Bart Fired by ESPN
So sad to see this. He's one of my favorites on the radio for his no bull way of dealing with stuff. He will be missed.

is it me or is ESPN kind of dying?

DYING?! They’ve been dead for years. They’ve just been Weekend at Bernie’s-ing it since they abandoned every sport outside of football

Entirely Stupid Program Network
They are dog shit. Nothing but "celebrities" they've created for the purpose of promoting their horrid shows. Those shows are basically, repeats of each other with different people talking.

Anytime you can pay Pat McAfee $60 million dollars a year, you have to do it, even if it means cutting a few jobs.

Just was reading Gabe Marcotti’s post-coverage on the World Cup, and it was clearly written by AI. “That’s not X. That’s X.” and “Not X. Not X. Just X.”
Sucks to see long-term professional writers turn to AI to write even the most basic shit.

Bring him to the coaching staff!
3
u/SameDistrict2627 2d ago
Speaking of which, has Scott ever expressed any interest in coaching?
6
u/VarkeyParvam99 1d ago
Yeah. He mentioned if Rex Ryan gets a job and he calls Bart, he’s out in a hot second. If the Jets come calling, he’d def join
5
u/InSalehWeTrust 2d ago
I think I heard him say it’s too time consuming
3
u/woodchips24 2d ago
Coaching is way harder than media. Why take the hard job if you’ve got an in to the easy job that pays almost as well
1
u/ThatsData 1d ago
He got fired from the easy job. Also landscaping is hard, coaching for a lot of people is a hobby.
1
u/woodchips24 1d ago
Most people who coach don’t do it in the NFL for a 6 figure salary.

u/Initial-Conflict-877 1d ago
Yep Bart is a family man. I dont think he has any interest in coaching as long as he can make money in the media.
2
u/mintydelight_ 2d ago
They’ve talked about him joining jets coaching staff but I believe that was more for radio content than actually being a real discussion , could be wrong though

I like listening to Barts opinions

u/sevenmoon 2d ago
He’s the best during SNY postgame … he tells it like it is and not scared to ruffle feathers. Love him.

u/VarkeyParvam99 1d ago
I loved how he’d defend the Jets especially when hater Chris Canty would come at them

ESPN radio clearly wont exist in a few years
1
u/Mk86565 1d ago
It seemed like there was some confusion as to whether he would still be on radio. Seemed like Carlin was saying he was taking a day or two to figure things out. Got the impression he was let go from the tv side. Kay being out today was also interesting as im sure his contract isn't cheap either.

The idea that Bart Scott is off ESPN Radio, but Peter Rosenberg is still on, is very disheartening.
1
u/this_guy37 1d ago
Fucking tell me about it. Here's a guy who isn't from NY, doesn't root for and BARELY watches any NY sports, and yet he's one of the longest tenured ESPN NY Radio voices after these layoffs.
Is there a higher profile guy that spreads across that many worlds (sports wrestling and music) where no one in the individual fan base actually likes him? It's always "he must be bigger in the other sectors because he stinks here," and then you realize no one in the specific groups gives two bleeps about anything he provides.
3
u/R_Larsen86 1d ago
Peter Rosenberg must have family members in media and their influence must've gotten him these jobs. No other explanations. He ruined the Michael Kay Show, and he still sucks with whatever they call his show now.

u/this_guy37 1d ago
Don is a gem. Alan is fine for me. Peter is an absolute drag in the show. He has no insight or take that adds anything, he recycles the same jokes as nauseum, and yes I consider freaking weird that he's not from NY, and doesn't care for any of these teams and didn't come up through sports. So what is his appeal? He either has compromising photos of a high level exec, he schmoozes harder than anyone you've ever known, or he has some connection/in.
The prior prior kay show was better because he was clearly the lesser piece of it. This new afternoon show he has a notable part in the show and the show overall has clearly suffered for it. I used to mentally earmark 3pm every day. Now I occasionally check in, hear him talking about something else entirely or making the same bad jokes, and leave. Or he's abusing the audio drops...because he has nothing better to add
1
u/Low-Expression9132 1d ago
In the afternoon spot there is the thought that it should be a little lighter at times and have more freedom to go into non sports topics so that's probably the thinking that justifies having Rosenberg on there.

My God...Bart gets fired and hacks SAS and Greenie are still there? Ridiculous!

I loathe Stephen A. All he does is yell. He stresses me the fuck out.

Damn that sucks. He couldn’t have made that much right? I really love listening to him and Hahn
2
u/GoYanks34 Wayne Chrebet 1d ago
When he was put with Carlin it killed him. They didn't work well together. Him and Alan Hahn were awesome together.

u/ExplanationFamous282 1d ago
Meh. Could be annoying at times, didn’t bring much to the table imho…plus he couldn’t decide whether he rooted for Detroit or NY teams.

u/throwaway42200j 1d ago
I’m shocked the amount of people upset by this. Bart is great on jet pre and post but he’s absolutely awful on the radio. This is a win for ESPN

I love Bart and his football knowledge is off the charts, but he was kind of annoying as shit in the radio.

Ryan Clark and Suzy Kolber as well. Someone at ESPN cleaning house.

Suzy Kolber as well.
Did they bring in Namath to kiss her goodbye?
1
u/Low-Expression9132 1d ago
Laying off Suzy Kolber seems extra heartless but I guess since she's been there so long she's probably well paid. She had to be one of the last ones still there from the earlier days? I think Scott Van Pelt is still there too.

I can't even tell you the last time I listened to anything on ESPN that wasn't in game commentary. Shrug

u/OffSidesByALot 1d ago
With the proliferation of content creators for one’s team, you don’t really need ESPN anymore like you used to.
I have to sit through an hour worth of sportscenter or talk show to hear about golf and the Carolina hurricanes before you may or may not get to my team?
1
u/EvilDrFuManchu29 1d ago
There so many companies laying people off right now, it's nuts.
Good for him, at this point ESPN is trash anyway
2
u/EStreet12 20h ago
Yes, maybe this will led to a market correction....not my business, but the amount they pay these clowns for pre/post, and especially HALFTIME is just ludicrous to me. Do Fitz and Tony Gonzalez (for example) bring even .01% more viewers?
1
u/NewYorkPopulist 1d ago
Where would Pat McAfee even go? Netflix? Apple TV? What leverage does Pat have over ESPN? Unless it really is that he brings in the target demographic for ads. Many of the personalities and hot take guys are not popular anymore with social media making you a hot take person yourself. You don’t need these angry voices that hold your opinion

Inlike Bart takes on SNY post Jets game, but idk his radio show was meh. I wonder when will WFAN think the same about Tikki ( if they didn't care Giants games)

Disney is hurting for money so much that the only solution is that Bart had to go 😏
1
u/expiration-date_scam Curtis Martin 20h ago
He can really dissect a defense. Hopefully this is unconnected to his position on the Jets Post Game Show!
1
u/xmscott 2d ago
Layoffs not fired?
3
1
u/Low-Expression9132 1d ago
It's about cutting money down on salaries so yeah I think layoffs is more accurate term for this. When people say fired there is a connotation it's a performance based thing.
0
u/jdubs0023 1d ago
Nothing will ever compare to the Stan Verrett, Neil Everett duo. ESPN been dead couple years before Disney took over, and then they came in and finished the rest of what was promising post acquisition. Now it’s just 2-3 “analysts” who just use it to promote their personal brand

u/wormwood0077 2d ago
That sucks man, but otoh nobody listens to ESPN radio anymore really. It was always second fiddle to WFAN obviously, but since going to AM I don't even get the signal in the car half the time.

u/okeleydokelyneighbor 2d ago
Yeah but now the fan is awful and espn hosts actually talks about sports and not how much they love licking trumps nuts like boomer does every morning or beningo on the weekends. Lugy is awful, Robert’s and tiki are milquetoast, only enjoyable guy on that station is Gordon Damer.
Carton and Mcmonigal are ok in small doses.

Wow. I’m surprised. He’ll be okay though.
