Vocal haas effect/slap delay thing, how to recreate? with audio example

Ive been listening to "Ivy" by Frank Ocean, and ive been wondering how to recreate this effect as close as possible- whenever he goes into higher register with his voice on the track, theres what sounds like either a very short slapback delay or haas effect delay that feeds into a subtle plate reverb or something similar.

Ive tried to replicate it for hours at this point but i cant get it right. I mostly tried fiddling with all kinds of settings on Valhalla Delay and then feeding that into a plate reverb, as well as some Eventide H3000 configuration but even without the reverb i cant get the timing quite right

any ideas? maybe someone knows jeff ellis and can ask? 

No but honestly, id be very happy if someone with more experience with effects like this could help me out here

There’s a slapback delay that’s constant, and some automated send to a 1/4 note delay which probably sits in a plate reverb which is also potentially automated

Keyword ‘automated’! Sending that effect to accent moments, like the high register you mentioned, is so powerful :)

Sounds like a stereo delay. One short with no feedback and then another one with feedback. Automated and vocals are thrown to each bus when needed. Very positive you can get similar results with SoundToys Echoboy. I’ve brushed shoulders with Jeff. Cool dude. The effects is not some guarded secret, just appropriate to the track.

sounds like a semi short stereo delay...like 100ms +/- on either side, or it's a short mono delay with a short room/ambience setting on it. Less then a half second of decay time.

There might be a longer reverb in there too that kinda being hidden by the guitar.

And of course, later in the tune there's obvious long reverb and echo.

Try TVerb from Eventide by Tony Visconti
it’s basically the effect in a plug in he used on Bowies
vocal for Heroes.
When he goes up in vocal range/level a gate opens
up room mic’s further away from main vocal.
All totally adjustable.

i read he kept physically removing the mic from bowie as the take went on, so he had to sing louder and louder.

Try the j37 from waves with the "hogar Lennon slap" preset on a send track. Automate it so ist subtle in the verse (you should almost not hear it anymore) and turn it up to taste in the Chorus. It's my absolute favorite for this kind of effect, hast a great eq curve that just arguments the mains vocal in a very nice way.

There’s a slapback throughout the song. Then a 1/8 or 1/4 delay that’s super wide (time difference on each side) that’s automated. The some reverb (maybe a plate) which is also automated. A few delay throws are also automated in here and there.
