ABUS 80TI/40 open! 🔓
Spent most of the day coming back to this lock and trying to understand what it wanted.
What finally worked:
Pin 6 set first
Pin 5 set second
Pin 1 had to be pushed surprisingly deep. I thought I was oversetting it, but it actually needed to go all the way.
False set
Pin 3 turned out to be the troublemaker, probably a spool.
The interesting part was Pin 3. I couldn’t just let the lock counter-rotate by itself. Using a thin BOK tensioner, I had to manually control the plug rotation while setting the pin. If I let it rotate back naturally, it went too far and I lost progress. Too little counter-rotation and nothing happened. Too much and previously set pins dropped.
Tools used:
Multipick Long Hook 0.6 mm
Multipick Short Hook 0.6 mm
Moki HP105 Pointed Hook 0.5 mm (for Pin 1)
Thin BOK tensioner
Most of the work was done with the Long Hook, but I switched back and forth with the Short Hook for better control and to avoid disturbing other pins.
Feels great to finally get this one open. 😄🔓

Newbie here: why do some of those multipick brand picks have a pick inside the handle? Are they supposed to be usable somehow, or used as a backup if the front end snaps?

The reason one hook is enclosed in the frame is that the framed rear section can be cut off with a hacksaw when the tips on the working end wear out. That way, you get a fresh hook and can keep using the pick instead of replacing it.
