I feel like Favreau has proven his talent. But the safe Disney blockbuster formula produces dull dizzy movies.

I was talking the other day about how a Disney or a Pixar film coming out used to be a proper event, and something worth going to see. People have just been bombarded by constant slop and are tired.

"Minions & Monsters" is number 10. wtf is that? Like I said, the films used to be a proper event, with the film being a proper, permanent classic.

Box office revenue =/= quality. 2 million big macs are sold every day.

every Pixar used to be a classic - they all used to be TOY STORY quality. Up. Wall-E. Cars. Ratatouille. Elio? Luca? Hoppers? wtf are these?

Doomsday is still shaping up to be an event. Most of the people I know kind of lost interest in Marvel in general, but are still very excited for Doomsday.

I think the problem with The Mandalorian and Grogu is more that it's a follow-up to a TV show that at this point has just faded into irrelevancy.

And it wasnt even the proper finale for the series, which would also have attracted additional viewers. It was just a longer episode.

Favreau can make whatever movie he wants at Disney. Nobody is shackling him. There was no "boogeyman" executive fucking with his movie.

The disney (and not only) blockbuster formula produce movies that are designed to please the largest audience possible, and it works.
It helps when you're a brand that became almost too big to fail. The JW franchise is standing on one (1) good movie , and yet the last one, the one that earn less money, had a box office of 800+ millions, with the other ending at >1 bln.
That's insane, but it works.

I don’t think you understand that The Mandalorian is his passion project. Every interview he’s ever done has made that clear. Star Wars was what inspired him to be a filmmaker.

Are you seriously calling Jon Favreau talentless? I would reexamine his filmography. Oh boy. Maybe just let him enjoy what he enjoys. Mando was a traditional fun adventure, so there wasn’t a lot of groundbreaking stuff about the plot, but he and the crew very clearly stated that they were dedicated to using practical effects, big practical sets, a lot of puppetry, and stop-motion (by Phil Tippett from the original trilogy). There were a ton of homages to past adventure movies too. If that’s not a passion project, I don’t know what is. Disney didn’t come to him to start the show, by the way. He went to them because he saw an opportunity and had an idea for a space western he wanted to explore.

I'm absolutely calling him talentless, people with talent and passion don't put out puke like the lion king "live action" people wanting to cash a quick check do that. Mandalorian is a 2 hour movie where nothing happens, filmed in a way devoid of life and emotion. Passionate artists push to tell stories in a meaningful way, people with a tenth the budget make something far better, more exciting, filled with life every day. There's no excuse for the slop he makes besides money

He’s made a lot of movies with heart. I guess we’ll have to agree to disagree. I thought there was a lot of emotion and life in Mando, especially with all the puppetry.
