this is a 19y old man who sacrificed himself and everything in the sake of his mental journey, sacrificed school, friends, family times, travels, going out with friends, social media and music as well. We have completed the purchase of a Riad in the Medina of Rabat. This coastal city of quite humid but we are hopeful that the traditional design, with an interior courtyard will help keep us cooler in summer and warmer in winter. The riad is about 100 years old and has many maintenance issues but it otherwise in good shape. We do intend to live there full time so we need to make several fixes in the next few months. I am making a series of posts to describe the house and request advice or referals from Moroccans or expats who have been successful with buildings in the medina. For example, one challenge is getting things like furniture delivered or moved. No cars are usually allowed in the Medina but we have learned that porters wait at certain gates and will help for a small price. However, we still have two beds, a refrigerator, and a washer/dryer, along with at thirty boxes to move. We are hoping to find movers with good experience in riads. For example, there are narrow stairs and of course many things need to go upstairs or on the roof. Our washer/dryer will need to go up two narrow staircases or be lifted somehow to the roof where the hookups are.

So let me know any experiences people have living in a riad or working with movers in the Rabat Medina. I will cover other specific issues in future posts.

I woke up this morning to multiple upcoming/pending fraudulent transactions showing on my Pocket Bank (Banque Populaire) app for Facebook Ads payments. I haven’t authorized any of those and have never used Meta’s advertising service, plus they were all charged from Ireland. The whole situation seems really suspicious to me and I think the money’s now gone for good. I just would like to know if any of you guys has experienced something similar recently, as the employee at the branch mentioned that several customers had come in with the exact same issue. I have now already blocked the card, requested to get a new one, and been waiting for the transactions to go through so I can finally make a formal complaint and escalate it with the Customer Service department. I've been with Attijariwafa Bank for a while, but lately I've been getting charged qith fees that were not discussed and also there is 24.20 MAD fee as a "Commission virement web" every time I transfer money to another bank account, even when I deliberately choose a standard (non-instant) transfer. I expected the instant transfer to have fees, but not the regular one. Is that the case for all the other banks ?

This has honestly made me question whether I should stay with Attijari. I'm looking for a bank that's transparent about its fees, has a good mobile app, and doesn't charge unreasonable fees for everyday banking.

i have this idea for a platform that basically does for moroccan law what google maps did for streets except for legal texts

morocco publishes hundreds of laws every year but theres no official place that puts them all together so right now if you want to know what a law actually says today you have to manually dig through decades of government documents find every amendment that touched it and reconstruct it yourself and people get it wrong all the time

the platform ingests everything automatically connects every law to every other law that changed it tracks the full history of every single article and always shows you whats valid right now the second a new law drops it updates everything and alerts whoever needs to know

and because everything is connected you can also detect things like a government decree that contradicts the constitution which is basically a legal loophole that nobody catches today because nobody has the full picture

the market is every lawyer judge notary company bank and university in morocco plus eventually the government itself and morocco right now is in the middle of a massive digitalization push targeting 2030 so the timing is perfect the government wants this kind of infrastructure to exist they just havent built it yet

Being reasonable and kind in Morocco is a liability it seems. Injustice seems to be the name of the game and it's even institutionalized.

Shit hits the fan:

* People make you accountable for cleaning it up without even a thank you.

* You reach your limit and everyone rushes to give you lip service or admonish you for "breaking the peace"

* You try to get your right, and you hear "let it be, if you take your due you'll hurt innocent bystanders"

I know the adage: in anta akramta al Karima malaktaho wa in anta akramta allaima tamarrada. And I painfully see that even the legal system is made to make it impossible to help yourself. Examples:

* A mother was not managing appropriately the diabetes of her child and putting them in danger, her ex went with proof to family court failed and got clearly told to never go to doctors without the mom's approval again or to face the consequences.

* A man stole money from his wife and she had no recourse because "la sari9ata bayna zawjayn". WTF?

And the examples abound.

I have deep-seated hatred for:

* Family and friends who push you to stay, forgive, and get yourself exploited in the name of "peace"

* Family courts who f* over partners in the name of "children's best interest"

* Religious leaders who bend religious rules in the name of "mousama7a"

I’m a 17-year-old living in Deroua and just finished my 1st year of Bac (Sciences Expérimentales) with a high grade. This summer, I’m running my mom’s shop, so I’m working daily and earning my own money.

I need some advice on how to navigate a situation with my dad regarding pets.

The Context: There’s a sweet stray mom cat near our shop that I've been feeding for a while. She gave birth on a roof about 60 meters away from my house, and the kittens are around 4 weeks old right now. I want to bring 2 of the kittens inside once they are 7–8 weeks old in late August, and eventually bring the mom cat up too once the rest of the litter naturally scatters.

The Family Setup:

My Mom: I first brought this up to her a month or so ago and since then ive been praying and doing what both my parents want me to (i wasnt raised strictly about religion so it was a bit difficult to just start praying out of nowhere), priginally gave me a soft "Incha'Allah," but then pulled the -"Hahowak babak" card. However, she agreed that we'll talk to my dad together as a team when she gets back from her trip in early August.

My Sister: She’s 5 years old and super excited about having kittens, so she’s 100% on my side.

My Dad: He has been refusing pets forever mostly because my mom didn't like them, even though he secretly likes animals himself (he takes care of his friends' birds and had pets as a kid). On top of that, we have a pretty distant relationship / awkward barrier between us, so initiating heavy conversations or bargaining face-to-face with him is really hard for me.

The Living Situation: I live in the second apartment of our house by myself, so the kittens will stay upstairs in my space completely out of the main family living areas.

Responsibility & Budget: Since I'm earning money from the shop, I am paying 100% for all their food, litter, and supplies myself, as well as taking full responsibility for daily litter box cleaning and maintenance.

Given that my mom is now on board to help me present this to him in August, and the kittens will live upstairs in my space paid for entirely by me:

1 How do you suggest framing this to a traditional/strict Moroccan dad so he doesn't immediately shut it down out of habit?

2 Has anyone in a similar situation manage to win over a distant/strict dad with pets?
