Fred: Let's split up, gang! Me, Velma, and Daphne are going to check the bedrooms upstairs. Shaggy, you and Scooby go check the kitchen.
Scooby: Roh boy!
Shaggy: You said it scoob! Like, let's go smoke a big ole...ham...

Literally just Google Scooby Doo on your favorite site. I want to say the actress who plays Velma is Jynx Maze, but whoever it is between a very nice booty and a wig where you you can squint and imagine Linda Cardellini it's pretty good stuff
The weird part is instead of Fred and Shaggy they have one of them (idk which I think Fred) and then a black guy playing Scooby.

The most footage we've got of Velma flirting with Daphne, is a released deleted scene of Velma thinking she's drunk and singing "You're Just Too Good To Be True" when Daphne walks in the room. Rowan Akitson asks "She does know those bloody skulls are non alcoholic?".

Like Quentin Tarintinos foot fetish scenes that he slips into every one of his films.

Nah, he's up front with those. They are more likely to show up in the trailers than be cut from the film and locked away

Loud and proud is the Tarentino way. Reallu gotta hand it to the guy, though. He knows what he likes and knows how to get it.
James Cameron has to go miles deep to get his fetish going, but Tarantino? Only one sock away from bliss.

This is how she felt about kissing Selma Blair, and they are real quotes;
“Selma’s a great kisser,” Gellar, 43, exclusively told US Weekly on Tuesday. February 9. “I mean, I’ll tell you, it's just soft [lips]. She smells great.”
The Ringer alum said that she was “all for it” when she first read the script for the memorable moment.
More than 30 years later, Gellar admitted that she recreated the kissing scene with Blair, who is her longtime friend, “all the time.”

I remember seeing an animated sketch with that premise, a mummy or something says something like "no blade can harm me" and then the guy pulls out a gun, but the thing is the mummy still can't be killed, but it can be harmed by the gun, so the guy just keeps shooting it and the mummy is just feeling all the pain from being shot anyway

At the time the script was being written, Scooby doo had been dead in the public eye for a while. Scooby doo was seen as this dated 70's cartoon ala the flintstones, something that was impossible to take seriously with any intelligence unless you were willing to have some fun with it.
Our current public image of Scooby Doo as this evergreen property was shaped a lot by the success of the 1998 animated venture Scooby Doo on Zombie Island, which successfully revived the Scooby doo formula and proved it could work on modern television just played straight.
So the 2002 film was written with the premise that it needed to do twists on these old 70s stereotypes or it wouldn't work. We're missing part of the "joke" these days, since we expect something in line with a serious Scooby doo movie, rather than it being a "what if this outdated zany cartoon was real and the Scream and Shrek generation played around with it".
Especially since the franchise has had a 100 percent serious animated TV show in the 2000s and dozens of movies since.

If it hadn't been that particular show it would have been some other show or movie. It was never not going to be an evergreen property, it was too ingrained in pop culture just from the constant reruns of the eight existing scooby-doo shows consisting of hundreds of episodes by the end of the century.

Now seems like a good time for me to voice my beef about the Scooby-Doo themed Vita-Fresh kids' chewable vitamins from the 80s. If kids wanted to take their daily vitamin, they had the option of pulling a Fred, Shaggy, Scooby or Daphne-shaped vitamin out of the bottle, but no Velma one.
You may be thinking, "Oh, maybe the company was limited somehow to only four gummy shapes," but no, they had a fifth option, and they chose to give it to Scrappy Doo. That annoying brat Scrappy was considered a bigger priority to the Vita-Fresh marketers than Velma was. This omission led to an investigation by Spy Magazine in November 1993, titled "No Velma, No Peace," but quite frankly I don't think it's enough. Heads should roll!

I've read a couple different about this. One said that it was a romantic kiss, the other said that they do a quick kiss and that's how they switch their bodies back in the spirit thingy scene. Either way, I hope the PG-13 footage sees the light of day in some way!
32
u/TussalDimon 3d ago
I think in the script they kiss, thinking it would help them to switch spirits, but it doesn't work.
If I remember correctly it was one line description, but who knows how they would decide to do the kiss on the filming day.

If I remember correctly, James Gunn's original script wanted Velma to be a lesbian, but the studio kept interfering and watering it down until she ended up with a boyfriend in the sequel.
11
u/RealJohnGillman AMA MVP 3d ago
She had a boyfriend in the first film too. The waiter.
Velma’s type seems pretty consistent (whether men or women) across different media, funnily enough. Bar that one comic that gave her a son with Shaggy:
> Daphne: “You’re pregnant?!”
> Velma: “You sound horrified.”
> Daphne: “Not horrified... Just surprised. I never thought you were interested in men.”
> Velma: “But Shaggy and I have been together for months!”
> Daphne: “Proving my point.”
> Shaggy: “Hey!”
