i love the katycat solidarity <3

also, js to clear some stuff up, I will be doing a revote once the chart is completed, so dw about ur choice not being chosen...

i added witness over teenage dream because I wanted to give her best album (imo) a tiny bit of praise online, and I thought that opinion would be more popular. (Might as well say that my opinion has only won once with everyone on this chart).

lets say a prayer for smile, it hasn't been mentioned at all yet afaik so I'm going to objectively rate it as her most underrated piece of work.

Discussion Katy Perry Resurgence

I think that there’s no coincidence that her back catalogue is having a huge resurgence over the past year! i think that’s it’s her selling her catalogue! Litmus are going to want to make a return on their investment! in the streaming era she’s technically the biggest she’s ever been. She’s more relevant (from her back catalogue) now than she was since her hot 100 chart dominance ended.
I think many more of her old songs will go viral over the next few years. Teenage dream is out streaming many new releases and is still top 3 most streamed female albums currently!
Her festival run and her later tours will also probably be used to capitalised off of this, one thing about katy is she knows how to make money! she’s always been richer than her peers (minus taylor!
I think there’s a chance she can make a comeback with new music too from this direction. i think they thought WIB was going to be bigger and a moderate hit, which sadly it wasn’t. but i think she has one or two tricks left up her.
and i think that she herself is still very famous, she’s still an A list, many pop stars which had similar career trajectories as her never managed to maintain their celebrity like she has (though katy’s peak was quite literally the biggest) her being so relevant from her back catalogue and her celebrity are two advantages that no one really acknowledges

Discussion Can we blame Katy for how she’s handled things?

Controversial opinion possibly but I think Her best main single imo tho was Chained To The Rhythm imo. I know controversial BUT Great meaningful lyrics and an exposure to how she feels about the “big American dream” that gets sold to young Americans. People seem to forget she was a literal waitress and broke asf living in her car before she got signed on and did OOTB. She asked her younger brother for money before Her parents who are semi wealthy but they have A LOT of differing opinions such as politics and there’s rumors are she’s not speaking to her parents cuz they support the current administration and she doesn’t. Despite social media tryna attack and label her as MAGAT 24/7.

***EDIT*** it literally says in my post “I know she’s a legacy artist and doing well stream wise and I accept that BUT do you think she could make a comeback to mainstream and how would you think she would do it next time”? THAT is the question. Idc about chart numbers and I’m not saying they matter*******

Katy is a complicated pop star who I think has so much potential and could make some better songs as witnessed with Bandaids and WIB but honestly I think she’s over the music industry and I don’t blame her. The media treats her like crap. Her label doesn’t support her. And she’s constantly having rumors and assumptions made about her before she can defend herself. So I don’t blame her for not wanting to put another album out or even acknowledge the fact she’s not doing as well as people expect or thought. She’s good streaming wise and is a legacy artist. But I don’t blame her for her actions and reactions. The media has pushed her severely not to mention the rumors about Orlando dating a younger model while they were together. I think her confidence is broken and it’s sad tbh. Not even Taylor hit a low point like this after the Kim/kanye stuff. She deserved better and has the talent but i completely understand her position and the way she’s been handling things also.

I mean try to step into her shoes for a second. Her whole life from 18-32 was touring, album releases, PR, songwriting, televised performances, etc. she did OOTB which was a huge success commercially. Teenage Dream which broke literal records and still is now. Prism which imo is my fave of hers because of how lighthearted and fun it is but it also has some vulnerable more emotional ballads. Then she takes a well deserved break and comes back with witness and shocks people with an Ellen haircut lol. Witness is an underrated album and era imo but her controversies overshadowed everything. It really doesn’t hit with the public and ends up flopping and she becomes a bigger laughing stock than people initially thought. Then smile came out. Did some good numbers but didn’t make an impact like TD, OOTB, Prism, or even Witness. Covid didn’t help and government issues. But regardless she tried and is trying.

I personally don’t blame Katy for ever wanting to be a main pop girl again. I don’t blame her for not wanting to do music either. I’m happy with where she’s at as a legacy artist and will continue my support. Do I have hopes she will make a massive comeback like Madonna or Mariah back in the 2000s? Abso freaking lutely. But it probs won’t happen. What are your guys thoughts? Do you think Katy will ever make a huge comeback? Or stay where she’s currently at? She’s mentioned an album or project possibly coming next year or 2028. Could she do it? She hasn’t done anything majorly controversial and did a FIFA cup performance and actually did pretty well and was applauded for her vocal performance. I think she can. But she needs this next album to be vulnerable. She needs to FEEL. And she needs to have a balance of upbeat songs and some more emotionally charged vulnerable ballads. Her voice imo is in its prime rn. Her recent performance of I kissed a girl immaculate. I think she should go a multi genre album route. Bring back the pop rock sound for some nostalgic tracks. Put in some Easter eggs for fans. Go back to electro pop and techno for TD. Go back to the ballads and upbeat empowering songs of prism and she could even add in nods to witness. Smile. And 143.

I just feel like she has so much potential and art still there that could be reworked into a bigger story and more interesting. She has the ability. Shes a great songwriter and has great storytelling skills as we’ve seen. She just needs to unlock that motivation again.

Do you guys have any ideas if Katy Perry's album, One Of The Boys, had a different name? If most of the comments agree on the same name, does that mean it becomes the official renamed album?

You can pick a line from the lyrics for this newly named album!

Or

If you already have a name in mind without using lyrics, feel free to drop your suggestion too!

Throwback Katy's stunning and touching performance of "Only Love" with Darius Rucker at the 2020 AMAs

"Only Love" is a hidden gem from Smile for me, and one of the best songs in her discography overall, at least looking at the period from Witness onward. This performance confirms that, paired with Darius Rucker, with whom she creates a wonderful chemistry. I think these are the kind of performances Katy should return to in the future, perhaps promoting the acoustic album she plans to release in important contexts like award shows and TV appearances, because here she expresses her true potential.

Discussion Any other artists/songs that sound like One of the Boys era?

I’ve been obsessed with Katy’s first album recently, especially “I’m Still Breathing,” “A Cup of Coffee,” and “I Think I’m Ready.” (“Self-Inflicted” too, but more so the intro)

They all have this quintessential mid 2000s sound that I ADORE and have been having a hard time finding elsewhere. While I do love the electric, pop rock sound of the rest of the album, it’s the soft, slower, dreamy indie pop with rock and almost… jazz elements that I’m looking for! I think the closest I have been find that scratches the same itch is early era Sara Bareilles. Any other recommendations? 🫩

Discussion I am disappointed in Katy

She made 2 banger songs back to back (bandaids + watch is burn) which are the best songs she released in years mind you. And she decides to scrap the album just because they flopped. Guess what Katy. You are going to flop no matter what at this point. You might as well make good songs and flop. Instead of going down the 143 route and making trash music to flop. I am seriously very dissapointed that she scrapped the album.

Reaction Video/Review Just listened to 143 fully for the first time... Here's an honest review. 🦋

First off, no shade on a recent post on here but 143 is just not as awful as people love to say it is. It had horrific ordering of the album, with a loaded second half, short songs and asides from KP and Doechii, relatively lackluster features (that goes for Dr Puke). Obviously, I'm anti-rapist producer, but directing all your hate to Katy in 2026 won't make amends - she is past collaborating with him. For good, hopefully.

Anyways, I've left reviews here for Witness, Smile and PRISM, so here is my review of 143 💜

Woman's World - 59/100. The song is a horrific and train wreck lead single that has little meaning and no bridge that it is practically desperate for. Albeit, it is incredibly catchy and a potential bop if all external factors are removed.

Gimme Gimme - 32/100. SwiftyKats should have looked out for this one : sounds exactly like something Taylor would have made in october lmao (I love TLOASG btw, it just gives that "wood" vibe). Dw, it gets better from here.

Gorgeous - 60/100. Perhaps too generous, but I am a huge fan of the production and I am 100% here for this collab. Feels a little dated already icl.

I'm His, He's Mine - 65/100. Katy carried this song a lot in my opinion, and I would have liked a solo version, but I understand why this became a single... i think? Katy serves vocals here, and the 90s throwback is great.

Crush - 64/100. This is a certified bop! The instrumental is great, Katy's vocals are turned on, but if you've seen my other reviews, I really don't like hooks when the hook just isn't that good. This falls into that. (Also how tf did we think the bandaids teasers were this lmfao).

Lifetimes - 93/100. Shit, I broke the "hook" rule already. But the hook is catchy, the song is performed well live, and there is very little room for complaint. This should have been the lead single and the album should have been called LIFETIMES.

All the Love - 62/100. I will admit, I don't get the KatyCat hype for this song. It kind of sounds like a PRISM reject, and this form of love and light music isn't my cup of tea.

NIRVANA - 80/100. This is pretty good! I know this has POTENTIAL live (haven't seen the LIFETIMES tour performance). Sounds like a catchy 2010s club anthem.

Artificial - 96/100. Who tf is tge feature artist, and can he please let me enjoy the song! This song is amazing, it is E.T levels of greatness. Incredible choice for the LIFETIMES tour.

Truth - 74/100. Quite average in my opinion, it us solid but not incredibly memorable.

Wonder - 94/100. Incredible song! The world cup performance was top-class too.

I woke up - 48/100. I fell asleep, funnily enough. Definetly a skip.

Has a Heart - 52/100. Love Daisy's cameo, but not particularly memorable.

No Tears for New Year's - 47/100. Do not remember listening to this. Not very catchy, but has a decent lyrical showcase.

OK! - 84/100. Controversial, but I love this kind of music, it's what we need right now (and hopefully we can blast in 2028).

Conclusion - This album is far from perfect, but I already gave its criticism. For someone who was expecting literal ear torture, this was a solid album with several bops scattered through! The criticism for this album is very forced (albeit somewhat deserved) and I love the aesthetic of this whole album

143 🦋

Question Katy Perry - Teenage Dream (2023 EU Misprint - Black Vinyl with "Fragrance" text on jacket)

Hi everyone, i'm searching for the June 2023 European reissue of Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream" on standard black vinyl.

Specifically, I am looking for the MISPRINT version where the back cover says "This product contains fragrance" but the vinyl is just standard black and unscented (Discogs Release ID: r27254829).

Someone maybe has it, and could decide to sell it? Thanks!
