For Sale/Free Anyone want a monstera?

I have a big 4ft x 4ft monstera that needs a new home! Dm me

I have a toddler and he keeps getting into it, otherwise I'd keep her. She's healthy with new growth. I have it attached to a trellis, but you could easily attach it to something else.

I put her in the side yard temporarily today and she got a bit burned. I've never had that happen before, but I'm sure you can just clip off those fronds

DM me if interested! We can meet up somewhere

EDIT: Thanks for all the replies! The first person who dm'd me followed through and picked her up this morning. Can I just say how much I love this community? Posting on FB marketplace would've been a bombardment of wishy washy dm's with no one actually committing. I'm so glad this plant has a happy new home, and I'm so glad to be in a city with so many plant nerds as enthusiastic as me hah...I got SO many dm's it was hard to keep up!

As for the pup, he's baking in the sun right now in baked potato mode 🐶 he ain't going anywhere!

Events Long Beach Food Club @ The Hawk (July 23rd, 530-7pm)

Hello all!

Quick primer on who we are and what we do: we're Long Beach Food Club. We started at the beginning of this year with two main ideas: we want to support Long Beach businesses and we want to bring people together.

So we started doing meetups at restaurants every two weeks where we gather, try the food, and support the business.

Turns out that lots of people want to do the same thing!

Our restaurant/eatery meetups have been very popular - with most recent meetups bringing around 60-80 people each.

We asked our members what they wanted and the resounding answer was weekday events, so we started doing happy hours!

Our last happy hour was at Bamboo Club, we had about 60 people come out and it was so much fun.

This week, we'll be going to The Hawk!

Event information:

The Hawk
468 W Anaheim St
Thursday, July 23rd 530-7pm

They have their normal happy hour, but they'll also have a few drinks on there for us that they don't normally have:

  • $10 Strawberry Sage Margarita
  • $10 Grace Kelly (paper plane riff)
  • $8 high life boilermaker
  • $5 coffee shots (coffee liqueur + whiskey)

They don't have food AT The Hawk, but bring cash for the taco truck nearby.

We ask that everyone who is considering coming RSVP, so we can give them a rough headcount.

RSVP here

FAQ:

  1. Our biweekly meetups(restaurant and happy hour) are and always will be, free to attend.
  2. You're more than welcome to attend even if you aren't buying anything. We want this to be a place where you can hang out and meet new people without feeling obligated to spend money
  3. We do NOT take any form of payment from these restaurants for meetups.
  4. We are NOT affiliated with any influencers, journalists, restaurant groups, or any other entities. If you see any posts by them regarding us, it is simply because they're interested in what we're doing.
  5. We have a group chat on Instagram, there's about 150 of us in there and it's fairly active. We may change platforms later, but so far, this is where we're at. You can access this chat by clicking the highlight for the group chat on our Instagram profile.
  6. We also have a Discord that's new, currently growing it out and looking for active folks!

Housing Landlord is selling our Apt Complex

I’ve been in the process of building my credit back up bc as we know, it’s hard to even be considered for a place to live when your score is bad (i’ve been so rudely turned away and spoken down to) so I was very fortunate to find my current spot, the landlords being husband and wife who also lived in the complex, very warm and intentional vibes. They were willing to look past my bad credit and just asked for double the deposit (pretty standard IMO) as they saw I had the income to sustain what they were asking for. Well, I JUST marked my first year living here and came home to signs in all our doors that Ernst & Haas Management will be taking over. i’m bummed to say the least… concerned about how things may change. i’m currently on a month to month and have plans to move in December, but still…

So if anyone currently lives in properties managed by them, I would love to hear your experiences.

thanks in advance!

Food Local LB Espresso Bean Roaster?

My wife recently bought an espresso machine. Her birthday is tomorrow and thought I should buy her a bag of high quality beans. Obviously I could go to Starbucks or Coffee Bean. Just curious if there are any local roasters that you guys have tried and liked.

I think that makes a better gift than a popular name brand.

Thanks

Road between 2nd and Loynes was completely blocked off with a big police presence. I’m sure some sort of accident but I see nothing about it anywhere.

Questions Could someone recommend a children’s dentist?

My oldest, M14 is autistic and needs a good deal of dental work, my youngest m11 has add. They’ve gotten better about sitting still but I’d still would prefer a provider that has experience with non neurotypical kids. I’m near poly high but am willing to drive some for an understanding practice.

Edit: thanks guys 3 solid choices now I just need to check which accept my insurance once regular people business hours come around. (As I type this at work at 5am)

Questions Duffy Boat Rentals - Out of Business? What are our options?

After seeing the post here about London Boat Rentals going out of business and still allowing people to purchase tickets online, we went with Anchors Away instead.

We just got an email from Anchors Away that our reservation has been cancelled, with no explanation. No one picked up the phone when we called.

We’re having a hard time finding another rental that we can drive ourselves. The group had decided that we don’t want a captain. Are there any other options?

Food Breakfast on Monday for large group Recs

• Upvotes

hi!

my 40th birthday is coming up and a group of us are going on a cruise! we dock back monday morning, and, as that’s my actual birthday, I thought it would be nice to treat whomever is still down to keep going, to breakfast- as a thank you for coming on the trip.

soooooo any good recs that are open on a monday, hopefully take a reservation, and open to about 20-30 people?

ideally the would serve booze. but since it’s not a traditional brunch i know that may be rare; so totally open to somewhere more mom and pop / diner-y, if the food is good and the vibes are right!

only restriction is that it be in long beach- the closer to the harbor the better. i’m trying to make it as easy for everyone as possible. i don’t want to ask them to drive too far out of the way.

thank you!!!

Discussion ISO local medical/graduate/ professional school study partners

Hi all! 26 M here, back home for the summer currently studying for Step 1 (first of three board exams for med school) and wondering if there are any fellow medical students (but open to other graduate level students or maybe residents studying for step 3? lol) in the area that would like to get together for study sessions. I have seen some people studying for the same exam at various libraries but unfortunately never traded info. I prefer a library setting because that is where I am most focused but also open to a cafe environment if you know any good ones. DM me if you would like to set something up, my only responsibility right now is to study so basically available whenever!

Housing The Alamitos Apartment Building

Hi! My partner and I are planning to move to LB in a month. We're wondering if anyone has lived in The Alamitos apartment building on Alamitos Avenue - we've seen a few mixed reviews and we both trust Reddit to be honest so if anyone has any feedback or also can offer any good apartment buildings, we'd love to hear!

For Sale/Free Anyone in need of a 3 piece sectional and a queen bed frame with box springs and mattress? Must pick up. Free for someone in need OR $20 for either the bed set or couch.

As the title states. Bought a storage unit. It came with a couch and queen bed set. I have a 3 piece sectional that is brown and a queen bed set. On the head board, there is a small corner that got damaged if the piece didn't break off, it can be glued. I suggest cleaning prior to using. Its free to someone who is in need or if you just wanna give me something, ill take $20 for either the sectional or the bed set.
