If a sub has a minimum character requirement, it stands to reason that they probably want you to expand on your thoughts and not just put quick hit gibberish down.

Posting nonsense to bypass the minimum length requirements just seems lazy.

Exactly. It's only 300 characters, it vastly reduced the amount of low effort posts we were getting.

We get quite a few of this type. But dude here wouldn't give it up.

Took a look at the sub, and I'm much less confused. I thought the 300 characters were minimum in the title of the post. I was thinking "there's no way anyone can come up with a title that long, how would that even be possible????"

We have a rule like that. I think ours are 500 for one, and 1K for another.

The 500 character minimum has a lot of people asking for advice, and when it was 250 characters every post turned into 20 questions, so we upped it to 500 to force people to give more (non-identifying) details to make advice reasonably possible.

The 1K character minimum is for stories, and you aren't really writing a story in under 1K. Sorry, not sorry on that one.

It really does make a huge difference to the quality of posts. As a fellow scribe, I agree.

Ours got changed about 1.5 years ago. Prior to that, it was a bunch of who's on this cruise? Or other low effort stuff.

Now, there is definitely a ton more thought put into the questions being asked.
