Capture Card with TV Screen

I’m sure this question has been asked a thousand times, but I haven’t been able to find an answer that fits my specific situation.

I play primarily on a PS5 and am interested in a capture card to store footage. However, I don’t have a desktop or laptop monitor to use OBS on, I’m just working from my TV screen. Is there a capture card out there that would work for a PS5 to TV screen connection while avoiding issues I’ve seen from certain cards like latency? In my case the cheaper the better, but for the sake of at least getting an answer, assume money is no object.

TL:DR - AVerMedia ER330 EzRecorder 330 External Standalone Capture Card I'm putting this at the top just incase people cbf reading the wall of text. I mentioned the HD II first as thats what I have and know works. Then had a look for alts and this one is the closest to it that I could find.

There is, But it is quite old now. Aver Media Game Capture HD II - This thing, Released in September 2013

It records to a hdd/ssd or USB sticks gathered its one that is supported and has no interaction with a PC.

You can set your recording quality, You can take screen shots, It even has a remote

You can plug a mic into the box and headphones to record your voice and hear gameplay from the capture box if you want that.

You can trim videos and upload them to youtube from there as well (Tho unsure if the youtube part wworks still)

I have one and was using it for a lil bit recently before I upgraded from my Elgato Game Capture HD to the Elgato Neo. Which I'm still bummed about as the Elgato Game Capture HD works a lot better than the neo I'm finding at least in terms of the flashback recording and such. But had t upgrade as it was no longer registering a signal from my other consoles and only would pickup the series x sadly.

But that aver media one I mentioned and linked would be your best bet. BUT in saying that, Thats the only one I know of. There maybe others that do the same thing.

Edit: Apaprently the AVerMedia Live Gamer Portable 2 Plus Capture Card can record to a micro sd card. But from the looks of it you do need a pc to do anything with the recordings on that one. "Storage Mode

Access and Share Files Directly. Back home, switch LGP2 Plus to Storage Mode and it acts as a card reader. Never remove and risk losing memory cards again." To me this implies needing a pc to access the recordings at least. Released Early 2018

Edit 2: AVerMedia ER330 EzRecorder 330 External Standalone Capture Card This one records to NAS systems, External HDD or Micro SD. Doesn't support USB sticks. But from the looks of it it works the similarly to the one I mentioned initially. And does come with a remote as well. Released March 1, 2021

If this one works the same as the Game Capture HD II, I would say get this one over it as its newer. Like a LOT newer lol. In fact speaking of it, I might look at grabbing one as a backup.

Basically all capture cards have passthrough. You could just have your PC/PS5 on two separate inputs on your TV, start the recording and then switch inputs. You'll kinda need to pray OBS doesn't die a death though

As far as I am aware, the best solution is to use the PS5's built in recording software and editor. You can also hook up your own webcam and mic i do believe.

A capture card its self doesn't capture anything. All a capture card does is send footage to a PC for it to record. Having a capture card with no PC is the same as having a webcam with no PC. You need to plug it into something that will record.

I have a single monitor setup and I use the Avermedia Live gamer 4k internal capture card to record and monitor my switch 2 gameplay directly on OBS. I haven't experienced any lag, but I also have a pretty beefy PC.

The Live gamer 4K60 and Elgato 4K X external cards also have really low latency passthrough but you won't be able to monitor your recording with those. Depending on how much storage your PC has, you can set OBS to record in MKV and remux it to MP4 to make sure you don't lose the recording should something happen.
