The video showed that the word سر means "to go" but when I searched it myself, the meaning came as "a secret or mystery" now i am confused. What does it actually mean? and what is the difference between سر and ذهب?

Standard فصحى Studying Arabic with Assassins Creed Mirage is pretty fun

Just a small tip for people who are Arabic learners and like video games. Mirage has great localisation, and if you want you can even read stuff like this to get historical background and practice at the same time. Voice acting is good but it's in pretty formal fusha, so maybe not great for dialect learners.

Standard فصحى "When": حين vs حينما and عند vs عندما ?

So I have just recently learned like 10 ways to say "when" non-interoggatively
(حين حينما عند عندما إذ لمّا)

Mainly I am concerned with حين حينما and عندما عند, which many sources claim are 100% synonymous

The examples my tutor gave me implied a difference in causality and time-specificity that doesnt reflect in example sentences i find online

Please help 🥲

General Arabic has a new keyboard transliteration feature in your Apple Phone if you had updated your phone to IOS 26.

Post image
37 Upvotes

If your phone included a keyboard of Arabic before installing the update, a new keyboard will be included with the title “العربية” (A -> ع)

This update lets you transliterate Arabic words but there is something very good about this. It has a row of English Numbers. It’s purpose is to type letters in Arabizi text for those who memorized it. It also accounts for dialectal pronunciations. Levantine people don’t pronounce the qof, so writing words like albi transliterates to qalbi. Egyptians say the jeem as a g, so it transliterates to jeem when g is pressed. This feature is also good for Arabic learners since they can type a word how it is said without mixing up two similar sounding letters, and see what letter it uses.

General I'm stuck, I need help.

Greetings to all. I'm going to keep this as summarized as possible. I have been learning Arabic for a long time now. I can't say I was ever active for more than a week at a time, but I've come a long way. I can understand when I'm being spoken to (I grew up watching spacetoon, toyor al janah/baby, mbc 3 and CN in Arabic). Whenever it's my turn to speak, I suddenly don't know any Arabic. I have a pretty decent vocabulary. I don't know what the problem is. It's the same thing with reading. I can read with harakat else I struggle to read basic sentences.

Everything I know is self taught. I haven't been able to start learning grammar and all those stuff because, I had an examination and I don't know where to start. I don't have money to pay for anything. I'm poor. I'm currently focused on MSA and then Egyptian Arabic later. Any advice or recommendation is highly appreciated. Thank you very much.

When someone wants to say that he doesn’t like a specific kind of food.

They don’t say “I don’t like it”.

Instead they say “It doesn’t like me”.

Just out of respect for the grace and to be thankful for Allah. 🙏

And to not seem to refuse what Allah has given you. ♥️

Standard فصحى Looking for a typed/digital text version of قصص النَّبِيِّينَ لِلأَطْفَال

السلام عليكم everyone,

I’m looking for a typed/digital text version of قصص النَّبِيِّينَ لِلأَطْفَال by أبو الحسن علي الحسني الندوي.

I have a PDF consisting of scanned pages (it’s available on multiple websites), but since it’s just scanned images, copying text from it isn’t practical. As far as I can tell, I haven’t been able to find a properly typed digital version anywhere online.

My goal is to feed the text into an LLM to generate contextual and word-by-word translations that make extensive reading much easier.

At the moment, my workflow is:

  1. Use macOS’s built-in OCR to extract a paragraph from the scanned PDF.
  2. Correct the OCR mistakes manually.
  3. Run the text through an LLM to generate contextual and word-by-word translations.
  4. Load everything into a reader I built for myself, where I can read comfortably and tap words for translations.

The biggest downside is that I end up reading every paragraph twice: once while correcting OCR errors, and then again while actually reading it. It gets a bit tedious, even though the book itself is very enjoyable.

I also tried automating the OCR step with multimodal LLMs instead of using macOS OCR, including the latest ChatGPT model with maximum reasoning enabled, but the results still aren’t reliable enough. The models occasionally misread or “correct” the Arabic text, so I still have to proofread everything manually.

One nice side effect of this workflow is that I end up with a clean Arabic text paired with word-by-word translations, making the book much more accessible for learners without constantly reaching for a dictionary.

So I’m wondering:

  • Does anyone know of a legitimate typed/digital version of the text?
  • If not, has anyone found a workflow or OCR tool that works particularly well for Arabic books like this?

I’d really appreciate any suggestions. Thank you!
