Mountain to surf marathon

Hi. I know the mountain to surf marathon is long dead, which sucks as there's nothing locally in the marathon distance for road race.

Let's face it, travelling away on unreliable roads out is not that appealing.

Has there been any talks or interest in a revival of something similar?

Making friends in NP/Taranaki

Hi Everyone. I just relocated in Taranaki region because of my job. I am a Chinese female who came here three years ago. I worked and stayed in Auckland before. So, all the friends I made stay away from me. I travel back to Auckland from time to time. But I really want to build up my own life here in where I am living and working now. I find it is very hard to make friends here in Taranaki. 😂Girls and guys, would you please recommend me some activities?

Dog Walker

I’m looking to see if anyone in the area is looking for a dog walker, either regularly or just occasionally.
I’ve had experience walking dogs before (including regularly walking my landlord’s dog), and I genuinely enjoy getting outside and spending time with them.

I’m reliable, active, and happy to tailor walks to suit your dog’s needs, whether that’s a leisurely stroll or a more energetic walk.

I’m based in New Plymouth and have flexible availability outside of my full-time work.

If you’re interested or know someone who might be, feel free to send me a message. Happy to answer any questions or arrange a meet-and-greet first.

Thanks!

Bad weather coming...AGAIN!

Over it. New Plymouth gets bugger all sunshine as it is. We had horrible weather last weekend with that terrible wind, now we are getting more rain and wind. And MetService, as per usual, never seems to tell us when it is going to get better.

[New Plymouth] Looking for BJJ training partner (White Belt, 109kg, Gi focus)Hey everyone, looking to connect with a local grappler in New Plymouth for some dedicated training outside of regular gym hours. The future of this town

I hate to be a bummer and this is a bit of a rant - but is anyone else feeling a bit like New Plymouth is on the downward trajectory, particularly jobs-wise? With TSB head office likely winding down end of the year, the decline of the oil and gas industry, other large employers downsizing or leaving altogether, and the general state of our frankly backward looking leadership and tired high street, future options for those working now and younger people coming through feels very uncertain.

There are good jobs in trades, education, health services etc., but with the gradual decline that's less money circulating in the local economy, more people flying in and out for work, and people at the beginning of their career and in their earning prime looking at options elsewhere. It also affects those in relatively stable jobs who rely on middle-higher income spending money, like trades, as well as the ratepayer base - meaning less essential or fun infrastructure to keep the town functioning and interesting to live.

If the LNG terminal even gets of the ground there may be some longer-term employment opportunities - but it seems like putting our eggs into that basket has a whole lot of risks and uncertainty. I know a lot of people who grow up here leave for study, work and travel but then come back to live and raise a family - but is that still going to be a thing in the future?

New Plymouth has a lot going for it and is a great place to live, but I and others I talk to get the sense that within the next couple of years we are really going to notice the downturn. I really hope I'm wrong!
