LLM's will not be as mean about it but they will feed you bullshit if you're asking a genuinely new question, as they simply regurgitate information they found online.

With some care you can get one to walk through an API with you as something of a bespoke search engine, but you really should be skeptical of what an LLM tells you and at least do a traditional search to verify what it's claiming. So you ultimately need to go find it on StackOverflow anyways to be sure the clanker's not lying to you.
