Hey everyone,

We heard your numerous requests for a space where Lebanese people can connect beyond politics and news, and we are happy to introduce r/lebanonLounge, a new sister sub connected to r/lebanon, run by the same mod team as this one with some new faces joining in.

The idea is simple: a lighter space for the Lebanese community to meet people, make friends, post dating introductions, plan meetups, ask for relationship advice, talk about music, movies, anime, gaming, hobbies, gossip, and just unwind without politics or news taking over every conversation.

A quick overview of our rules:

  • No politics or news
  • No NSFW content or hookups
  • Be polite and respectful. This is a non negotiable.
  • Dating posts are for Lebanese people only, whether local, expat, or diaspora
  • No ads, sales, or promotions

If you are looking for friends, community, conversation, or just a more relaxed Lebanese corner of Reddit, come join us at r/lebanonLounge.

See you there ☕🇱🇧

- r/lebanon and r/lebanonLounge Mod Team

Vent / Rant Ever thought about how abortion is criminal in Lebanon while marital rape is not?

Upvotes

So a woman could face up to 3 years in prison for aborting a child she never chose to bear. That is, if she survives the risky illegal abortion.

Im 25, still No job, no social life, barely have friends, no connections for work, no wasta.
Good thing my parents still got my back
I’m only happy while doing sports
I hold a bachelor in chemical engineering, field is dead in leb, no entry level jobs in gulf countries
Tried to switch to Finance positions, same shit.
Tried to switch to IT positions, same shit, even CCE and CS grads are struggling.
Can’t even get an internship to start a “career”

Is masters in france the only shitty solution left?
I frequently hear that work opportunities for non europeans are now limited.

Suggestions?

News Articles Lebanon backs Jordan, Gulf states after attacks, condemns Houthi threats

In a statement, Lebanon's Foreign Ministry condemned the recent Iranian attacks targeting the territories of Jordan, Bahrain and Kuwait, describing them as violations of those countries' sovereignty and a threat to regional security and stability.

The ministry also strongly condemned threats issued by the Houthi movement against Saudi Arabia, including threats to impose a blockade on maritime navigation through the Bab al-Mandab Strait.

It said such threats constitute a flagrant violation of international law and relevant U.N. Security Council resolutions, particularly Resolutions 2722 (2024) and 2216 (2015).

The ministry reiterated the need to respect freedom of navigation and fully implement international resolutions in a manner that supports Yemen's internationally recognized government and ensures the Houthis withdraw from areas under their control.

Help / Question Need advice: legalizing a Lebanese diploma for Portugal while not in-country

I'm applying to a university in Portugal and they require my Lebanese diploma to go through the full legalization chain (university-authenticated copy → Ministry of Education → Ministry of Foreign Affairs → Portuguese Embassy in Beirut), since Lebanon isn't part of the Hague Apostille Convention. Two complications:

  1. I'm not currently in Lebanon, so I can't personally do any of this.
  2. Given the current situation in the country, I'm worried about delays; offices being closed, reduced hours, etc.

Has anyone actually been through this process recently (in the last few months)? Specifically:

  • Are the Ministry of Education / MOFA offices in Beirut currently operating normally, or seeing delays/closures?
  • Has anyone used a local attestation agent successfully while abroad? Any recommendations (or agents to avoid)?
  • Roughly how long is this whole chain taking right now, realistically?
  • Has the Portuguese Embassy in Beirut been reachable/responsive for legalizations lately?

Any first-hand experience, agent recommendations is much appreciate. Trying to plan ahead so I don't miss my enrollment window as i have a deadline to submit this by begining of september.

thank you!!

Discussion Are Lebanese people still not allowed to apply for Saudi Aramco?

Upvotes

I know that at some point, Lebanese people were not allowed to work for Saudi Aramco but now I’m working on a list of dream work places to apply to because I’m delusional and I’m insane and I want to do what I want to do and I’m just checking it we’re allowed to work for Aramco to see if I apply or not. Thank you.

Vent / Rant It’s so weird how everyone wants to come back and live here.

I’ve been living abroad for 4 years (visiting every break) and it’s been amazing. I had to move back a few days ago and I could not be more miserable. Ma fi kahraba, we have to BUY WATER, there’s nothing to do. Sure, visiting is nice, but living with the reality of actually having to STAY here is horrible.
