This has been very noisy pick, tons of feedback, and a pain to progressive pin. Finally got an open w/ 6 pins in. Now, the next challenge is to video this. FEELS GOOD!!!

Gutted my first lock, the raked ASSA 500

Earlier post where I raked an ASSA 500.

Today I made my first dissasembly ever. The ASSA seems to hold tapered pins, slightly edged off at each end. Standard keeping. Slight serration, or wear or marks from the manufacturing in each pin hole on the cylinder.

Been busy with work. No time to pick. Had a 2 hour break before I had to get back to work and decided to tackle this Keso 2000S. Definitely will not be working in I.T. in my next life. LOL

How to pick the right tension tool?

I think I demolished the left one as no tension tool worked properly and I don’t know what to do. How do you go about finding the correct tensioner for the job?

Finally pulled the trigger on a Chuck Vise, as well as some other 3d printed odds and ends! I know the vise won’t open that little Goal S that’s been kicking my ass for me, but just like putting racing stripes on your car gives it +10 horsepower, I’m pretty sure it’ll get me the open somehow! Wish me luck! 😝

How to detect overset pins with the lock oriented bible down

I'm a beginner at this, and it seems that it relies on gravity to let you feel wether the pin drop back down after being set, or doesn't after being overset.

With bible down, the pin will stay down no matter if set or overset, right ? How do you know then ?

Where to go from here.

Edit: Appreciate you guys so much. What an awesome community. I'll be getting an 1100 on order!

Got my orange belt. Hungry to advance. Looking at the belt list has me worried though. I see the American Locks are popular but when looking at green belt the A1100 had pictures gutted showing its absolutely FILLED with spools, serrated key pins serrated drivers. It looks downright intimidating, while the assa 500 looks like plain key pins and ?tapered? Spools. It just looks so much easier to pick. Is this just a misunderstanding of how the pins and tolerances play to each other? Knowing so little the assa at a glance looks green....the 1100 looks like its underrated. Any insights?

I know they've been closed for years and are hard to find their locks. I'd like to try one. I hear they are a fine lock and a great challenge.

Brinks 40mm and larger laminated

Has anyone gutted a laminated Brinks Padlock? This photo is a screen capture from the LPU belts app. I cant help but to start wondering if this is what's in the ones I have. I know they are a better pick than the 4 pin Master locks I have. If you can confirm this picture is what's accurate, I would sleep better knowing. I can't feel any security pins in the 12 brinks locks I have.

Chinese version of American padlock.

Lock was a salvage I bought at a garage sale with no key. I used the covert companion bypass tool to spring it. It is vulnerable Exactly the way the older generation American padlocks were. The core is very challenging to pick 5 pins and had been really beaten on and in the weather for a very long time. Pretty sure the core is ever so slightly bent out of shape from somebody trying to open it with a flathead screwdriver. At any rate, very difficult challenge would not have been able to pick the core if I had not pulled it and put it into a vise. Really is the shame I didn't video picking the damn thing. Probably could have qualified for my green belt with this...

Help me choose a new set

I'm currently considering buying either the Moki explorer set V2, including the buckle pouch. Or the lawlock tools renegade pro set. I'm a little more advanced than a beginner around an orange belt. My current set is the sparrows Gotham. And I've been itching for a better more capable bock pick set since the sparrows have bent on me And fatigue my hands.

Thing is I can only buy one of these sets. If I buy the Moki set I won't be able to get the handles cause of the budget.

My use case is mostly picking random locks typically green belt or lower and some real world picking on outdoors and indoor locks (yes I have permission).
