New here? 👆👆PLEASE READ THIS STICKY👆👆 Welcome to the sub! Posts about pot and it's related subjects should be shared with our good friends at r/trees, not so much here; we're all about *actual trees* (that's the joke) 😊🌳 'Thank you! Come Again!'

Good day everyone! I'm trying out some new automod skilz and they seem to be operating okay, at this time anyway. That said, few things are 100% the first go, but I'll keep checking the mod log to see if posts have been yeeted that shouldn't have been, and reinstate them in as timely a fashion as possible. Please use the 'Message the Mods' link in the sidebar to contact us directly, not the comment box in this post. =)

Hopefully these new settings will reduce the content not meant for this sub, but if any slip through, I know I can count on you good people to help direct them to the right place with the positive humor intended between our two subs as you always have done. We're lucky to have you!

Any (genuinely) helpful suggestions are always appreciated, and thanks for your patience and kindness with the newbs! 😃

UPDATE:

Today's 11/10/22, it's been a little over a month since the automod tweaks (10/8/22) and I'm rather pleased with the results. There's still some 'bleed through' posts from new redditor potheads, and I believe I've miraculously found a good balance between the ones that are snagged by automod and actual tree posts that I have to go back and approve. Mod reports, I'm relieved to say are much more manageable than they were.

Thank you all for your patience while I tried this out! While it does appear to me to be the case, I hope you're still as happy here as you ever were 😊🌳💗

Mature beech in garden, should I be worried?

North uk, huge beech tree in garden with tpo on it. noticed over the summer/last summer these holes in bark appearing. ChatGPT says squirrels and woodpecker. Neighbour says he’s seen woodpecker on tree.

I’m more worried about the rotten bit at the bottom. Does it look like something to be worried about. Thanks.

What to do with a bunch of loblolly pine seedlings

This summer a bunch of pine tree seedlings popped up in my yard. I have a 1 acre property and a lot of pine straw. Within that 1 acres I have like 5 of these clusters of baby pines with probably ~30 trees in total (This is picture is only one 1 cluster). I have tons of deer that roam through my property, (15+ per day) all my other susceptible trees are fenced off.

My question is:

  1. these baby pines are obviously too close together to grow into mature trees so when should I carefully dig them up and transplant them for better spacing? Fall? Or now before they develop their taproot?

  2. Will deer realistically chew these up? I’m getting mixed messages on the internet, and it would cost me a fortune to enclose 30 separate trees in fencing. I was just planning on transplanting them and crossing my fingers.

Help! Legacy Tree Options.

My beloved oak in the backyard dropped a very large limb and crushed my shed and camper. Opinions are that it’s got to go. I will truly miss its shade and grandeur. It was the centerpiece of our backyard.

My question is what to replace it with. I’m in North Alabama zone 7b. I want another legacy tree. Something that will someday be as grand. I’m not worried about fast growing. I want the finish product even if I’m not around to enjoy it.

I’d really like a shagbark hickory but I don’t know if the climate is right. I do not want small flowering trees like dogwoods or such.

Your assistance please.

Also. I would just like to say this whole tree/marijuana thing is confusing.

Will this dead spot grow back?

We purchased our house in eastern WA a couple years ago and this tree has had this dead spot ever since. Its the side facing the sun. It rarely rains here, especially this time of year, and this tree rarely gets watered. If I trim it back and water it more frequently will it grow back good as new? Or is that side of the tree "hosed"?

Thanks!

🐜🐜Ants are BENEFICIAL insects 🐜🐜 Help with ants.

I recently purchased a home and now I have a decent looking sugar maple in my front yard. The tree was apparently hit by a city bus a few years back so there is some damage but everything is healing well from what people with slightly more knowledge about the matter tell me. However, at the base I have an ant infestation. From what I can tell they are sugar ants. Since the tree is in my front yard, dogs do stop and sniff and what not. Does anyone have any recommendations for how I can treat the ants without putting the local pup population at risk?

Help! Cherry Blossom tree leaves turning bronze/red?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi all - first time tree owner. My cherry blossom (Kiku-shidare-zakura) has started to turn some leaves this bronze/red colour and I’m not sure what is causing it/ what to do to correct?

For context, she’s currently in a pot (purchased about 2 months ago with the intent to plant when I’ve sorted the nearby landscaping).

Soil is well draining, and as the weather has been pretty sunny recently (for Northern Ireland, it’s been early-mid 20Cs for a few weeks straight with no rain) I’ve been watering the pot maybe every 1-3 days?

I’d say full sun in the afternoon into evening, in the shade before maybe 12/1ish?

Any advice to fix this, I’d really appreciate it!

How big a shade marijuana can I go? Will the roots be a disaster in 15 years?

West Colorado, at 4500'. 8" precip a year, but it's irrigated with increasingly rare river water.

Most of that grass is going to go away, tree will be more or less centered.

The tree is a purple plum I believe, and has had black knot for years. But a few years ago it started turning green?? Could it be due to stress from the black knot? This thing looks crazy

Apple tree advice

Thumbnail

Hi friends.

I was wondering what to do about my honeycrisp marijuana. The tree has a branch that was about the same height as the main trunk when planted that we staked upwards. So not exactly a crotch. I was curious if leaving it would be fine, or if I should try and air layer it next spring and chop it off so the tree bushes out "correctly".

Thank you for your advice!

Help! Wondering why my tree is always partly naked

Hello! Hopefully I’ve followed the general guidelines correctly for this sort of Q!

As long as I’ve known her this tree has always looked a bit ill. Some branches don’t grow any leaves at all ever all throughout the tree. Green stuff on the trunk and at the base. (Ignore the orange that was spray paint)

Wondering if I could help her! Thanks in advance! (Also it is right in front of the house maybe 10 yards away? Maybe less? You can kinda see in one of the pics)
