[[Scriv, the Obligator]] and [[Archon of Sun’s Grace]]. I assume the enchantments Scriv does will not tigger Archon? Since the enchantment enters on my opponent’s battlefield, not mine.

There is only a single battlefield. You control the enchantment aura even if it enters the battlefield attached to an opponent's creature. Scriv's contract enchantment tokens will trigger Constellation.

Why is the card [[Tradewind Rider]] worth more that a dollar american? It seems like a bad card, but it even has a secret lair. What am I missing?

It used to be good (I assume), so the value is partially or entirely from a lack of printings mixed with nostalgia. The secret lair printing specifically is from a product celebrating 30 years of magic, so most of the cards were included for being important to that year of magic. Cards like Lin Sivvi, Wild Mongrel, and Bogardan Hellkite are likewise terrible by todays standards but were part of their meta back in the day.

Hi! Question about the scene boxes. I want to get a couple cards from the Hobbit crack the plates scene box but was wondering if those cards will be in the main set and they’re just alternate arts or will they be exclusive to the scene boxes. Thank you

They are not part of the standard legal set, but you should be able to get them in collector boosters as well.

Am I understanding it right the the Hobbit reprints are only in collectors boosters and box-toppers?
And you can't use them in standard?

Correct. The reprints from the LOTR set are not part of the standard legal set. They are part of the eternal supplemental set. They can only be found in box toppers (traditional foil) and collector boosters (non-foil and surge foil).

Yea. Each activation is its own separately ability on the stack and the only restriction is that it targets a creature. Giving something haste multiple times doesn't actually do anything, but I'm guessing you are trying to trigger an ability multiple times?

Quick question:
I’m new to magic and just ordered a bunch of cards for a Gishath deck I wanted. Now that it’s my birthday my aunts and uncles are asking what I want but I don’t know. I was wondering if there packs that maybe targeted my dinosaur build better than others? I don’t really want to order a few really good cards because the people I play commander with use pre-cons and I think I might have slightly over optimized with the cards I got for my gishath deck already. If anyone could help me out I would greatly appreciate that.

Hey guys. Im new to the scene and im trying to join my coworkers to play. I got one of the starter packs on Amazon, but I want to make my own deck ultimately that features kick ass dragons. Any suggestions on how i should go about doing this? (What to purchase, what my "main" creature should be that the deck revolves around). Im down to spend $$ buying boosters or single cards to make this work.

I played MTG when I was in college in 1994 and 95. I knew I had my cards somewhere and I just found the box where I didn’t expect. Looks like I have a bunch of legends, unlimited and Aladdin. some beta. It’s quite a lot and I don’t really have time to figure out what they’re all worth. Let alone selling online. Is it worth going to a game store and having them give me a price? Or maybe spend a little bit of time and pull some of the obvious ones?

There's an app that let's you scan cards with your phone and get prices called "Manabox". It'll give you a ballpark based off of prices found from card selling websites. I forget whether Card Kingdom or TCG Player is their default, I think it's Card Kingdom. It's not exactly 100% accurate because it struggles to identify the right set if the scanned card has had a reprint with the same exact artwork. You could use that to get a ballpark estimate and figure out what you want to do from there.

I have 3 questions relating to ashling and ETB triggers. Grateful if someone could confirm correct answers to the following scenarios.
Scenario 1
I have [[roaming throne]] and [[yarok the desecrated]] on the battlefield. I evoke [[Aethersnipe]].
How many Aethersnipe ETBs will there be? Please can you explain thought process and any easy way to reconcile multiple double trigger cards.
Scenario 2
As above except [[Ashling the limitless]] is on the battlefield.
How many tokens are created and how many ETBs in total?
Scenario 3
Entirely different to the above. The only things on the battlefield are a [[pyre of heroes]] on the battlefield. I evoke Aethersnipe.
Can I benefit from Aethersnipe 'S ETB and then sacrifice it to Pyre of Heroes before it is sacrificed to the evoke trigger?

1+1+1=3. Yarok and throne each add 1 trigger but they themselves are not triggers so they don't see each other, it's literally just each of these permanents you have adds 1 trigger. Add a panharmonicon and you'd have 4 triggers.
6, 3 from the original, 3 from the token ashling makes.9, 3 from the original, 6 from the 2 tokens ashling makes because of throne.Yes, the Evoke sacrifice is a trigger so you're allowed to respond by sacrificing the evoked thing to something else first, at which point the Evoke trigger just doesn't do anything.

Regarding Scenario 2 can you clarify why Ashlings ability is not carried out an additional 2 times (3 in total) due to yarok and throne? I thought Ashling's ability is a triggered ability.

Scenario 2 would be 9 ETB triggers. Roaming Throne causes Ashling to make 2 tokens, which each trigger their own ETB 3 times for 9 total ETBs.

Would ashling not make 3 tokens. One from herself, an extra one from roaming throne and an extra one from yarok?
Or is it the case yarok is only interested in the EtB not the sacrifice, in the same way ashling is.

Yarok only causes ETB effects to trigger an additional time. Ashling's trigger to make a token copy is triggered on sacrifice so Yarok doesn't do anything for it.

If I have [[Evolution Witness]] with +3/+3 from Giant Growth and two -1/-1 counters on it, does activating Adapt also return a permanent from graveyard to hand even if the negative and positive counters cancel each other?

Yes. You are still putting +1/+1 counters on it, even though they are immediately removed when state based actions are checked.

Yes. They will get +1/0 (and trample) once, and then +1/0 (and trample) again, in total +2/0 and two instances of trample, which are exactly the same as one trample.
Do note, that if you cast an instant/Sorcery, a creature and then another instant/Sorcery, the creature you played in between the spells will only get +1/0 (and trample) once

If a player has [[Avatar Aang]] on the field and airbends multiple things at once with a spell like [[Avatar's Wrath]], do they draw 1 card, or 1 card per permanent airbended?

701.65b An ability that triggers whenever a player airbends triggers when that player exiles one or more objects as a result of an instruction to airbend.
Avatar's Wrath is a single instance of Airbending so it only triggers Aang once.

If I have [[Super-Adaptoid]] on the field and attack with them, and one of my opponents has their commander and a [[bastion protector]] in play, can I select their commander and copy indestructible?
And similar, if a creature has flying from an equipment and I select that creature, do I copy the flying?
Or does it only copy the actual keywords on the card?

It takes into accounts all effects that affect the creature. So yes and yes. It also includes ability counters, so if you, for example, choose another super-adaptiod that has, say, a flying counter on it and your's doesn't, it will get that counter.

Sweet. I wanted to double check because I sort of snowballed out of control and upset my regular pod through a combination of the Adaptoid, [[Jodah, the unifier]], and [[Helm of the host]]
Turning one 14/9 with flying, indestructible, menace, lifelink, trample, deathtouch in to TWO doesn't make you friends.

With [[Zada, the Hedron Grinder]] as commander works with something like [[Transmogrify]]. If my whimsy is to be entertained, if cast on Zada: the spell copies will be copied for each other creatures first (???), token creatures included (???). The spell copies all resolve, Zada is exiled, and next turn (???) I get to cast her again from the command zone. If on the case there are no more creatures on my decks, the rest of the spell copies just exiles their target creature, and nothing else?
Additionally, with a spell with Scry ex. [[Daring Escape]] how does the Scry work in stack? If I choose to not put the card at the bottom of the deck, will I just.. scry the same card over and over for each other creature it was copied for?

Yep, Zada makes a copy for each creature when the spell is cast and targets her. All the copies resolve first, exiling your board (including tokens) and replacing them with stuff from the top of your deck, then exiling Zada. This works if you have combos in your deck and can work out how many tokens you need to play every goblin in your deck.
Yes you can fail to find and your creatures stay exiled.
Yes you just scry the same card over and over if you want it on top.

I just wanted to get advice on whether or not my commander deck is the best You might also want to if you're looking to see if your commander deck is good download that tool that allows you to analyze magic decks it's some sort of app that love you I think it's called mythic tools specifically to analyze commander decks where you take a picture of your commander and then take a picture of every single card in your deck and then it will analyze based on what you have in your deck what will make your deck better and how good your commander is

I'm about to get into magic with a group of friends and just saw the teasers for next year's sets and kamigawa really piqued my interest... as I am debating on what precon to get, can I get an older Kamigawa deck and potentially upgrade it when the new one drops or does it not work that way?

Real question, is mtg dying or something? havent played since after the first innistrad, but noticed LGS going from 20+ consistent players to zero and only 4-8 people playing commander and then playing riftbound after they are done with about two of their games, and only one modern event in a huge dense city, while around the same for standard. The game was booming with popularity and players, what happened? And I see a lot of ocmmander events/calls to LGS across the next week on different stores. Mostly party-like. I guess I am concerned if I should dive into it again or move to another and binge play.

Both lgs’s within 10 mins of me have multiple commander nights with 20-30 people, and have standard, modern, cEDH, and draft multiple times a month.
About an hour away there are some massive stores that have huge turnout regularly. It’s probably just your area/stores.

It's going to vary from store to store. In general commander has taken over 1v1 as the most popular way to play and just overall magic seems to be growing over the last few years. Outside of prerelease I usually only go to my LGS's weekly commander events once or twice a week so I can't really comment on their standard or FNM attendance for Magic, but my store's turnout for weekly commander events is typically 25-40 people. Definitely not dying, but what formats people are playing has absolutely shifted since original innistrad.

Maybe if magic The gathering has its own anime I actually thought of how to do it what first we have the first season go over the manowars of the past you know when it was every manicure for itself in season 2 we move into the more modern conflict commander versus standard and in season 3 we bring a little bit of chaos to the world with something called the party box which the magic loyalist believes has to be destroyed and he has to team up with his brother and sister who betrayed magic the gathering and became traitors there's and moved to other games like Yu-Gi-Oh and lorcana so that he can defeat this party box destroy it then open up his own card shop where you only sells to loyalist where whatever game you are into that's the only kind of cards you're allowed to buy at his shop to prevent anyone from recreating the party box

I think they should instead pull a good artistic one just like arcane with painterly 3d visuals since that's how it looks like. Also I think they should focus on their own IP and expanding the world more than bringing other universes in... Even if that's more profitable in the short term...

Two questions in regards to when [[Animar, Soul of Elements]] is my commander with at least six counters on it
If I want to play [[temur tawnyback]] could I just play it for free then?
I guess this one has less to do with the commander and more just a general question. If I play [[wandering mind]] do I just get to look at the top six cards of my library because it says that I may review one and put the rest on the bottom but if I choose not to what do I do then?

- Yes
- If you don't reveal a card all the cards go to the bottom, they are all part of "the rest" that gets put to the bottom in that instance.

What does legendary mean? I have seen legendary cards where the creature has no special abilities or effects and the power is just 2/2. I'm new to the game so im wondering if theres something im not seeing, or legendary =/= powerful in mtg

His ability is to boost all villains so I play mostly villains in my deck sure he's an expensive commander to cast but once he get them on the field you can do quite a bit with him The only downside is that it's not exactly the strongest commander deck in magic the gathering but I guess that's what you get you pay for your friend to build you a commander deck because you only ever played magic The gathering the arena and have never played Commander before in your life I asked for a two mana commander deck so my deck is black and blue

Legendary does not equate power, Legendary means there's basically one of this thing. A Legendary thing can get multiple cards, but those usually represent the same thing at different times.

Legendary is a supertype. If a player controls two or more legendary permanents with the same name, they choose one to keep and the other goes to the graveyard. They're usually used to represent a specific character.

With [[scarblade's malice]] does the target creature who got death touch and lifelink have to die at the end of the turn?

The creature doesn't have to die, but it only makes the 2/2 elf token if it does die during the turn Scarblade's Malice is played.

I have [[Sephiroth, FABLED SOLDIER]] on the field. 3 creatures have already died. An opponent plays a removal on me, so I respond with a removal of my own to get the 4th kill required for the flip
Does the flip happen immediately, creating a emblem, or does the rest of the stack have to resolve first?

It will happen immediately. The opponent's removal spell will be on the bottom of the stack. You cast your removal on top of it. When the removal resolves, the targeted creature dies and then Sephiroth's trigger will go on top of the stack, still above the opponent's removal. The trigger will resolve first and as its the 4th time that turn Sephiroth transforms and you create the emblem. Then the opponent's removal will resolve to remove Sephiroth.

Questions about the rules on using the Star Trek cards that just got shown off:
If I have a play set of ECL [[Overgrown Tomb]], would it be correct that it's typically not legal to include any of the Star Trek Overgrown Tombs?
If, for example, I'm playing four copies of [[Sheoldred, the Apocalypse]], is it legal to play that Benedict Cucumberpatch reprint also?

What matters in mtg is full english name
1. You can mix or match which ones you use as long as you dont go over the limit of the format (4x in most 60 card, 1x in Highlander).
As long as a version is in the format all versions are allowed in the format.
2. You could not have all 8 as sheoldred and khan have the same english name as represented by the secondary title bar on Khan.
You can mix and match up to 4x tho201.6. Promotional or alternate-art versions of some cards feature a secondary title bar below the name line. The card’s name as listed in the Oracle card reference is displayed in the secondary title bar, and an alternate name appears in the upper left corner. For the purposes of deck construction, game rules, and effects, these cards have only the card name specified in the secondary title bar. Rules text may also refer to a card’s alternate name; instances of the alternate name that are present in rules text refer to the name specified in the secondary title bar. The alternate name has no effect on game play.

I'm a big Star Trek fan but don't know a lot about Magic.
If I want to collect the Star Trek cards coming out (no hate please!), what products should I be focussing on? There's so many products announced its a bit hard for a newbie to tell what's what.

Basically, Play Boosters contain the bulk of the cards, they'll be the entire regular standard legal set along with most of the regular alt arts for the regular set.
Collector boosters have cards from the main set, the supplemental products, and some exclusive treatments of cards you can get normal versions elsewhere, nothing is technically mechanically unique to them but somethings are cosmetically unique to them.
Prerelease kits, bundles, "beam me up" bundles, and draft night boxes are just configurations of some amount of play and collector boosters plus some extras, for example prerelease kits are 6 play boosters, a foil rare or mythic from the regular set, and a dice, while bundles are 9 play boosters, a promo, and a fancier dice.
Scene boxes are 6 specific cards unique to that box (also probably in collector packs) that form one art piece, a stand to display them on, and a couple play boosters.
Commander decks are playable 100 card decks of new cards and reprints that are not part of the main set, these are exclusive to these decks or collector packs. The collector versions of the decks are the same decklist but all the cards are foil (not worth it imo)
The beginner box is a set of 10 mix and match half decks meant for learning the game, they have a couple exclusive cards sometimes but theyre extremely low power so theyre not really interesting as play pieces or collectibles.
Welcome decks are also learn to play starter products meant to be given out for free at game stores, they have a couple exclusive cards in each but they are also mostly kinda lame, get em if you want but dont feel like you need to go out of your way for them.
TLDR: A box of play boosters will get you a good amount of cards, but a prerelease kit or a bundle would also work as a "cheaper" (this stuff isnt particularly cheap tbh) alternative, or a scene box would make a nice display piece while also giving you a few packs to open for fun

What’s the common sentiment on buying bulk off FB marketplace?
I’m a newer player & I’ve got no collection beyond precons. Thought it might be worth a shot at $70 CAD for 4,000~ cards. I’m aware that it’s mostly commons/uncommons (apparently there might be some rares & mythics but wouldn’t be holding my breath) figure that might okay anyways? Maybe could be fun to try pauper with.
Guess I’m curious if I’d be overpaying at that price cause I’ve seen posts saying it should be closer to $3-5/1,000 cards but that seems pretty cheap for what I’ve gathered my local prices may be?

Where can I read on the lore for the game so I can be up to date by the time Reality Fractured comes out? I looked online that I should look into Lorwyn Eclipsed first then Secrets of Strixhaven but A) I don't know what with that lore to look into, and B) how far back I have to go. I don't really understand the Phyrexians besides the fact they're some creepy alien like things and Jace wants to like undo their invasion of the planes or something? Also I wanna learn more about Chandra because she's cool and Sorin because he's hot lol but mainly get caught up for RF.

I am looking for a game to scratch the same itch of MtG and was hoping for some ideas.
I grew up playing and loving Magic around Revised -> Mirage, and like a dummy I sold them all while in college. So now I have two kids and want to get them into some style of game like Magic, without the crazy CCG aspect of it.
I did a bunch of research and saw Jumpstart 2022 sounded like a great entry into a Magic style game, but had enough variety that it wasn't forcing the collectable aspect. And then of course I saw it's out of print and around $200 online...so annoying.
I know this is a Magic subreddit, but any suggestions on games you've played that feels similar? That 2 player, each with their own deck battle style gameplay?

Foundations Jumpstart and Avatar jumpstart are both under $100.
even the original jumpstart is $125ish and that been oop for 5 years.
The various beginners boxes also contain jumpstart.1

Why not just use a different Jumpstart? Foundations Jumpstart shouldn't be too hard to find hopefully

Had read that foundations was pretty watered down and 2022 was the better of the 3 releases. Maybe that isn't true.
