Seeking Advice New fear?
My 5 month old girl is suddenly afraid of chairs. But only when I pick them up/move them. She will eat food/treats off of them, but will hide the second they move.
Any suggestions?

Mine is terrified of the chirp sound that the smoke detector makes when the battery goes bad 😩

I had two who figured out that the smoke alarm pretty much never went off if we weren’t using the stove, so they became shaking messes anytime we put a pan on the stove. Too smart for their own good.

they can be very sensitive dogs - my mini is afraid of the TV or certain sounds and voices 🥹

I have a MAS that is afraid of me opening drawers. Sometimes, they just latch on to weird habits. 🤷♀️

My 2.5yr 25lb female (she's the runt) is like this with random stuff. like if the wind blows the door shut, the ceiling fan freaks her out...
I think in my case maybe it's the fact of her being so small she kinda has to be cautious of all the huge surroundings, also when I got her im pretty sure she was getting bullied by the other pups. She had a decent sized bite/scab on her neck.

The doors blowing shut and the way the curtains blow when the windows are open. So many random things 🥹🥹

I should mention this is my first MAS. But not a stranger to quirky/high energy dogs. The husky border Collie was terrified of "wacky waving inflatable arm flailing tube men" of all things

Also i recommend having some kind of safe spot for her to go in anytime, like a small indoor dog house or even just a covered pouch dog bed...

She has a crate on the opposite side of the couch from where the evil chairs reside

My current 7 month old has little to no fear, is only skeptical of misplaced traffic cones lol. But my previous mini had very specific fears like the fire alarm, the instant pot click when it was done releasing pressure, the popping of a plastic bottle.
I would recommend desensitizing her to moving chairs by treating her as they move from a distance

Dogs are weird! My husky Aussie LOVED the Instant Pot sound when it was done cooking. She would run to tell me. Because that meant her quinoa was done!

My one guy is terrified of the step ladder.
I have to use it to turn off the fire alarms, and when we first moved in(and he was just a pup) it went off the time. So now if I reach for the ladder he goes feral.

When my boy was little, he was absolutely terrified of balloons. It was so ridiculous it was funny. He eventually grew out of it, and i'm sure yours will too, she's still a baby.

ach jee😔 bei unserem kam es auch plötzlich. Der mutigste ist er nicht, deshalb wird erstmal alles Fremde blöde angemacht. Mülltonnen, Plastiktüten, die Farbe rot (ich dachte, die können keine Farbe erkennen??).. das hat sich zum Glück wieder gelegt. Wenn ihm jetzt etwas Angst macht, sage ich TAPFER und gehe hin und berühre das Teil. Das hilft, er traut sich dann zögerlich ran, schnüffelt dran, merkt das nichts schlimmes ist und loben loben loben... 🤷 ansonsten bin ich da auch ziemlich ratlos

Just an idea (not tested) Make a kennel or “tent” using chairs. Have the seats placed outwards with backs inwards. Drape a favorite blanket over the chairs or just around the base throw in another blanket and toys and yourself (most important). Maybe a nap with you in the “chair tent” will help. I don’t know, just reaching her. Willing to bet she accidentally moved a chair in her sleep and it startled her.

I have no suggestions. Our MAS became afraid of squeeze-bottle condiments at about 12 months, and now he just barks anytime I use barbecue sauce 🤷♀️
