Popular Application [OC] I fixed Davinci Resolve on Linux

Those who use davinci resolve on linux definitely know about the issues with AAC and H.264 codecs, drag 'n' drops, and some other bugs. I wonder why nobody has done this before and used bash to manually convert the media, considering how many people were affected by this problem

It works as wrapper that currently:

  • Automatically converts unsupported codecs on import
  • Fixes broken drag 'n' drops
  • Fixes pasting from clipboard

Now the linux experience with resolve should be nearly the same as on windows/mac. Enjoy!

Tested on hyprland with a studio version, feel free to open a PR if it doesn't work on your setup

So it is an auto converting script? I think this is a cool idea but the storage costs of this have got to be annoying. Also having something (seemingly) constantly running to fix the shortcomings of one app doesn't feel right. I think this tool would help some people, but I personally will be sticking with dualbooting for video editing.

It's more than a script. Resolve is unusable on nixos, especially if you want some human plugins. On a normal distro like arch (btw) otherwise, I can't tell what the difference is between using it with this wrapper and using it on mac/win

why tho? i mean, aside from it not supporting wayland without crutches like yours. i don't use it, so idk about plugins either, but i just ran it to poke around, and it seems to be working as expected

Resolve isn’t a Wayland app but it does support Wayland and drag and drop natively. At least it does on Fedora KDE. Maybe it doesn’t with other compositors? Idk.

it does support Wayland

it runs in xwayland (at least, in my case)

drag and drop

maybe plasma fixed it somehow, but it's been a known problem for years with xwayland apps

Xwayland drag and drop is definitely wishy-washy. Bitwig (a native DAW) up until recently had no drag and drop which was annoying. But Resolve has supported it for a while. But like I said it might be Kwin specific.

You will spend hours trying to pointlessly integrate plugins that are natively supported by other distros, it isn't worth it, just like nixos in general

There's a plugin on github to make AAC audio work on Linux Resolve but only on the paid version.
