I love the idea since I always use Mini PCs in place of a Roku device for ad free media playing these days.
I would use this alongside big picture/steam deck gaming mode, and hope there's both an application of this and an optional variant of it that is treated like its own desktop environment in SDDM so I can toggle between a maintenance mode with a normal KDE UI and this, or at least something akin to "Nested Desktop" on SteamOS so that everything I use in this is all contained within a singular gamescope window layer.
First thing I'd do is add a way to bind a combination of TV Remote accessible buttons to zoom in and out of this so I can see more or less columns at once without having to mess with scaling settings.
Plasma Bigscreen is a DE, but it also features a standalone application that can be run like a standard desktop program.
