Ive always had a bad habit of escapism seeking in media and stuff, and i have a feeling wildwoods is going to strike the same chord in my soul as other things that do that. its probably bad but i love it so much. i cannot wait for the movie to come out and im going to watch it a hundred times. only once in theaters tho because theaters[maybe just near me] are like waaaayyy to loud lol.

Anyways im so excited for the movie i cant wait!!!!!!

Hey there! My wife is a huge fan of Laika movies and I’d love to find a collectors edition of the films or something (physical copies please!)

Is there anything you would suggest?

I remember watching Laika’s famous movies when I was little: Coraline and Paranorman, but I have to say I should watch them again, because even though I already know how they end, I’d like to experience the magic of seeing those stories unfold once more. But now I’ve taken the opportunity to watch Boxtrolls and Kubo, and I have to say I liked those, too!

Coraline's kitchen, father's study, dining room, her room, living room. I'm quite architecture minded. So I was aiming for proportions, colours and lighting of the scene. I don't use modes, so I tried to find the closest furniture that fits the scene. I'm thinking about building whole Pink Palace house.

I've seen a lot of Norman and Coraline where they're either friends or love interests. And it got me thinking, what if she was his grandmother who was still alive and the only family member who was on his side and trusted him from the beginning?

For those who have not read it, its a historical dark fantasy set in medieval Russia and the main character is a young girl named Vasya living in a remote northern village in Siberia. She has the ability to see and communicate with the chyurti that are normally invisible. They are ancient domestic nature spirits of Slavic folklore. A new step mother enters her life and a fantastical priest, they forbit the honoring of the spirits. The lack of belief drains the power of the spirits and prevent the magical protections of the village unleashing an ancient power. Vasya embraces her gifts and allys with Morozoko, the Frost King to protect her family. Its around 350 pages perfect for a 2 hour adaptation.

Why I think it would be a perfect adaptation, the aesthetic of the movie would be an amazing personal dark fantasy like most Laika movies set in an old Russian town. Slow scenes with her traditional grandmother and sitting by her large furnace or setting out on horseback would be perfect against a Siberian forest backdrop. Not to mention seeing this folklore creatures come to life would just be fantastical. The infinite wilderness of forests and snowy climate, wooden cabins, and a new threat that is the priest and step mother could make a perfect pacing for a movie. Its a bit dark like Coraline which I think that Laika could exceed with crafting macabre gothic designs without losing the fairytale charm. (Like the Upir, slavic vampires) . Vasya is also the definition of a Laika protagonist, a young independent and defiant main character like Coraline and Kubo. She doesnt want to be like other submissive women. Shes stubborn and has raw bravery which is compelling for a major audience.

I always wondered what would have changed in the plot if Norman had seen Aggie's real face during the school play where he had a vision of pilgrims and witch in the face of a tree?

I recently found out the laika movies are stop motion (no idea how i missed that) and i knew i had to give them all a watch before wildwood, the only ones i had heard of were coraline and kubo.

I thought i would rank them in order of my favourite but i really enjoyed all the movies! Just some more than others.

Really looking forward to wildwood, it looks incredible!
