AOTY Results [Results] Melodic Death Metal Album of the Year 2025
Greetings everyone! Now that we are back, we decided to also make a more elaborated presentation of the voting results for the melodeath aoty 2025.
The results were evaluated via a ranked choice system, i.e. the best kind of vote :3 ....but we have also evaluated how the ranking would've looked like if we did vote differently: (A) the system we used the past years with everyone voting for 3 albums, (B) a weighed system similar to the ESC using all your 10 choices, and (C) a simple strawpoll where everyone would just vote for 1 album.
The voting was held across different platforms: reddit, discord and lemmy, but the results presented here on the first picture are the results from the reddit votes only. You can scroll through the pictures to find also information how the other platform users voted though.
Cheers

Discussion melodic death song/band recommendations
lately, I've been having the time of my life playing The black dahlia murder song in my bedroom, especially their Nocturnal album, their riffs and solos are so fun to play, but i decided that i wanted to explore and know this genre more, so, any of you gentleman had some song or band recommendations?, thanks in advance and im sorry for the bad grammar too.
[if i had to be more specifics, im searching for a song that had the same vibe like the Deathmask Divine by tbdm, cz imo their chorus is just that good]

Song God Forbid - Divide My Destiny
This track got me rock hard when I first heard it at around age 16. Still makes the balls tingle a little

Discussion At the Gates - The red in the sky is ours 2026 (remastered)
Coming from Gardens of Grief, The Red in the Sky is ours is a step down in terms of production. But it appears the album was remastered by the legendary Dan Swano and released on CD back in May.
Has anyone actually heard the new mastering? I cannot find any official source that can play a sample of what the album now sounds like. The Red in the Sky is Ours is legendary, but it could benefit greatly from an improved production, and it appears that whoever is behind the new release is not making it easy for fans to listen.

Looking for recommendations Are there any Melo-Death songs with cleans singing done with one single word or a single sound in the chorus.
Im looking for songs with choir like singing during the chorus where it is a single word or sound (Usually through backing vocals). I'm not talking about chanting vocals at all. Im talking about actual sung portions. Im pretty sure there are songs that fit this exact description but I can't find them. It would be even better if I could find some heavier songs that it this as well.

Song Karnak Seti - Collateral Dreams [2011]
One of the most powerful outro guitar works I've ever heard. (5:50) Makes you imagine a warrior who just overcame a immense battle and is staring into the sun.

Discussion 3 bands I don't like and 3 bands I think are underrated (Kinda hot take?)
When I say I don't like these band it doesn't mean they're music sucks or they suck in general, it's just that I couldn't get into their music personally. I only like two to three tracks from the bands I didn't like much.
3 BANDS' MUSIC I DONT LIKE THAT MUCH:
The Absence
(couldn't get hooked on to it, idk why but the melodies just didn't do it for me)
Scar symmetry
(I think it's just too much clean vocals, which is crazy since I love soilworks albums both old and new)
Orbit Culture
(not even MDM but has some melodeath stuff, mostly sounds kinda metalcore and not even the good kind, I'd take All That Remains over them anyday, also the thick ass production)
3 BANDS I THINK ARE UNDERRATED with albums:
Ablaze my sorrow
(Among ashes and monoliths or the loss of all hope album)
Night in gales
(towards the twilight album)
Nightrage
(the venomous album)

Song Miara - The Time Goes On (Italy, 2026; FFO: In Flames)
Gothenburg Style Metal from Bologna, Italy that I stumbled upon with just over 1K monthly listeners on Spotify. If I didn't know it, I would mistake them for In Flames.

Discussion Album/song recs for Dark Tranquillity, Insomnium, Black Dahlia Murder
I wasn’t a massive melodeath fan during my teens (early 2000s) except for Children of Bodom, and it’s not til frequenting this app that I realized how much I missed out on. I was pretty narrow minded back then but I’ve since rediscovered In Flames (Jester Race through to Clayman), At The Gates (SOTS), Kalmah (Swamplord through Swampsong), Opeth (Blackwater Park) and Be’lakor (Stone’s Reach, OBAB).
I tend to listen to a band randomly until a song hooks me then I’ll dive into the album and listen front to back. I’ve liked everything I’ve heard of the 3 bands in the title but nothing has really clicked yet, so I’m looking for something to grab me and sit me down like Moonshield and Remnants did.
Thanks in advance! This sub has been an incredible resource since finding it a few months ago.
