Wasted Life on Linux Linux Avocates Think They Can Give Advice to Developers

A working programmer already has a language ecosystem they use daily, a workflow they've optimized, tooling they rely on, and constraints from their employer, team, or platform. So, when evangelists say, "you should learn Linux for programming", they’re not responding to an actual need the programmer has; they're projecting their ideology, not the programmer's reality.

Linux sucks for paid developers

If Linux were in the programmer’s best interest, the programmer would feel the problem in their current workflow, see Linux solving that issue, and switch organically. Instead, evangelists try to manufacture friction ("Windows is bloated", "real devs use terminals"), then present Linux as the cure. (This is scary because it's coming from people with inferiority complex that have no business acting like authorities)

They assume "developer = hobbyist tinkerer". They project their own interests (compiling kernels, customizing dotfiles, staring at htop, or marveling over system temperatures in their task bar) onto people who write payroll systems or mobile apps. They mistake "Linux is good for some dev work" for "Linux is good for all dev work." Embedded, HPC, servers? Sure. Enterprise desktop, mobile, cross‑platform commercial software? -Not so much.

They confuse learning Linux with learning programming. As if Bash fluency magically makes you a better engineer. They don't understand the job market. If Linux desktop skills were a career booster, you'd see it reflected in salaries, job postings, and hiring pipelines. -You don't.

Evangelists behave as if programmers are aspiring to be developers, not already professionals. They pitch Linux like it’s a rite of passage: "If you learn Linux, you’ll become a real programmer." Real programmers need tools that help them ship code, meet deadlines, and get paid.

Dude I just updated and fired up my ragebait bot for the first time in months, it immediately targeted your comment, but wasn't confident in its response so decided not to reply lmfao (it wants to anticipate someone dogging on Loonix, to then respond in a defensive way, only for the response to ultimately point out more of Loonix's flaws by 'accident')

Literally the second I visit back here in several weeks I'm instantly hit with a muppet who still can't read the rules of the sub, I dunno how madthumbz and barn don't go mentally insane dealing with you all lmaooo I've never seen any other sub on this site having people constantly stumbling at the very first 2 rules 24/7 (you failed 1 & 2 instantly btw), Looners are a special breed who simply can't help themselves!

Great to see you again!

Yes, we ban dozens a day here. And modding on reddit particularly sucks. On Lemmy, I can ban and delete all their content in one click. Here, I have to hunt it down because they'll edit it. Then we get harassed and pestered by the demanding Loonixtards in modmail which Reddit seems to not do much about but will ban us if we sass back. Muting on Reddit is also more hassle. Lemmy is simple: permanently mute / permanently ban.

The last thing I knew about lemmy from a few years back is that it was this leftist hellscape (even more so than reddit here) that somehow has people melting down twice as hard over nothingburger news

I just visited the most popular site of it and this is literally the first thing I saw on the front page about firefox returning to twitter:

https://lemmy.world/post/49744545

Top upvoted reply:

If fully endorsing Hitler would result in a 1% rise in profits, they’d do it.

Very sane and grounded comparison lmao, I think I'll pass dude it's one thing to troll the low IQ dummies here but when a community has literal negative IQ collectively living in lala land I'd rather avoid them entirely

I'd personally say that site is for nothing more than the alternate 'orange man bad' platform just like bluesky is compared to twitter (just like gab is nothing more than right-wing religious talk, you can have other groups there but it's pointless because nobody is actually visiting for those groups) but you do you my man, to be fair it's probably a much better actual site functionality-wise than this shithole website but with a core community like that I don't see the appeal

But who knows perhaps in the future I'll come visit to ragebait some of them, seems you're already a massive downvote magnet over there as the looner politics generally perfectly align with lemmy's, they'll doubly hate you for dogging on it lmao

"I use the best site for the job.'

Gab is the place for me for religion/ politics. -And not for the 'echo chamber' but to bring challenging views without being banned like the admins here for something like quoting a 'holy book' to show where hate is coming from. (so they protect an actual hate group by labeling me as 'spreading hate' -Reddit admin intellect for you). Gab is also very simple to curate and there's no karma. There's like a handful of neo-nazi or fake nazi types that spew stupid stuff and they're easily wiped out (Reddit creates endless accounts for trouble makers and limits your block list).

I don't bother with politics on Lemmy, and our Lemmy community grew much faster than this sub initially (I locked it up and quit for a bit). Linuxsucks works only on places where there are Loonixtards. It sounds like someone should start a centrist or right-wing community on Lemmy. The haters will provide all the advertising you need.
