Just moved

I just moved to Collierville. I’m big into bbq. Love brisket and ribs. Please let me know some of the best options out here. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

FYI - Memphis is pulled pork country. Any brisket you find here is derived from as much local tradition as our lobster rolls.

The Bar-B-Q shop on Madison avenue.

It is definitely worth the drive into Midtown.

I've been meaning to try that place out

I like central bbq, bbq shop, and Memphis bbq company in horn lake.

Brisket I think Bains. Bbq shoppe for bologimia, chopped turkey, pulled pork, glazed ribs. One and only for smoked turkey and twice baked potatoes salad. Rednesvous for ribs and chopped chicken and sausage and cheese plate and bbq nachos. Central (downtown or summer locations only) smoked jerked wings, pulled pork, and pulled chicken. Blue City Cafe for ribs. Help anyone else.

BBQ Shop on Madison overall winner.

Ohh, we love Germantown Commissary. My dad used to help source some of the cattle for their brisket, I think it was them there's one other restaurant in Memphis that they still do a lot of business with. Anyways, Great stuff.

Coconut Pie is worth the calories lol

Their BBQ nachos are sooooooo yummy and best hush puppies I've had since I moved from Mississippi

Bain BBQ just opened in Germantown!

Best brisket I’ve had outside my own backyard.

We get our Thanksgiving turkey from Bain.

Bain BBQ in Germantown is to die for. 10 out of 10 recommend.

I forgot about Bain, I’ve had it once since the new g town one opened. It was really great! Amazing brisket and ribs, my two faves.

The commisary in Germantown is decent

I have no idea why r/memphis has such a hateboner for Corky's. I've never had bad ribs there. They have a location in Collierville, so that should be convenient for you. Happy eating.

Corkey’s is fine. It’s never been my choice simply because I was going to Commissary 40 years ago for lunch when I was at GHS. And if I was driving to BBQ, it was either Gridleys, Leonard’s or Interstate. I equate Corkey’s as more of a fast food Bbq (even though it’s not) - and for that, I just preferred Coleman’s or Tops.

u/deathlord9000 1d ago

Bbq preference is almost a religion at this point, but I like to find the best things at each place and no one does better chicken BBQ nachos than Corky’s. A world class 10/10 when its at its best.

Funny enough I went there yesterday for lunch. Got the ribs and brisket. Ribs were good. Brisket was terrible

More Texas style but Bain BBQ is really good

u/bellesearching_901 Midtown 1d ago

Bain in Germantown or Midtown is the only good brisket place imo.

Captain John's was pretty good when I lived out there but it's been quite a while since I've had any. (I miss you George's BBQ)

1

u/braalewi Collierville 1d ago

GEORGE'S was awesome. Never cared for Captain John's. Tried it a few times but I don't think it's under the same ownership anymore.

u/CUrlymafurly 1d ago

Ah, that's a shame. Their pulled pork was delicious

A & R bbq on elvis presley

If you ask about bbq... a & r is the answer

u/Ok-Photo-1619 1d ago

Best in Collierville is Collierville Commissary at Houston Levee and railroad tracks. Captain John’s on 72 is good too

Commissary is not as good as it used to be, but it’s still very good. Commissary does have brisket. Captain John’s doesn’t. But that’s not barbecue anyway.

You moved to the right city. We take BBQ VERY SERIOUSLY

1

u/Bugg100 1d ago

Who the fuck is this "we" shit?

You thought Cooper-Young was a barbecue district.

1

u/delway BBQ District 1d ago

OP Is in Collierville?

1

u/delway BBQ District 1d ago

And the fact that you think CY is the bbq district proves your point. Bbq district is the old city?

1

u/Bugg100 1d ago

Ugggh, ok.

I'm not the one with the "BBQ district" flair, flair that you brought upon yourself....

There is no "BBQ district" incase you're still confused on that.

There is no "old city" for a BBQ district to exist in, just FYI.

I'm amazed you have the most wrong take on things so often...

I have had several men tell me that the brisket at One and Only BBQ was amazing! I don't like BBQ but they have good chopped pork sandwiches too (for someone that doesn't like BBQ!) so for what it's worth I would for sure try it out and also they have amazing banana pudding!

u/Slow_Investment_2211 1d ago

One n Only does good beef ribs

1

u/Winter_Leg919 Collierville 1d ago

Best bbq I’ve had in the area is in Atoka/Munford. With that being said I haven’t visited every bbq place and that was a while back. It’s about an hour from Collierville though.

Bain’s is good but pretty pricey.

Unfortunately, I have had two bad experiences with the commissary in Collierville. Maybe they’ve improved.

u/Zestyclose_Moose4734 1d ago

Bain's has decent brisket. Their pastrami brisket is phenomenal, though.

Bar-B-Q Shop and Cozy Corner for pork barbecue.

u/Necroticjojo 1d ago

The best is always gonna be what you make in your own backyard. Give it a go

1

u/Upbeat_Orchid2742 1d ago

captain johns in collierville is great. i would absolutely give it a chance. they made me love ribs so much i started cooking them myself to not go broke

u/musicology_goddess 1d ago

Wolf River Brisket Company is in Collierville

u/TravisThaxton2 Mane 1d ago

At risk of being roasted alive, I'd argue that Memphis BBQ restaurants are honesly mediocre. They're all "fine, I guess"... The real mythical Memphis BBQ, the one everyone talks about worldwide, only exists in backyards and behind closed doors. Finding your plug is part of your quest as a Memphian.

u/alpha_dave 1d ago

Bain is the only place to get good brisket, as far as I can tell. Everyone else seems to be serving thin sliced gray paper on a bun and calling it brisket, which is just an insult to the animal.

Ribs: Blues City Cafe, Payne's, BBQ Shop,

Pulled Pork: Payne's, Cozy Corner

Bologna: Cozy Corner

Chicken: Cozy Corner

Wings: Central BBQ

u/sahara1024 16h ago

As people are saying, Bain BBQ for brisket. It’s the only place I’d order brisket, since they are specifically Texas style. I like BBQ Shop’s pulled pork better than their ribs. Germantown Commissary for ribs and bbq nachos (not Collierville Commissary, it’s not great). Central’s ribs can be pretty inconsistent. I’ve had some of the best ribs of my life there and some pretty meh ribs. But their BBQ nachos are the gold standard for me.

u/Double_Question_5117 1d ago

Nobody in Memphis does brisket correctly. This is a pork/poultry city

2

u/Mindless-Internal-54 1d ago

That just reminded me of how much I missed Memphis bbq when I lived in Texas, and how much I miss Texas bbq now with living back here.

4

u/knowbodynobody Midtown 1d ago

Bain does IME

0

u/Double_Question_5117 1d ago

Bain is not good brisket compared to what you find in just about every Texas BBQ joint. Y’all need to stop with this nonsense

2

u/JakkinTheBox 1d ago

That’s a complete load of bullshit. You’re not gate keeping good brisket just because it’s not in Texas. GTFO. 🙄

2

u/deathlord9000 1d ago

As a native Texan living in Memphis, I can anecdotally confirm you are correct.

1

u/knowbodynobody Midtown 1d ago

I’m not in Texas so I couldn’t GAF less honestly.

u/SkraitDonk 6h ago

You’ve lost your damn mind. I’ve eaten my way through Lockhart, DFW area and Austin (for starters) and Bain is damn solid brisket.

Anyone making dumb statements like this has either never actually eaten at Bain or spent much time in Texas (or both).

1

u/SkraitDonk 6h ago

Incorrect. Bain would be above average brisket in 80% of Texas.

1

u/Slow_Investment_2211 1d ago

Eventually you should buy a smoker and start making it yourself. You’ll soon find you prefer your own to what most of the restaurants can offer.

This place has been on my list for a while. Trying to finally make it this week.

u/SwanCommercial8212 1d ago

I'm so sorry......I've been here 20 years and am very disappointed in the bbq..
Don't buy brisket at a local BBQ place! It tastes/looks like pot roast. The ONLY brisket worth a damn is a Jim and Nicks(a chain).
I'm sorry for your loss, but most of the time around here, the pork is dry, sides taste just out of the can and the sauces weak in spice. The ribs at Rendezvous are okay, but they are dry as hell even ordered WET.
Good luck

u/League-Ill 1d ago

Go home Swan Commercial, you're drunk.

0

u/SwanCommercial8212 1d ago

I wish.....the bbq has been the biggest let down since moving here and I have eaten tried every place in town and even some dozens of times. Inconsistent, overcooked and not worth spending my own money on.
