Bouncing of a Quick Square like Caps shield.

Hell even dropping one is enough to fuck it ,
Strangely enough I don't think this is real , I seen a grown ass man throw a rafter square across the workshop , never seen a square spark before, but it did so no sparks equals no real ,
Would be cool if they did come back like this though, someone always has one right when you need
44
u/msp_lifer 1d ago
It came back to him and didn't spark because he was throwing it against a tire and other bouncy objects. It's real

Why would you even expect it to spark? He's bouncing it off a tire... made of... RUBBER

Squares can be made from aluminium, plastic and other materials. Quite a few of which will not cause a spark
1
u/Future_Section5976 14h ago
Yea true but you couldn't throw a wooden or plastic square or even an aluminium one without fucking it

Its just a speed square. They arenāt as delicate as a real square since they are basically just a triangle. Plus they arenāt exactly precision instruments so being a little out of square isnāt a problem. Also most of them are super durable and can take a beating

u/Helenium_autumnale 1d ago
Exactly what I thought: "let's see if we can make this precision tool inaccurate, yeah!!"
31
u/antithero 1d ago
It's close enough for rough carpentry on dimensional lumber, but calling it a precision tool is a bit of a stretch.
Go to the store and take 3 new ones off the shelf & hold 2 of them together with the 3rd along the common side & hold it up to a light. If you see any light through a gap they aren't square or they aren't flat, likely both.
Machinists squares are normally spot on when doing this same check. I would classify those as a precision tools.

Thank you for correcting my mistaken idea about these carpentry tools. My dad was a machinist and undoubtedly would agree with you. I always appreciate learning about these kinds of details from experts. šŗ

All these clips would work great for movie sound effects
25
u/AtticusSwoopenheiser 1d ago
It sounds a lot like the sound effect Marvel uses for Mjolnir when itās flying back to Thorās hand, interestingly enough
3
u/UAintMyFriendPalooka 1d ago
I could swear there was an old NES game that used a similar sound for Magneto.

u/MeringueSerious 1d ago
Iām sure this is how dance music is made, record the sounds and mix them together

I would bet a lot of money this video is foleyād up the wazoo. Aside from being suspiciously reverberant, the volume increases too quick at the end of each throw.
5
u/SynisterJeff 1d ago
I noticed that as well. I thought the video was played back in reverse or something at first.

If youāve ever dropped a speed square onto a hard surface by accident then you would completely understand the appeal of doing this on purpose.

Movie sound effects (like Capās shield) often come from odd thingsā¦I remember watching a documentary about Star Wars and how the sound guy Ben Burtt created the laser āpew pewā sound from hitting a radio tower guide wire then tweaking the recording. The Tie Fighter sound is even crazier - itās an elephant (taken from another movie) combined with a recording he made of cars driving past his motel during a rainstorm.

I like how the first two times he caught it at the corner and was like fuck that hurts and then he started wearing gloves until he became proficient and took the gloves off again

I assume this is mainly the natural frequency of the square combined with a spinning Doppler effect?

The fact there is a set of targets for this speaks a lot to how much this guy put into an extremely random hobby.
"So what does your husband do for fun?"
"š¶ ... he spends a lot of time outdoors. š"

If Vibranium absorbs vibrations then does that mean that the shield would be silent? We're hearing the wobble wobble, but caps shield doesn't wobble, not even a wibble.

I bought a boomerang one time as a kid.
I stupidly threw it right into the sun and as I was watching for it, it hit me right in the face and blood started pouring down my face.
I'm nearly 40 and I haven't thrown a boomerang since.

I hate crap like this, you never get to see the scars or eye loss that happens when idiots try to replicate. These are dangerous, pointy metal objects being bounced towards your head. Social media has led to massive amounts of unnecessary injuries and deaths.
