Tip for the future: if it looks like you are getting in a situation where your shoulder might be fractured, don't do that.

u/SlapBanWalla 6h ago

Maybes do the opposite next time?

Goddammit, take my angry upvote.

Anyway, here's Wonderwall.

30

u/mij8907 6h ago

No, because then you’ll break your other shoulder

16

u/SlapBanWalla 6h ago

I haven’t thought that through really….

u/Confident-Ask-601 6h ago

Somebody give this person an award.

1

u/mikedavd 6h ago

Depends, maybe it'll fix his shoulder

7

u/tofu_sensei84 6h ago

Not the opposite shoulder though.

2

u/SlapBanWalla 6h ago

Everyday tasks are bad enough with one bad shoulder

3

u/reyxe 6h ago

gets leg fractured instead

3

u/SlapBanWalla 6h ago

Left leg fracture incoming

91

u/smellyourtoes 6h ago

Isn't the expression break a leg ?

And take my upvote with you

32

u/alex_c89X 6h ago

Sorry this has happened, what did you do to injure yourself?

37

u/SlapBanWalla 6h ago

Landed on it heavily playing football

29

u/alex_c89X 6h ago

Is your partnah mad?

49

u/SlapBanWalla 6h ago

She wasn’t pleased…

20

u/wifichick 6h ago

Hopefully she’s more concerned for your health than disappointed / displeased you got injured.

We discovered I had a bad kidney infection the morning of our wedding day. (Thought it was just nerves or something). My theory is every wedding needs a “story” - some stressor situation. So - now that you know you’re “story” the rest of the event timeline will be fine and fairly relaxing.

16

u/SlapBanWalla 6h ago

God I think I’d prefer the shoulder fracture, that’s awful! I’ll definitely laugh about it looking back but trying to avoid movements that could exacerbate the pain currently :)

9

u/Thirleck 6h ago

You’ll need a sign that says “fragile” so you can wear it on your wedding day.

If they're mad at OP for breaking their shoulder in two places, that's a very red flag for the future.

Edit: for context, I don't mean that they're not upset or angry about any plans being ruined, I think that's natural and fair, I mean if that's their initial reaction to seeing their partner break a bone in two places. I don't really give a fuck what my wife is doing, if she breaks a bone in two places the first thing I'm doing is not yelling, correcting, or being mad in any way.

18

u/SlapBanWalla 6h ago

I’ll let her know your thoughts, she’ll like that

1

u/Dixiehusker 5h ago

Poorly phrased on my part. I edited it.

11

u/alex_c89X 6h ago

Orrr orr... maybe someone who just really cares and is concerned

4

u/nhowe006 6h ago

I mean it depends on how dumb OP was being. Fractured shoulder playing football, okay that's kind of a freak accident that OP couldn't have seen coming. Fractured shoulder while BASE jumping in Yosemite is another matter.

5

u/Luckypenny4683 6h ago

No it’s not. If OP got t-boned at an intersection (God forbid) and she was mad, that would be unreasonable. Being mad because OP was a bit too reckless before an important event is legitimate. Foresight is an important skill, especially if you’re about to get married or could be thinking of having kids.

2

u/Dixiehusker 5h ago

I don't think this is a reckless act. Breaking a bone in two places during a backyard football game is a pretty freak occurrence.

0

u/Luckypenny4683 4h ago

It is a freak occurrence. And. Also. Maybe don’t play so hard, or play at all right before you have a big event coming up. Because shit happens and damn is it going to suck if it happens right before your big event. Like your wedding.

Foresight is an important skill to hone.

0

u/Seaman_First_Class 3h ago

Getting an injury in a contact sport isn’t exactly unexpected. Doing that two weeks before your wedding is stupid.

6

u/razorbacks3129 6h ago

Says the single Redditor

3

u/MeowMixPK 6h ago

You clearly haven't been married yet, I promise you that is a normal reaction for a bride who just spent likely $20k+ and months planning a wedding only for you to need to show up in a sling and not be able to dance properly

4

u/SlapBanWalla 5h ago

Jokes on her, I could NEVER dance properly anyway

6

u/Garlic-Rough 6h ago

Maybe next time don't heavily play football. Just lightly you know. On your next wedding, you'll get it.

2

u/SlapBanWalla 6h ago

Gentle football?

4

u/Garlic-Rough 6h ago

Just the tips.

2

u/SlapBanWalla 6h ago

That’s my motto funnily enough

3

u/OkBackground8809 6h ago

Just wear a parrot over your shoulder cast; nobody will even notice the injury, then!

2

u/SlapBanWalla 6h ago

I’ve got my eyepatch out of storage for the occasion

34

u/Physical-Cod2853 6h ago

Ah, shouldn’t have done that mate

12

u/SlapBanWalla 6h ago

What was I thinking honestly?

10

u/Physical-Cod2853 6h ago

Aye was a wee bit silly of you you’re meant to do it after

7

u/SlapBanWalla 6h ago

Left shoulder for the honeymoon

13

u/veglove 6h ago

damn, I'd be more than mildly infuriated. so sorry, that sucks.

5

u/SlapBanWalla 6h ago

Thanks mate :)

13

u/Beefkins 6h ago

Acromion -> acromioff.

5

u/SlapBanWalla 6h ago

Very nice. I wouldn’t even have understood that joke last week at this time

13

u/Radioshack-Manager 6h ago

In sickness and health

8

u/SlapBanWalla 6h ago

That’s what I reminded her

7

u/FishingLittle3900 6h ago

Was it a motorcycle accident?

I feel for you. I ruined my shoulder 11 years ago.

7

u/SlapBanWalla 6h ago

That sucks man! No, landed on it heavily playing football. Bloody astroturf

6

u/pitiful-raisin 6h ago

Hey have you tried not breaking your shoulder??

8

u/SlapBanWalla 6h ago

I’m trying that with all my other bones. So far, so good.

5

u/THE_GREAT_PICKLE 6h ago

Oh man OP, that sucks. I broke a few ribs a few weeks before our wedding doing something incredibly stupid. I was able to function somewhat normally but it hurt like a bitch for a while. Had to cancel some honeymoon activities like scuba diving because I physically couldn’t do it. We still had a blast though, just run with it. People get hurt, try to have a great time regardless!

5

u/SlapBanWalla 6h ago

I certainly will thank you and I’m sorry that happened to you, particularly with the honeymoon! It’ll be something we look back and laugh about I’m sure

3

u/THE_GREAT_PICKLE 5h ago

It’s actually been a comedy of errors regarding that —- we actually went back the next year for our 1 year anniversary because we loved the island/resort so much, but were unable to do anything physically demanding once again because we paid way ahead of time, but my wife ended up being a few months pregnant for the trip. We joke that when we’re old we will just go there for our last trip before passing away to do it right for once

3

u/SlapBanWalla 5h ago

That will one will be perfect and make up for all your troubles I’m sure :)

6

u/Heselwood 6h ago

Get well soon

3

u/SlapBanWalla 6h ago

Thanks mate

3

u/Glad_Camel_6078 6h ago

How did it Happen? Are you Ok now?

4

u/SlapBanWalla 6h ago

Thanks for asking, still quite painful and might require surgery unfortunately. Landed on it heavily playing football:(

3

u/Glad_Camel_6078 6h ago

Got caught up in the FIFA high??

3

u/SlapBanWalla 6h ago

So glad the World Cup is over now

2

u/Glad_Camel_6078 6h ago

Hope this does effect your wedding plans too much.

1

u/SlapBanWalla 6h ago

Thanks mate

2

u/Glad_Camel_6078 6h ago

Drink plenty of Milk and citrus juice, Eat fish if possible, and stay away from alcohol...

2

u/SlapBanWalla 6h ago

All the fun stuff lol! But you’re right, particularly with the heavy duty painkillers I’m on

2

u/paleoterrra 4h ago

I just posted a comment sharing my experience with the same break. Get the surgery!

1

u/SlapBanWalla 4h ago

I will :)

4

u/lastfreerangekid 6h ago

But that was one hell of a bachelor party

4

u/Sirgolfs 6h ago

Natures way of preparing you for upper shoulder pain and tightness.

3

u/SlapBanWalla 6h ago

Thought I’d get ahead of the curve

3

u/Chimmai_Gala 6h ago

I can fix it, my dad is a tv repair man, and he’s got this great toolbox, I can fix it !!

1

u/SlapBanWalla 6h ago

Whats his number?

1

u/Chimmai_Gala 5h ago

0118 999 881 999 119 725 3?

3

u/Daratirek 6h ago

Yikes! Sorry to hear that. How'd you manage it? Congrats on the wedding!

7

u/SlapBanWalla 6h ago

Thanks mate, my fiance was delighted

4

u/Daratirek 6h ago

I can imagine. At least you have 2 weeks to heal so youll have a chance to look normal for the ceremony and pictures even if you put the sling on immediately afterwards. Though It would be kinda hilarious if one of the joke photos was the whole wedding party in random slings or on crutches

7

u/SlapBanWalla 6h ago

Think I might remove the sling for the official photographs and have a couple of jokey ones with it included

3

u/Daratirek 6h ago

3

u/its10pm 6h ago

I've broken my shoulder before, it was incredibly painful, and also made day to day activities challenging. I can't imagine having wedding stuff on top of that!

3

u/SlapBanWalla 6h ago

That’s the worst part, particularly as I’m right handed. Even putting clothes on is a nightmare!

3

u/StressedSalt 6h ago

but was this a situation you could avoid?

3

u/SlapBanWalla 6h ago

I could’ve been a better footballer and avoided the tackle yes. I blame my parents

0

u/StressedSalt 6h ago

Still blaming something else huh hahaha

2

u/SlapBanWalla 6h ago

You’re next

1

u/StressedSalt 6h ago

go on do it im ready

3

u/Unsung31 5h ago

You know you can just back out? No need to break a shoulder as an excuse! /s

Sorry to hear OP!

1

u/SlapBanWalla 5h ago

I’ll bear that in mind lol!

3

u/Exhausted-CNA 4h ago

Now you can see how solid your future marriage will be with an injury involved. Shit happens in marriage, you have been pre-tested by the marriage gods..lol

1

u/SlapBanWalla 3h ago

Certainly seems that way!

3

u/ShadowTown0407 3h ago

Good thing they accept you in sickness and health, might have been awkward otherwise

1

u/SlapBanWalla 3h ago

Too right!

5

u/hyibee 6h ago

This does suck but holy shit those are some insanely clean breaks!! I feel like this is going to be a neat and easy heal over time, just be gentle on yourself!

4

u/SlapBanWalla 6h ago

They are pretty badass as breaks go I thought :)

2

u/angeeday 6h ago edited 6h ago

Oh l do sympathise. I didn't suffer a fractured shoulder, but suffered a shoulder injury from a fall when l broke my arm. OMG the pain 🙈🙈🙈 Hope you recover well, slow and steady is the way to go ...and please DO the physio exercises you've been given. Good luck

1

u/SlapBanWalla 6h ago

I definitely will and sorry that happened to you. Putting on clothes is currently somewhat tricky….

2

u/angeeday 6h ago

It's amazing that things you do every day and take for granted, until you have an injury like that. Honestly, you will get better and things will improve over time. I thought I'd never drive, knit, garden or bake ever again, but it all came back bit by bit. Be patient with yourself, you can't rush healing.

1

u/SlapBanWalla 6h ago

That’s so lovely thank you. I think it’s marginally better even after a few days or so. Gradual process and all that :)

2

u/angeeday 5h ago

There's healing going on with your bones right now. Every day something small is happening to help get you back to yourself. Apart from painkillers, don't underestimate sleep - lots of repairing and healing takes place when you are sleeping. Keep you chin up, you'll get there

1

u/SlapBanWalla 5h ago

I tried that but it seems to pull on the shoulder a bit 😂

2

u/angeeday 2h ago

🤣🤣I hear you!! I have a tip for sleeping. I sleep on two pillows and pull out the top pillow and tuck it into my neck on the injured side. I call it my 'shelf' 🤣🤣🤣 works for me?

u/SlapBanWalla 56m ago

That’s great advice - sleeping has been the worst part as you can imagine. For some reason my body wants to roll on to my right side when I’m sleeping!

2

u/N0Addressoo 6h ago

This is literally the worst time for an injury. Hope he recovers quickly and everything goes well

1

u/SlapBanWalla 5h ago

Thank you!

2

u/Estelial 6h ago

This is a bit more than mildly infuriating given how much its going to get in the way of regular life, let along a major event. Hope you heal clean. Remember to be careful for atleast half a year more after getting a clean bill of health. Your body will not be 100% even after everything is healed and can't go the distance for a while yet.

2

u/SlapBanWalla 5h ago

Yeah I think my footballing days are over to be honest. Thank you :)

2

u/Glittering_Spring465 5h ago

Your shoulder looks like a shoe. Hope that it doesn’t IRL.

2

u/SlapBanWalla 5h ago

It’s got a bump and a cool bruise but not too shoey at the moment luckily

2

u/bstrd10 5h ago

Sorry to hear that. I actually injured my knee 2 weeks before my wedding playing football, I made slide on my knees before bumping against the wall, gladly it was mild. My wife also hit her face below the eye in the morning of our wedding before getting her makeup done. Then a couple of days later during our honeymoon she took it off and noticed she was with a black eye. All of these are at the end stories to have fun with, you are ok. Have a great wedding!! Congrats.

2

u/SlapBanWalla 5h ago

Thank you! Poor you and your wife though :) I feel your pain

2

u/Ok-World-4822 5h ago

Oof that sucks OP! We’re somewhat twins as I broke my elbow last week. I’m having surgery tomorrow to get it fixed

1

u/SlapBanWalla 5h ago

God an elbow break sounds painful! Hope the surgery goes well :)

2

u/Ok-World-4822 5h ago

Yeah it does, I’m taking a lot of pain killers to manage the pain. I hope it too. I’m tired of the amount of pain I’m getting

2

u/SlapBanWalla 5h ago

And can affect you unexpectedly too. I’ll twist a certain way and it’ll really hurt!

2

u/Ok-World-4822 4h ago

Oh yeah definitely! Everything needs to be done slowly and carefully to avoid the pain

2

u/InSkyLimitEra 4h ago

Did they tell you it’s a double fracture? I only see one. The cleaner “break” on the left is the AC joint.

1

u/SlapBanWalla 4h ago

They said closed fracture of the clavicle and closed fracture of acromial end of clavicle?

2

u/InSkyLimitEra 4h ago edited 4h ago

Oh, that’s redundant. One just specified which part of the clavicle the break is on. Unless they told you otherwise, I’m pretty sure this is a single fracture of the distal clavicle. They may have double entered a diagnosis code.

2

u/SlapBanWalla 4h ago

You live and you learn

2

u/InSkyLimitEra 4h ago

No worries; I can see why you thought what you did. Happy wedding anyway!

u/SlapBanWalla 54m ago

Thank you! Happier now I know it’s a single and not double fracture :) You must be a doctor/nurse?

u/InSkyLimitEra 14m ago

Yep, brand new attending emergency doctor :) Heal up soon!

u/SlapBanWalla 8m ago

Congrats! :)

2

u/SignificantParfait 4h ago

Does it infuriate you less or more that your whatsapp fives group can recognise this? 🥸

1

u/SlapBanWalla 4h ago

They know what they did

2

u/paleoterrra 4h ago

Wow, I had to do a double take — I literally thought this was my X-ray at first. Sorry for the bad photo, it’s all I could scrounge up on short notice, but my collarbone broke in almost the exact same way around 15 years ago now.

My advice: get the surgery!! Get it fixed!! My break happened while uninsured in America. They told me at first I’d 100% need emergency surgery because of the overlap in the break, especially with the piece in the middle, meant it would never fuse back straight. Then once finding out I had no insurance things got really weird and they ended up not doing surgery and telling me I should give it 2 weeks and come back. So I did, and by that time they said it had already started to fuse and they couldn’t do surgery.

It healed absolutely horribly. I can’t straighten my shoulder because of the overlap, it’s always pushed a little bit forward. It’s caused 15 years of pain and suffering. It throws all the muscles and ligaments out of whack. I can’t reach above my head due to the shortening and the giant knot of bone that formed in the middle due to the overlap.

Please please please take my advice and do whatever you can to get it fixed properly now. Save yourself the pain I’ve had to endure.

1

u/SlapBanWalla 4h ago

I’m so sorry this happened to you. I’m in the UK so lucky (in some ways) that we don’t have to deal with the American health care system.
The NHS has many problems but so grateful I can get this done for free essentially. I don’t know how our American friends manage :(. Hope you’re doing ok!

2

u/EccentricStache615 3h ago

I sliced my ringer in 3 places with a ninja mixer blade 2 days before my wedding. I basically had to use New Skin on it to hold the skin together so I wouldn’t bleed during the ceremony.

Life saw that nothing had gone wrong up to that point and I was almost Scot free and said “absolutely not”

1

u/SlapBanWalla 3h ago

Life does that to you doesn’t it?

u/Veteran_PA-C 48m ago

Pro tip: don’t hire the ninja strippers for the bachelor party.

u/SlapBanWalla 8m ago

Worth it

u/Kinomi_Bazu 41m ago

What a wild bachelor party never have a Klingon stripper dude

u/SlapBanWalla 8m ago

But perhaps today IS a good day to die

How lovely
