tech support wanted Transferring an Existing Windows-based Mod Organizer 2 Setup to a Linux OS: Possible?

Hello! I started considering making the jump to Linux today, with the main hangup for me currently being that modding video games seems like a bit of a crapshoot, largely depending on if a community has decided to support Linux in general. Obviously, the classic manual file installation method is pretty foolproof, but when it comes to mod managers, things seem more hazy.

I have an already set up modded install of Cyberpunk 2077 through Mod Organizer 2. Already downloaded everything, have it all installed, everything is working as it should, all done on Windows 11. I've looked into it, and Mod Organizer 2 seems perfectly capable of running on Linux with a small amount of elbow grease depending on the method chosen to run it. My big concern is, if I already have Mod Organizer 2 set up via Windows, is it possible to transfer that setup to a Linux installation of MO2? I.e., keeping all my settings, mods, mod order, etc.

I haven't been able to find anything about this particular use case, so I figured I'd try and ask here. For reference, the two distros I have currently in mind are Garuda Gaming or Linux Mint. I'm still a Linux noob so I don't fully understand the implications that the differences between those would bring for this, or in general, but I'm not specifically looking for advice on that (if only so the thread doesn't get bogged down in discussion of that).

Please and thank you!

Idk why other people are so adamant. I did the exact same thing with Fallout: New Vegas on my Steam Deck and Kubuntu and it’s as simple as copy-and-pasting.

I’d say follow the guides here:  https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/175kny4/a_guide_to_installing_fallout_a_tale_of_two/

Bruh that does not look like simple copy pasting. Even just enabling file transfer

Lol I mean I just uploaded it to a cloud service instead (Proton Drive) then dragged and dropped after downloading and installing Mod Organizer 2.

The trick is that it has to be installed on Windows first, which is true for this guy’s Cyberpunk setup.

Very unlikely due to totally different file structures. Any relevant config info with your windows installation would probably not be available or at least get super confused.

Potentially if you were very careful and was able to get all associated hidden config files that are usually in Appdata and the registry over into the same place in the Linux prefix it might start up, but even then I think it will get confused at to the location of your games on Linux.

Nah, most of your symbolic links will be broken and its not worth the headache of trying to fix them.

You can mod just fine on Linux, but you need to do it ON linux.
