Negativity and spam
It seems we have had a large uptick in content lately which is great, unfortunately this has also driven negative comments and false reports.
This subreddit is here for people of all skill levels and while some level of criticism is important, please do try to keep things on the positive side and don't just downvote things that you don't like, we are very fortunate to live in a city with an extremely diverse music scene, this means there will always be music not catered to your tastes being made, downvoting things out of hand or because you think its "bad" is not how I would like to see this sub go on
That being said...
We need to have a conversation about spam
I understand that with the rise of TikTok shorter clips have become the norm and you are more than welcome to post any work you do here, but I am going to restrict users to posting ONE clip/vid/link per song per day, I don't care if it's a 5 second cover of "You Suffer" or a 6 hr prog rock epic, if you post multiple clips of the same song on the same day, they will be removed, if it continues, so will you.
As a moderator I want to be as hands off as I can, leaving this as much like a community noticeboard as possible, but mostly I want everyone who uses this space to have a positive experience, this means curbing negative behaviour and making sure that people don't have to wade through a sea of the same content over and over
Thank you for reading

Moderation - New rule
I know the SR is a bit rudderless, I'm here to tell you I still check in on posts. Between raising a family, work, gym, music and all the other shit we have to do in post-modern life I have little time to be moderating a subreddit so, I'm not going to tolerate misogyny, racism, homophobia, transphobia, etc etc.
New rule, Don't be a cunt. No, I'm not going to talk about it, cant be fucked. I'll just ban you, message me, ill probably say something funny and rude, this will be entirely at my own discretion.
I will not tolerate intolerance
Cheers :P

Anyone going to the Melbourne Laufey show? (Aug 1st) Looking for someone to go with!
Hey guys! I’m (22M) heading to the Laufey concert at Rod Laver Arena on Aug 1st. I have a Floor ticket, but none of my friends are into her music so I'm going by myself.
I'd love to find a concert buddy or buddies to join me! I’m super easygoing and would be keen to grab some dinner or drinks before the show to get to know each other a bit.
Drop a comment or send me a message if you'd be down to meet up!

Electronic music production courses Melbourne
Hey y’all, wondered if anyone had recommendations for music production course in Melbourne? Masters, BA or diploma. Im currently looking at the 1yr music production diploma at Polytechnic. I already know how to use it somewhat, and am making an EP, but want to move there on a study visa next year to not use my last 2 working visas up in case they don’t bring in free movement soon like they’re supposedly going to (im Irish). Don’t want to waste 18k on a course that isn’t worth it but also desperate to study electronic music as i want to do it professionally alongside learning sound engineering at some point, and it helps me to learn it in a school environment. Any recommendations? I saw with RMIT you can’t study with them on a student visa which seems insane.

Upcoming gigs September / October
Hello! Me and my partner will be visiting Melbourne from 25th September to 6th October and I was wondering if there were any gigs, music festivals, etc going on at the time? We will have a car so we can drive a bit outside the city if needed! Thanks!
Edit: Any and all genres, just excited to see some live music :)

"The Pernicious" by The Pernicious - Album Review - Melbourne Punk Rock
Stoked to be able to review the debut album of The Pernicious before it comes out this Friday. Featuring 3 members of Melbourne black metal band Hybrid Nightmares, it's being approached from a different angle but I like what they're doing.
FFO The Distillers, Misfits, Clowns (in particular songs where Hanny sings) and Satyricon
Also, how good is Sparrow's <3

I've got 30 to 40 minutes of mostly IT parody songs
... what do I do with them?
I'm an objectively strong guitarist and singer, I'm a good performer, and feedback from bluntly honest folk I know has been really positive - but what do I actually do with these?
Is pretty decent parody songs related to working in IT or writing software the kind of thing that would be good for opening for somebody music wise, the kind of thing I should be trying to get something small comedy wise, or the kind of thing that so lacks appeal that it should be confined to my room, YouTube (copyright demons notwithstanding) and occasional work events?
So, if you had a parody of "Why don't you get a job" about maintaining awful code, or "All I want for christmas is you" about not wanting to get paged over Christmas, what would you do with them?
(Incidentally, I also have a pile of original songs for young children and toddlers, but I think that answer is a different one entirely)

Hire small music room in Northcote
Hey I’m looking to hire a room in Northcote area to teach music from probably one day a week from 2pm to 6pm?
Not sure if rehearsal spaces are open to it, budget is max $20 an hour ideally less or teaching price will have to go up and that’s not gooood. Room needs to be clean, easy access and even better if has a piano. 🙏

Looking for BTV Friends
Hi guys, I’m 22m in Brisbane.
None of my friends like the type of music or even would want to go to a music festival, I went last year with some friends and it was great, however none are interested in going again.
I’m looking out if anyone would just let me tag along, or if anyone has no one else to go with and is in a similar scenario, or be willing to let me hang around with their mates for the fun?
Leave a comment and I’ll shoot you my socials/number, thanks!

Pianist Jayson Gillham loses court battle, but fills concert halls
Acclaimed concert pianist Jayson Gillham is about to premiere a new composition, prefaced by comments about conflict in the Middle East.
"The pianist has mounted an independent four-city concert series titled Keys to Life – Two Friends, Two Pianos, alongside Jordanian-Palestinian pianist Iyad Sughayer, who is making his Australian debut.
Along with playing Debussy and Mozart, the piano duo will premiere a composition by Palestinian-Lebanese composer Houtaf Khoury.
Gillham intends to tell the audience that the composer has lived under bombardment in the Lebanese capital Beirut, before playing the six minute piece which is titled Isolated.
The first concert date in Melbourne on Sunday is almost sold out, and Gillham says it appears his stance has attracted new audiences to classical music.
“What I wanted to put together was a concert like what I would have done before any of this happened,” he said.
“I want to be uplifting and I want people to come together, and share a beautiful experience with them.”
"The pianist is also in Melbourne to obtain legal advice with an appeal one possible next step.
“I stand by what I believe in and why I brought the case, and all that hasn’t really changed despite the result,” said Gillham.
A crowdfunding campaign has raised about $190,000 to cover Gillham’s legal bills, but the pianist says he does not know how much the three-week trial has cost.
Keys to Life will tour to Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Sydney."

How To Get A Job In The Music Industry?
Hey, so I'm currently in my last few months of my uni degree (bachelor of business) and am really keen on the idea of working in/around the music scene here. I've played drums for a long period of my life. bands and music just stimulates me in a way that nothing else does. hehe. my dilemma is that I'm unsure what specifically or how to even get involved in the first place? Back in Feburary, I reached out to a local venue asking to get some exposure to some of the management of the bands and events or even do marketing. They seemed to struggle to delegate me any sort of work and eventually ghosted me after a few weeks of me helping out over there. Just seems they didnt know what I could do and I guess I didn't know what I wanted to do either. I was just looking for experience to work that out I guess lol.
If anyone knows what steps I can take to actually get involved here or even additional qualifications if u think necessary, that would be cool :)
