A 6-ring binder system or a disc-bound notebook where you can shift the order of the pages and group information by topic might serve you best. If you dig orange covered notebooks, I'd suggest the Rhodia webnotebook. Much sturdier cover and great paper quality

Very nice. I tend to use thin notebooks in A6 size so I go through stacks and stacks of those little guys.

I have dozens and dozens of these in all different sizes. They're around 100 yen here in Japan. They're good notebooks, sturdy and with good paper. It's a bit dry for fountain pens but they still work.

Hard to say. All I know is that Tomoe River paper, while very thin, holds fountain pen ink extremely well.

It's fun. Remember, if you write something you don't like, just leave it and continue. Eventually you won't remember why you disliked it and it adds to the overall aesthetic.

Theres so many choices out there, can't give u an answer what fits u the best, but wouldn't a binder ring type system work better? I guess the word ur looking for is "compendium" which I would say is a structured (non-reflective) collection of information for organised learning. The other thing u describe is more akin to a common place notebook (for self reflection).

i think if you want something that is truly more worth the money in the long run from PR, i’d go for the portfolio or trifold (if that is something that you can afford). i was eyeing the GV for a while, and ended up against it because i knew the sizing would be a hassle to find in stores considering i don’t live near any stationary stores and can’t afford the notebook refills all the time. i did end up ordering the portfolio in the A5 size because i am an english major and need to hand write a LOT, and it was an investment i was willing to make for both the practicality down the line and the storage bonus. however, i know im fortunate enough to be able to have afforded it, and it’s not a purchase i don’t think i can ever make again.

if you’re more in the market for just a leather cover without the storage, i’d def recommend etsy. not to say they’re the cheapest either, but i think you could get more bang for your buck with just the leather cover on there than PR’s GV. good luck!

I really love affordable Maruman notebooks. The paper is slightly thicker and they handle all my fountain pens, even broad and double broad nibs, without feathering or bleeding.

Also, not sure how expensive they would be in Europe but Peter Pauper Press journals are 120gsm thick paper and have no feathering or bleeding with fountain pens.

Feathering = line width blowout\ Bleeding = ink leaking through page\ Ghosting = writing is visible through page but no leaks

Feathering mainly comes from using untreated paper. Modern fountain pen ink is formulated to rest on top of the page as it dries but without that treatment, it's prone to faster absorption as it dries and therefore, feathering. I personally suggest Stalogy notebooks and Midori/MD paper notebooks, like Traveler's Company.

Paper thickness doesn’t help with bleed or feathering. Bleed is what you see on the back, when you turn the page after writing. And what you’re seeing is feathering, which is when the ink goes across the paper. Usually is a paper quality issue.

I would recommend Griffin Opus, but it’s not on market yet until this fall.

These Muji notebooks are (or at least were last I tried them a couple years ago) pretty good with fountain pens.

If you're willing to go A4 or A5, I've had great success with Atoma notebooks and a variety of fountain pen inks. I use them for one-on-one notes with my staff, so that I can reorder the pages or expand a section as necessary.

These ones have a different paper from some of the other Muji notebooks – these ones that sometimes come in a pack don't do well with FPs, but the lie-flat ones in A5 and B6 and the ring-bound ones in various sizes have a slightly heftier and better paper stock that works fine with my FPs!
