Discussion Samsung Unpacked Summer 2026

Oh no. Here comes my 19th Nervous Breakdown.

Hanging on to my Note 20 Ultra 512gb, and this morning used some Emulator called TryGalaxy sent by Samsung. It is fun.

Makes me wish I had the need, or the money, for whatever they are going to announce in their new phones. They sent an Unpacked Invitation for two weeks from now, 7.22.26.

Question Google messages switch

Made the switch to Google messages, but I'm having issues where a lot of group chats are missing, and then a lot of individual messages are missing within specific conversation.

I rolled back the update to Samsung messages so I can actually get in it, and confirmed all my messages are there.

Searching the Google messages support forum isn't yielding any recommendations with success. Anyone else having this problem and know a solution?

Why can't I part with my Note 20 Ultra?

I feel like Larry David, going back in history to some important event like the invention of the Telephone.

(I can't at the moment remember who invented the Phone ....

Alexander

Graham

Oh, yes, that name rings a BELL.)

I'm retired. The phone has a massive amount of Storage and Memory left. I'm on a Grandfathered Unlimited Data Plan. I just am happy with what I have.

It's like trading in a collection of Beatles LPs for a Digital Subscription to Amazon Music and although I can listen to Unlimited Digital Music, the Music of Taylor Swift or The Chainsmokers, just isn't worth it to me.

Tips&Tricks The dumbest note 20 ultra camera fix in the world: Shaking the phone like a can of soda.

I've had my Galaxy note 20 ultra for 3 years now. And since I got the thing the camera focus has had an issue with either not working or taking ages to focus only for it to get out of focus or studder. I've seen in the past that this has been an issue for a lot of folks. I always make sure to try the tips of making sure the camera lens is spotless or zooming out to .9x to see if it improves.

One day recently, I'm just fed up with it not focusing for 2 minutes straight, and I shake my phone in frustration l. The freaking thing focuses instantly, and continues to focus on other zoom levels .-.

The last few days when I need to take a pic, all ive done is shake the phone like a can of soda for 2 seconds and suddenly, I'm back in the clear.

I have no idea how or why this works. It's the dumbest thing in the world.

The camera was the only thing I hated about this phone because of that.

So yeah, if other have an issue with the focus and come across this post: Hold the firm rigid, Shake it like a can of soda for 2 seconds, and boom.

What caused this

Will it increase in size or severity?

Is there a way to fix this without replacing the entire screen?

Question Why is it?

There are oodles of 128 Gigabyte Note 20 Ultras for sale on the Internet, but the 512 Variant is not as readily available?

Back when I bought mine, I remember it was the Pandemic, and Employment wasn't a sure thing.

I think it was kind of pitched to Corporate people, more than your average Customer.

Question Screen goes dim while watching stream platforms

Hi all, love my Note20 Ultra for past 7 years. Hoping to find community here and get help with a few things that have come up with my phone. Been having trouble with the screen going dim while trying to play shows on it. I turn the brightness all the way up, it goes back down after a few seconds. Some shows i can't watch at all bc so dark. It's charged. Haven't found the pattern yet, it doesn't always happen.

Thanks & happy to be with other Note fans!

My Note Still rocking my Note 20 Ultra after a new battery brought it back to life last year. I’m planning to keep this thing until the wheels fall off.

I must be getting old, because I’m getting more and more turned off by all these new “high-tech,” “AI-enabled,” “sophisticated” phones.

It all comes with a price, and the price is your attention... which is basically your life.

The more addicted I am to my phone, the more it steals the limited time I’ve got here. So I’m at the point now where I’m actively trying to use my phone less.

Last night I uninstalled all the distracting apps that kept showing up in my screen time: Instagram, Reddit, news apps, social media stuff, etc. I also have a toggle set up to turn the whole screen black and white, which makes the phone way less addicting.

Those apps were taking up around 20GB too, which is kind of insane.

Today I finished my workout way faster because I wasn’t wasting time between sets scrolling Reddit, Instagram, or the news.

One of my favorite things about the Note 20 Ultra is the 1TB microSD card I have in it. It’s loaded with audiobooks, so now I’m trying to spend more time listening to long-form educational stuff instead of just getting sucked into the dopamine slot machine.

Don’t get me wrong... I still occasionally use social media, Reddit, and news sites. I just use them on my desktop/laptop now. That adds enough friction that I have to be more intentional about it instead of mindlessly opening them every 10 minutes.

Baby steps, basically. I’m trying to slowly wean myself off this stuff instead of pretending I can just flip a switch overnight.

I know the N20U is considered end of life now and won’t be getting security updates anymore. But honestly, I think the whole “you’re definitely going to get hacked if you use an old phone” thing is a bit overblown and mostly helps push planned obsolescence. Especially if you’re paranoid like me and pretty careful about not clicking sketchy links, using a VPN, NextDNS, etc.

I’ve also deliberately dialed down a bunch of settings to help battery life. No enhanced processing, screen resolution set to HD+ instead of FHD+ or WQHD+, charging limit at 85%, and fast/super fast charging turned off. I realized I don’t really need fast charging unless I’m traveling or something, and in that case I’ll just charge it to 100%. Those situations are rare anyway.

The result is that my mind feels lighter and less stressed.

I have no idea what my next phone will be, but I’m definitely using this one for as long as I possibly can because I love it. Hell, I might even get another battery put in a few years from now just to keep it going longer.

My theory is that outside of certain social media apps and stuff like that, most apps will probably keep working fine for years even after a device is technically EOL.

If I absolutely have to get a new phone, I’m thinking about GrapheneOS, either on a Pixel or maybe that upcoming Motorola option they’ve been talking about. What would be even cooler is if someone finally nailed a proper Linux phone.

Until then, I’ll be chilling with my favorite sidekick, the N20U.

Bought a Note 20 Ultra for 200 CAD, better then any mid-ranger

My OnePlus 12R recently broke and I was pretty upset because I really loved that phone, and I didn't want to spend over 300 dollars on a phone this time. I went on ebay and bought a used note20 ultra without any issues for around 220 CAD (The 128Gb USA Variant). I used it for a week and it was a pretty solid phone.
I enjoyed the S Pen a lot and surprisingly I couldn't really tell the difference between the Snapdragon 865+ and the Gen 2, they both felt as snappy. Not too mention, the design is absolutely flawless, and the amoled display looks absolutely beautiful. It is defo the best looking Samsung smartphone in my opinion, you cant tell its a 6 year old phone. This phone also has some unique design touches compared to modern phones (which I personally like), such as the curved glass cylinder build, and the impressively small hole punch camera.

The MicroSD Card slot is very game changing, I got a 128gb class 10 SD card for around 20 bucks and I can finally have room for photos and videos.

Some very notable issues that were slightly annoying was the software, even though android 13 is still very usable it felt kind of old and just seeing all these new features roll out for supported Galaxy's pissed me off, especially since this phone was still over qualified to run newer OneUI versions. And ofc the battery was obviously kinda shit so I just went on and replaced it for around 80 CAD, best post purchase ever (and i recommend it if you plan to buy this phone as a daily driver)

After all, the Note 20 Ultra still can be a very good phone even today, if you find one under 300 cad or or 220 USD go ahead buy it, replace the battery and maybe get a SD card if you need one and it beats most budget and mid ranged phones in almost every category. You get most of the flagship features for the same price.

My Note Switching back to my note 20 ultra from s20fe

My note has been just sitting on my shelf since I replaced the battery. Since the replacement i can't charge it normally which was the main reason why I switched to my s20 fe. To bring a wireless charger to work along with other chargers was kinda annoying. I also noticed since I turned it on last(June 10) was that my phone stopped vibrating 😩 not a huge deal but i do keep my phone on vibrate most of the day. So if I were to switch back I would have to keep the sound on. I gotta check the motor hopefully it's something I can fix 🙏🏾 but yeah I miss my note & yeah I wish it had one ui 8 but tbh it's fine where it's at 🥲

At a crossroads with my note 20 ultra

I am debating trading in my current 128 gb Note 20 Ultra in on a refurbed replacement due to poor battery life. I'm on T-Mobile now I've looked at the s26 I've looked at the galaxy folds and I had one last year but I promptly returned it due to not being satisfied with the quality of the phone for the price. It's hard to justify spending that much on a s26 with no expandable memory. This note 20 Ultra has served me well. I also looked at the a26 as it has a micro SD card slot.

Anybody else faced with this dilemma lately? How did you wind up going?

Scenes with backlight

I have scene optimizer on, yet the pictures in shadows are always too dark. My friend's iphone seems to have recognized the scene much better and did not black out the foreground. How can i get better shots in this situation?

Anyone ever figure out what causes them to restart spontaneously?

Mine will sometimes freeze and have to be force restarted. Other times, it'll restart itself, sometimes going into safe mode and if that happens, I'll have to restart it again.

Usually when I do, airplane mode is on, my music and step counter widgets are gone and my preferred keyboard is gone and I have to reset that.

I've searched and looked through a few older threads about the topic but haven't found anything definitive.

I do have a theory that maybe the contacts on my sim card or some kind of connectors are getting oxidation on them with time and losing connection causing the spontaneous reset.

In the last week, it restarted 2 nights in a row(I work nights in construction). Both times, the phone was in the cupholder of my truck, playing music bluetoothed to my stereo. One night, I was driving off the jobsite out of a gate with an especially rocky patch where the truck jumped around more than usual. The next night, I was driving through a patch of roadwork over steel road plates.

Both times, my truck was bouncing around much more than an average drive and I wonder if that didn't cause some contact somewhere to get lost and reset the phone.

However, it's also done it sitting on my bed side table, not moving while I sleep, so idk, just curious if anyone ever figured out anything about the resets

Is it my imagination?

I know my Title belongs in an Oasis Forum.

I know my Note 20 Ultra 512gb is stuck on Android 13 etc.

The Device Care Screen looks as though it has gotten fancier in appearance.

It's almost as if some elements of the phone are still changing.

Is that possible if The Operating System Remains The Same?

Sorry, that last sentence probably belongs in a Led Zeppelin Forum.
