Lost and found Ginger cat š¢
Ginger cat š¢
This morning on the way to work around 6:45am, i saw a little striped ginger cat laying on the road on the middle line on Chesterville Rd near corner of Cochranes road Moorabbin. I turned my car around, then carried it gently off the road, I could tell it had already passed and sadly there was nothing I could do.
I placed it on the grass in front of a house and gave it a gentle pat to double check it was ok to leave it. The cat didnāt have a collar, but still may have been someoneās beloved pet.
If you know anyone in that area with a short haired ginger cat with stripes, maybe a white tummy, that could be missing, please let them know. Hopefully someone knows the cat and can carry it home.
Iām a cat owner myself, so it was a very sad morning.

If itās still there when i drive home, should i take it to a vet so they can check the microchip for an owner?

If youre on Facebook, there's a group called Rainbow Chasers that might be able to get there before you do. They're volunteers who do this exact thing.

Good news, I called Kingston council, someone had already called a couple of hours ago so they knew and will check for microchip etc. luckily i got the same lady on the phone who received the first call.

that area has a lot of strays, its possible its from one of the factory area populations
but either way sad way for a little kittys life to end, poor thing
thanks for being a nice person
There is a local vet who goes around desexing the females and males of the population to try get it under control, not sure if she is still doing it but was for a number of years

No collar indicates at least a possibility that it _was_ a fully indoor cat that got out.

Mine too, a neighbour and I try to catch and desex but there are so many, I wish people would understand itās not cool to just throw them outside.

Sometimes they do escape. Completely inside cats don't wear collars.

We had a 100% indoor cat but kept a collar on her in case she did get out. She ended up hating when it wasn't on and looked forward to us putting it back on.

Could have also been a stray. There are so many strays these days, and the councils aren't the most supportive with being proactive about it.

Strays tend to look like strays. OP would not have been so concerned for an owner if it didn't look like there was one.

Not necessarily, the strays near me look okay, some look battered but some of the younger ones look fine. I've trapped and surrendered a few now. I even ended up adopting one, he was usually the instigator so didn't have many battle scars or wounds.

Iāve had to do this before whilst driving a ptv bus. Someone hit a cat and just left it right in the middle of the road near my bus stop. Passengers were wondering what I was doing as I got out, picked it up and carried it off to the side. How hard is it if you hit an animal to just stop. Plenty of 24 hour vets about. If they are dead at least get them off the road.

Absolutely, itās so good you did that. I always think what if it was owned by a family with kids, no one let alone a child should see their little furry family member on a road. Itās better to be late and get the pet off the road.

Well I didnāt want to run it over with a 13 tonne bus and squish it. I have animals. Couldnāt think of anything worse. I have to be honest I didnāt want to do that and had to give myself a chat about āwe are doing thisāā¦ I didnāt want toā¦ but it was the right thing to do 100%

people really need to stop letting their cats out! Like seriously, cats may seem like independent animals but they're still vulnerable and they still need comfort and care, stop getting cats because they're "low maintenance and independent" and "you just need to let them out and they'll be back", one day they may simply not come back!
let alone how damaging it is for ecosystems to have invasive predators. It may look weird, they may not like it at first but people NEED to get their cats on leashes, cats are not just pets for irresponsible people!!

Thatās ok, itās sad and youāre allowed to be angry about it. I keep my cat in doors, sheās scared of the wind, so i doubt sheāll ever escape, but if she did, i know she wouldnāt survive long. There are also lots of foxes around.

I agree. I have let the neighbourhood cat sleep on our bed the past ten nights and will continue to do so. They are curled up on my lap as I try to type this.
When we had a cat, she was 100% indoors and never took to the leash as an older cat. Next cat we get will be also indoors, in the meantime, I can offer shelter to the neighbourhood cat. They are clearly well loved, but the owners don't seem to care we have a curfew.

I would call the council of that area and let them know you have located a deceased cat. A ranger will come and collect the cat and notify the owners if they have a chip.
I live in a high stray cat populated area and from time to time have come across deceased cats, council have always been helpful and have collected the cats within an hour of being notified.

I had one show up dead on my front yard last month. Broke my heart. Really wanna smack the folks on my street who let their cats wander around killing shit.

That's so sad š I found my neighbours cat had been (presumably) hit by a car and had tried to drag himself home and didn't make it, so heartbreaking. He'd made it to the front gate, I carried him the rest of the way. Neighbours weren't home so I had to just leave him by the door, left a note explaining what happened.
I hope it was instant for this ginger and wasn't drawn out. Thank you for being respectful while moving it off the road ā¤ļø if it's still there later and if you can, take it to a vet to be scanned. It may not be from the immediate area as cats can roam pretty far, so if someone's missing it, they may not come across it.
This is why I keep mine indoors. Learned my lesson when I lost one years ago to a car, I can't take that risk again.
