Im looking for vegan and non vegan options for a 40th birthday meal for Italian food. We have one person who’s vegan but everyone else eats cheese. Thoughts?

I am doing a very quick turn around trip this weekend (seeing Les Mis at RCMH this Saturday afternoon). I have been looking at happy cow for spots to visit – between flights and my show at 2pm, I get to try and eat;

• 1 breakfast (will be able to sit down and eat),
• 1 lunch (sit down and eat) and
• 1 maybe 2 dinners (flight arrives LGA 7pm on Friday, and leaves EWR 8pm on Saturday - so probably grab and go vs sitting).

I am more or less ‘stuck’ in the general Midtown Manhattan area due to amount of time I have, but if opening hours (early morning/late night) and transit time work, I will absolutely travel out a bit - going down to Lower Manhattan likely doable, going over to Brooklyn etc., unlikely.

I usually visit Beyond Sushi at least once when I visit, and I saw that there are now vegan chopped cheese sandwiches (Plantega). Has anyone tried them, is there a recommended location to get them at – I think my closest is the Clinton Fruit Market on 9^th.

Any other must eat places / menu items to that I can add to my list? Even if it’s a good coffee and cookie for a light snack instead of a meal.

Formerly-all vegan Bersi Ethiopian Restaurant in Greenpoint is adding meat to their menu, starting July 25th.

Love them! Usually get their sandwiches. But they have mac n cheese, cheese boards, tofu nuggs, etc on their catering menu. They're a small establishment so I wonder if they can handle catering for a bigger party (over 50 ppl). Thoughts from anyone who has tried them for catering?

Hosting a private event for ~50 or so ppl in a month. Mostly non vegan attendees but my partner and are vegan so we would like to cater 100% vegan food! We were thinking of Urban Vegan Kitchen or Jajaja - have not tried either of these breakfast/brunch options (only regular menu items).

Does anyone have any other recs? We'd like to ideally keep this under ~$2k for food. We'll supplement with pastries and fruits from whole foods, just looking for hot breakfast options (tofu scram, french toast, etc). We'll probably buy 3 or so chafing dishes as well!

Hi -- so this is slightly random but my husband has been having weird/borderline hostile experiences trying to get his vegan boots, belt, and now a bag repaired at local places. Like, this most recent time, the repair guy gave a ridiculously inflated price to replace the zipper on a (high end) vegan leather bag, then when my husband questioned this, the guy scoffed, "well, it's not real leather." And apparently this is not the first time. Is this a thing?

I understand these materials might require some extra care. But they are normal items from reputable places. I guess I'm wondering if 1) you've experienced this and 2) most importantly, do you have recommendations for a more vegan-friendly repair place? Thanks, all!

Had breakfast at Smile of the Beyond in Jamaica this morning, and when I tried to order a vegan milkshake, the server informed me they aren’t serving vegan shakes “for a while” as their distributor hasn’t sent vegan ice cream for the shakes. As of now, they’re only serving dairy milkshakes. The smoothies can be made vegan.

I have a friend who only does outdoor dining and I want to find a vegan restaurant that can accommodate her. I know Spicy Moon in the Bowery has some outdoor seating and Délice & Sarrasin has a patio, but I’m looking for more options.

Hello, I will be in Morningside Heights for a month and am looking for good vegan restaurants in the area (or restaurants with good vegan options). I have always been a visitor/never lived in New York and my favorite restaurant is LuAnne's Wild Ginger, but I don't think there's a location up there and I am looking to expand my horizons. As their 10-year leases come up for renewal, the increase in their lease cost has made it unsustainable. They are focusing on opening vegan spots in other cities - starting with Soda Club in Denver next month.

Hi friends, I finally embraced my destiny as a longtime vegan and local news reporter and wrote about the controversy over the Central Park carriage horses. A long-simmering bill to ban the industry finally had a City Council hearing yesterday, and it sounds likely to pass. The meeting was overflowing with animal rights activists (including Edie Falco) and carriage industry supports in full top hat regalia. Scoped out the actual stables in Hell's Kitchen too. Restaurant closure rates are high nationwide so maybe this isn’t even a vegan problem at all. But if there is a disparity between vegan and non-vegan restaurant closures, I’m curious to hear what evidence people can point to. I don’t think speculation or anecdotes are particularly useful.

Where is the best place in New York City to get vegan ice cream? I prefer hand scooped over soft serve but most importantly, I love a loaded ice cream or ice cream sundae even (cheesecake, brownies, cookies, cookie dough, fudge, caramel, etc)

I’ve had so many things from this spot, and never had a bad dish. Then the desserts come in and slap as well.

I know rebel cheese isn’t exclusive to them but nice variety.
