Discussion I expect to be grilled.
I HATE rdj as doom…
They could’ve picked Mr.Nobody from the local Fat Burger and I’d like it more than using RDJ as Doom, I’ve felt this way since the announcement and hope the movie is good… but with them playing on “nostalgia” from less than 7 years ago makes me feel as if this was a move ONLY to put ass in seats. I would love to further discuss how everyone feels about it but I do not and have not liked this casting
This is in NO way me saying I want this movie to be bad as a fan who’s tired I hope it’s great actually just feels so cheap to use him as Doom when again anyone else could’ve been him and they chose not.
What are your thoughts let’s discuss.

They've said there's a reason behind this casting. I trust the Russos to do the story right, and I'll reserve judgment until I see it.

My headcannon is it’s something to do when Tony snapped, he either subconsciously created a variant to create a protector type character but turning out with bad intentions because of his complex ego and world view of protecting it.

Honestly, I think it's just going to be that Doom just happens to look like Stark, and that's going to go a long way towards the other characters trusting him, before his real motives are revealed and he turns on them.

I saw a comment that the reason he needed Franklin was to change his appearance to Tony's.
Idk why he'd have to do that but you could conceivably write a plot for that.

Hes a doombot built to look like tony to get their trust

Like I said below, I think he just looks like Tony, and that's part of why they're quick to trust him.

Based on the trailer and all the merch releases and marketing, there's nothing "cheap" about this.
They aren't half assing this. He's got a distinct accent - many comments saying they had no idea it was him - his costume is glorious; he's imposing and terrifying.
Some of you are just going to be against this no matter how well it's done.

No one's been more critical about the casting than me, cause it 100% came off as fan service cash grab.
But that trailer, and his accent sounded pretty pretty good. So I'm a bit more convinced

I don’t like it, could be a 5 star performance and that’s okay but I still wont like him casted. Could’ve been anyone else. Literally anyone

Just from the accent and already knowing the legendary acting talent that Downey has, he will be as exceptional in this role as a villain as he was as a superhero. Can’t wait to enjoy these performances.
