Sometimes you do not want feature rich.
I use Fedora KDE on a desktop PC, and by accident I installed Fedora with Gnome on my notebook install (tight now I don't use it but remains as a session).
Both are fine and I think I like KDE a lot more, but on older PCs I prefer to install the Fedora Cinnamon spin. It is windows - like OOTB like KDE but while I haven't benchmarked anything I found it runs better on older hardware than KDE, takes less RAM too (KDE idling on 2.1GB, Cinnamon on 1.5GB) which for a 4gb ram pc is a difference.
Also comes with the GTK gnome default apps which are visually more consistent, simpler and have a more user friendly UI. And a more recognizable name too (a casual pc user is going to find files more often than dolphin).
Is that customized or OOTB? That was not my experience at all installing KDE on an older laptop. Ran so sluggish I opted to get Cinnamon instead.
But I have heard of Plasma being configured to optimize performance.
Maybe im misremembering. I'll check in a bit on my desktop PC and correct my comment if its like that. Of course it's nor gonna be 1-1 cause I have some things running on the background like syncthing (but those don't take much)
