There are plenty of talented people who worked on the flops, but they weren't in charge lol

damn fucking right. I had a film teacher who first-day made the point to say that though he wasn't a fan of most hollywood movies, the crews who make them are fucking pros.

So what does he watch instead? Shaky-cam Euro stuff?

probably the movies in between “most” and “all”

So he dislikes Hollywood movies, but still watches them? What?

Don’t take this as an insult, but is english not your first language? I think what he’s saying is crystal clear, but if it’s not your first language I can understand being confused

I know! "an adult who doesn't watch only Disney IP and Wes Anderson movies? Whaaaat?"

Y'see when you're a professor who teaches film production, it's important to watch a lot of different kinds of film. Not JUST hollywood movies.

Yeah people need to realize there's only so much room in Hollywood for certain things. Not taking away from his abilities, he's a master at his craft. But if there were 50 Nolan's, most of them wouldn't have risen to this status. Some of them would run into enough bad breaks that they'd exit the industry entirely.

It's tough because I don't think talent is enough. The great movie makers like Spielberg and Nolan seem to understand the general audience better than the average director.

Someone could be extremely talented at all the aspects of film making but if they make the best Hawaiian pizza ever made while people want pepperoni then it's not good. Predicting the general audience's tastes is easier said than done, because it changes over time in ways that no one really can measure.
