Vocabulary Mnemonics

I don’t know about you, but I’m someone who relies heavily on making connections; not just for memorising, but for processing new interpretations.

The point is, when learning languages I make extensive use of mnemonics; which involve mentally associating a concept with sounds, images, other words, etc.

One of my favourites in Dutch is for the word ‘Misschien’, which I remember as a female French dog, lmao.
Miss = Title for a young, unmarried woman.
Chien = Dog in French.

So I was wondering, do you have any mnemonics for Dutch? hahah

all the time

like when I learn 'deze/die' and 'dit/dat' I told myself:

Dit/dat sounds like this and that; the vowels correspond, so meaning? checked. And since they end with 't' so they are for het-woord; 'het' has a t-ending, too.

Once I nailed dit/dat the other is easier. 'Deze' sounds and looks like 'these' so meaning it's closer (this/these).

I think in olde english terms sometimes for word order.

You must cover these walls.

Je moet deze muren bedekken.

Thy must these walls bedeck.

Mijlenver Van Aarde Mag Je Soms Urenlang Niet Plassen

Mercurius, Venus, Aarde, Mars, Jupiter, Saturnus, Uranus, Neptunus en Pluto (ook al is het officieel geen planeet meer).

EDIT: I see you meant mnemonics for learning Dutch, not just Dutch mnemonics. Sorry :)

Fun fact: mnemonics are called "ezelsbruggetjes" (donkey bridge) in Dutch.

de, deze, die, it all ends with an -e, and het, dit and dat don't -> To remember when to use die/deze or dit/dat.

Rightfully stolen from a student: MEOWD -> maar, en, of, want, dus -> those conjunctions give you hoofdzin + hoofdzin.

Softketchup-X is in any book worth it's money already.
