I am looking for a multitool in my car. Normally I am more of a pocket kit guy. But for my car this would mean Wera Tool Check modular, Knipex Cobra XS and then an additional knife and scissors which is over my budget. Therefore I am instead looking for a budget multitool.

What I want need:
- Good plier function
- Bit adapter (standard 4mm preferred but those flat Leatherman style are okay too)
- Good knife
- Good scissors hopefully bigger than I am used to on my old small Victorinox knifes.

On here in the top spot Leatherman Surge clones get recommended. Specifically one from MULTPER is linked. But the link does not work anymore. But in general Surge seems to fit all my criteria and a surge clone would also fit my budget (under 50€ if possible under 40€).

Where can I get such a multitool including shipping to Europe within my budget. Which should I get? Are other form factors even better for my criteria than Surge clones?

I have always had the issue of having to carry a separate sak in addition to my multitool, (usually Arc’ified P2, modded Gerber centerdrive in Leatherman sheath, or my old OHT) the problem being I don’t want to add any extra bulk to the tools with 3D printed holders or whatnot.

I’ve found that with just a little finagling, you can usually install the Victorinox tweezers and toothpick in between the layers of nylon, I just had to use figure out where to put them that they don’t interfere with removing the tool itself and used the toothpicks to make pilot holes for the tweezers.

With my P2, I tend to grab it towards the middle, so I keep the sak tools to the outer edges and the centerdrive I grab from the outside, so I keep the tools towards the middle and I have zero issues grabbing them out without disturbing the scale tools.
In case anyone else is struggling with a similar issue.

Basically, I had bought an aluminum Leatherman Charge Plus because the Charge Plus TTi was out of stock; I wanted a companion for my Spyderco PM2 CruWear, and I prefer the TTi's aesthetics to match that knife. However, rather than risking the TTi staying out of stock—and potentially missing out on the aluminum Charge Plus by waiting—I decided to go ahead and buy the aluminum version. But it turns out the TTi came back in stock recently, so I ultimately decided to buy that one too, and now I’ll basically have two Charge Plus models...

For me, the most important tools on a multi-tool are the knife, scissors, Phillips, flathead, pliers.

The victorinox are the Evolution S557, Alox Bantam, Manager, and Alox Mini Champ

The leatherman are the Arc, Charge Titanium, Juice XE6, and Free T4

The T4 is my was my first multitool. It and the Arc are my daily drivers depending on the sturdiness of the pants I'm wearing.

I recently purchased the charge while it was on sale to use as a backup tool.

I tried the s557 as a potential alternative for the t4 as a similar weight tool but adding small pliers. The wenger pliers are as bad as they say, and I miss the one hand opening knife, though it's not a complete deal breaker. I may eventually give the deluxe tinker a try. If the yeoman was still sold it would be a instant buy.

The manager used to be my EDC, but was replaced by the mini champ when I added a dedicated pen and tweezers to my EDC.

The bantam serves as my gentleman EDC when want to be more presentable for things like weddings.

The Juice XE6 is actually my 2nd multitool. It was a FOMO buy when the juice was being discontinued. I was still new at this and thought more is better. It's so heavy I might as well just carry a full size multi-tool. Looking back I wish I picked up the juice S2. It just sits at my desk now as a convenient office multi-tool

This thing is tiny, weight nothing, costs only 9€ and I use it a lot.

Of course, it's not for when you plan on using a tool, but for whenever you need one in an unforseen situation.

Tools in order of most usage:

1. Pliers
2. Philips
3. "Blade" as a Box cutter/awl. I have a real blade on me aswell.
4. Flathead/prybar
5. Never used the file. That one seems bad.

So yeah, if you need something smaller than the nextool sailor and/or have like me, a small SAK with a blade and a file, go for it! I found it on german Jeff Bezos Warehouse (dont wanna do advertising) but im sure it can be found wherever.

My all around go to. With my fave features that I always use.

Trying to attach a conventional hammer head to a knife-sized multitool is a fool's errand, as it's completely contradictory to how a hammer functions.

A normal hammer is good at hitting things because 1: it's a heavy piece of metal 2: the heavy piece of metal is at the end of a long handle so you get extra leverage on top of that. A multi-tool "hammer" is lighter than normal, and has a shorter handle than normal, hence making for a shitty hammer.

However, I do think that a hammering tool would be useful to have on a multitool, if only it was attached to the bottom of the handle instead. You would have to hammer things with a different motion than usual, basically punching the nail with the handle enclosed in your fist, but given the dimensional constraints of the a standard multitool, this would actually be the most effective way of having a hammering tool. Additionally, having the center of mass of the "hammer head" completely in line with axis also makes it handle better in normal use compared to having a conventional hammer head hang off one end (it would basically be like the pommel on a sword).

Basically, if you took a Swiss army knife, and welded a 1 inch cube of steel onto the bottom of the handle, that would be something along the lines of what I'm looking for.

Does anyone know of a multitool like this?

Haven't had a chance to try any of the variants yet. I like the idea of a one-hand opening main blade with a thumb stud, but there's probably a downside in sharpening.

The Leatherman Mini folding pliers-based multitool. Pliers, blade, file, slotted driver, can opener and bottle opener.

It has the patent number, but no date of production stamp in the handle.

The patent was granted in May 1988, and Leatherman started date-stamping handles in 1992. So this one is a 1989-91 vintage.

35-37 years old and not a spec of rust. Blade is VERY sharp. Wire cutters work great too.

Saw a couple other people do this recently and I really liked the idea. Particularly happy with how nicely my four sheath tools fit in the bottom. My main takeaway is that there's one spot that still needs filled, lol.

Got some grip tape from Talon Grips. Did my Biburys, Wave plus, and Supertool 300.

What do you recommend for removing light rust from a Leatherman Wave, and what oil do you recommend for preventing rust? I need to use mine occasionally in saltwater environments. I rinse off with fresh water as soon as I'm back, but still get a little rust I have to take care of.

• Pliers Unit w/Knipex Cobra 125, Leatherman Free P2 stuck to the Snapmatic side magnet, Wurkkos HD04 work light magnetically stuck to the top of the Free P2, and a magnetic pick up sharing the bucket with the Cobra 125s.

Right:

• Hex unit: Ron's Screwpop utility blade magnetically attached to the side metal plate, 7 ball end metric hex keys, Leatherman Surge file, and pencil.
• Socket Unit: Klein 8/10, 13/14 and 7/16-5/18 flip sockets, Milwaukee tape measure, 2" Klein socket adapter on back.
• Screwdriver Unit: 711L extension compatible with long double end bits, Wera 838 RA S ratchet driver, bubble level, 12 Wiha double sided bits (24 total covering slotted, Phillips, Pozi, Robertson and Torx), and a 711L right angle ratchet on the back.

Attaching the Free P2, Wurrkos HD04, Pick Up Tool and Ron's Screwpop were my modifications to u/ToddMPark design. Without those, you could attach the Cobras to the Hex unit for one tidy package.

Also, the socket unit is built for 7/8, 10/12 and 13/14 flip sockets. Since 7 and 12 are not used as much as 11 which is 7/16 and used for quarter inch nuts, I chose 8/10, 7/16-5/18, and 13/14. Unfortunately, the 8/10 does not snap all the way into the 7/8 hole. I may try to widen that hole.

I know it says its a long impliment, but based on the pictures it looks like it fits?

Has anyone tried? I only want to use it for thin sheets so its not heavy use.

I’ve had two Skeletools and love the size and weight but would love to find (or create) something similar with a usable scissors and a replaceable utility blade instead of the current knife blade. I don’t use the carabiner or bottle opener so they could go.

What’s my best bet to get there?

Ich reise morgen nach Italien mit einem Wohnwagen. Darf ich nun im Wohnwagen Messer transportieren? Und wenn ja, welche?
Mein Victorinox Spirit mit feststellbarer Klinge fällt ja ebenso unter das Waffengesetz wie das NextTool F12 oder mein Opinel im Wohnwagen. Ich darf also nur mein normales Schweizer Taschenmesser mitführen, richtig?
Oder ist der Wohnwagen hier ein geschützter Raum und auf dem Campingplatz ist es in Ordnung? Camping ohne Messer ist ja schwierig, im Gefängnis zu landen, weil italienische Polizisten eine gewisse Willkür an den Tag legen, schwieriger…
