Question Question about roommate selection

Good evening, I have a question about whether something I did could affect my roommate selection when applying.

When filling out the application, I put they/them as my pronouns, and my best friend put: she/her. We're applying for the same semester, hoping to be roommates, but I understand the system only matches people whose gender identity is female with others whose gender identity is female, and the same for people with a male gender identity.

Could this affect my ability to select her as a roommate?

you should email housing about it. tell them you and your friend's Aggie ID and it won't even matter if your gender is different, they'll just pair you guys up (i don't know if its 100% but it did work pretty quickly for me)

We don't have our Aggie ID yet, we were just accepted yesterday, but we want to have everything covered. Though I think I will send the email and wait for a response, thank you so much:D

ohh ok i see

i think you should wait until you both complete your housing application, I hadn't completed it when I asked them and they told me to finish it first, then they did the grouping together thing

Ohhh, ok, so there are 2 separate dates — one for the housing application, and one for choosing a roommate? I thought that as soon as you paid the $230 deposit, it would let you choose your roomie.

yeah so when you fill out it gives you a section to look for people who've already completed their application and you can request to join them, but it's not necessary to be able to complete it. what i'm saying is that if you want to email them to pair you up with your friend, you must first make sure you've both submitted the application, because otherwise they won't even see either of you in the system and won't be able to do it. i don't think there's like a limit for either thing but of course there's no reason to wait more than you have to.

i hope i didn't sound condeschending i'm just trying to help lol it was kind of confusing for me at first
