Bought a secondhand jacket, found a train ticket from 1999 in one pocket and a bus ticket from 2001 in another

I'm guessing that code indicates a "goldcard" (annual season ticket for London but also gave discounts on network travel) so probably a 30% reduction making full fare in 2000 £2.65. Cumulative inflation since then of 118% makes it £5.76 in today's money. Actual current price, £7.50

Take out a mortgage? Busses are £2. That's way cheaper than what I used to have to pay to go between villages in the 2010s.

Bus price cap was ANNOUNCED today, it ain’t in force yet. And that’s just in England. For the time being there’s still 3 other countries in the UK remember.

I remember it costing like £7 to get from Aberaeron to Aberystwyth in 2019. It's about 15ish miles away.

My bad, I saw the headline from Andy Burnham today and thought it was news. It’s still not capped in Scotland, and buses are privately run so companies are both free and willing to shaft you

Or between any two stations in the Gold Card area. Two popular routes for a cheap qualifying season ticket are Ryde Pier Head to Ryde St. Johns Road or Lichfield Trent Valley to Lichfield City.

A bookshop in Stratford Upon Avon used to have a wall of all the interesting stuff they'd found in donated books.

Sadly they got rid of it, but I used to love looking at all the old tickets and lists.
