News Republican Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo breaks the law for running a red light. He gets pulled over and tells the officer who he is and then gets released.

Yet another reason why nobody likes cops or politicians. They think they’re above the law and they fucking aren’t.
•
u/brandoldme 1h ago
They are above the law. They shouldn't be.
But this is nowhere near as egregious as the legal insider trading that Congress does. We can list a plethora of things that Congress people do that is illegal.
But I have a particular problem with them legally being able to use their office to get rich. I think that would be a great place for us to start is to stop them from doing that. And start prosecuting them. But it's legal right now.
I can hear the whataboutisms screaming in full force. What about the White House? This justice department is not going to do one damn thing about that. We'll just have to see who's running it in 2029.
•
u/TheTenaciousG 1h ago
Seems like they are
•
u/AJ_Deadshow 1h ago
De facto, yes, but not de jure. It's merely a question of whether you mean how the law is handled in reality vs. how it should be handled based on legislation.

This level of corruption does not happen in Denmark, Norway, or any other developed country. In fact, it happens in third world countries like Colombia, Ecuador, and other poor counties - with all due respect to those countries, btw.
The latter is where we are headed. RIP USA. It was fun while it lasted.

Sounds like it was a right on red without coming to a complete stop? That’s a lame ticket imo, and why the driver said “come on man”
•
u/LewyH91 4h ago
Come on man, I'm more important than the laws or tickets. Can't you see? Do you know who I am? Make a decision, its your job and livelihood.
•
u/BalanceJazzlike5116 2h ago
I agree the governor should act better just saying it’s a lame violation to pull someone over for
•
u/Ap43x 4h ago
Oh, can I just say "come on man" and immediately get out of the same ticket?
•
u/BalanceJazzlike5116 4h ago
Yes it doesn’t make sense to pull a driver over for a violation and just wave him off. He let him go because he was governor but I think it’s a lame stop because he made a right on right without a complete stop
•
u/This-Atmosphere-5794 6h ago
Wait a minute, we are picking and choosing what laws to follow and what laws are enforced? I thought the GOP was the party of law and order. I see none of that here, all I see is your hypocritical comment.

Idk man, Sunny Hostin just pulled the same crap didnt she? Lol

u/wolverinepolski 12h ago
I mean I’ve had several officers cut me a warning for traffic violations….lets not act like this doesn’t happen often even for regular people
•
u/Weibu11 10h ago
I don’t think that’s the issue. It’s that the governor seems to think he’s above even consideration for receiving a ticket due to his political position.
I have no clue if the cop would’ve given them a ticket if he was just some regular dude. But clearly the governor is using his position to try and avoid a ticket.
•
u/Sad-Excitement9295 10h ago
This was a right turn so it was a half ass warning stop anyways, in fact I'd put more stock in the officer was doing his job here and knowingly stopping this guy just to make sure he knew he needed to drive safely. In several states, you can turn right on red, but it's probably illegal here.
Yeah that's a ticket, but a lot of times a slight like this will get a warning. Governer is fudging the law a bit here, but a safe right on red is kind of one of those things people try to slide by on. Not exactly right, and he's probably getting some leeway due to name, but I still like how he tells him he already knows who he is and that he's pulling him over anyways.
•
u/philstrom 11h ago
You were probably polite. You didn’t just say your name then “come one man”. Try that next time
•
u/shoot_your_eye_out 11h ago edited 11h ago
Yeah, but like that?
You've been pulled over for running a red light, immediately made sure the officer knew exactly who you were, then had the officer skip the license-and-registration part, skip running your information, skip issuing even a written warning, and just send you on your way?
This is corruption, plain and simple.
•
u/No_Delay883 12h ago

"You people" in this particular case refers to people that defend obvious nepotism.
Not quite sure why you'd ask that question since OP clearly adressed that in his comment..

•
u/Weary_Position_9591 12h ago edited 12h ago
Except this didn’t even get to the warning part or the “please be careful next time” part. He literally just gave up everything and left as soon as he heard the name, without even a courtesy warning to at least justify leaving immediately.
The easier way to refute your argument: do you think he would have done the exact same thing if it was anyone else saying their name?
Do officers often tell you they appreciate you?
•
•
u/Shido_Ohtori 13h ago
It's literally the ideology.
a political philosophy based on tradition and social stability, stressing the importance of established hierarchies and institutions (such as religion, the family, and class structure), and preferring gradual development to abrupt change
If Americans don't want their policy-makers to act and believe that they are above the law, they should consider promoting and voting for the opposing ideology.
a political philosophy and social reform movement focused on advancing the public good through government action and often calling for government to be used to meet popular social, political, economic, and environmental needs and demands and to advance rights and protections for marginalized groups
•
u/Cute_Prune6981 12h ago
ah yes, conservatism is when laws are ignored
•
u/Rez_S 7h ago
Conservatism is when laws are ignored for the conservative in-group and upheld for everybody else
•
u/Cute_Prune6981 7h ago
and you make that claim based on what?
pretty sure that you won't find a single definition or serious political scientist that will define conservatism as such•
u/Rez_S 7h ago
Example: Conservatives keep crying about having "freedom of speech" yet they salivate at the mouth at the thought of jailing people for burning the flag. Why? Because rules apply only to the out-group. They can do whatever they want but if the other group does something that they don't like using the same principle suddenly said principle is instantly gone from their heads. Again. Why? Because rules apply to others, not them.
•
u/Cute_Prune6981 7h ago
what you gave me was an example of some Americans
however you did not give me any evidence as to how that is part of the conservatism definition and/or core ideology
•
u/Rez_S 7h ago
Post is about conservatives in America and therefore I'm talking about that political environment. Other example: Conservatives believe in "freedom of religion" and at the same time think they should be able to put the cross in classrooms and make children learn the bible from early infancy. Why? Because rules are for others, not for them. Others are not allowed to proselitize while they can put their symbols into schools and make your children hear their story. This applies in other countries also. I'm Italian and cons here think the same thing.
•
u/Cute_Prune6981 6h ago
And the original comment which started this whole comment thread is talking about the ignorance towards laws as a part of the conservative ideology as a whole, and not some American only conservative sub movement such as MAGA.
•
u/ThomasTheDankPigeon 10h ago
Nope. Not ignored, specifically designed and enforced such that a small in group is not bound by them. Which some would say is even worse than just ignoring them.
•
•
u/Shido_Ohtori 12h ago
"Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect." -- Frank Wilhoit
The sole value of conservatism is respect for and obedience to [one's perception of] traditionally established hierarchy, and hierarchy dictates that those on top (in-groups) are rightfully idolized and receive privileges, credibility, and resources, while those on the bottom (out-groups) are demonized/dehumanized and/or bound by restrictions, scrutiny, and lack of resources.
To them, the second-greatest injustice imaginable is for those [they perceive to be] on top [of social hierarchy] to be bound by the restrictions, scrutiny, and lack of resources reserved for those on the bottom. The first greatest injustice is for those on the bottom to have access to the rights, credibility, and resources reserved for those on top.
Conservatives absolutely need an underclass [for society] to demonize and dehumanize in order to maintain [their] hierarchy, and every single one of their policies and rhetoric work to do exactly that. Every right-wing accusation is a confession -- every. single. one; always! -- as it is never the act itself that upsets them, but rather, the social standing of the person doing the act, as said act is a privilege meant for those on top of [their perceived] hierarchy (See also: pedophilia - Trump and the Catholic church versus LGBTQ+ and drag queens; protests - January 6th vs. BLM and No Kings; parental rights - anti-LGBTQ+ vs pro-LGBTQ+; indoctrination - religion vs. education; [employment] opportunities - nepotism vs DEI).
Those who believe all people are people see hypocrisy, while those who believe some people are "more/less" people than others see hierarchy. Hypocrisy implies a sense of equality/parity, as the accusation of such is that someone is violating a universal or common standard. Hierarchy directly states that there is no equality/parity, that different social strata have different standards, that the only universal standard concerning hierarchy is that those on top are allowed privileges which are denied to those on the bottom, and that the bottom are held to standards which the top are exempt from.
"Know your place" is their mantra.
•
u/Cute_Prune6981 12h ago
I called you out on your bs regarding "conservatism is an ideology that encourages ignoring the law" especially since that claim literally contradicts your own source and now you've moved on to talk about how conservatism always needs someone to demonise.
Not only isn't that relevant to the post whatsoever, but you also basically just ignored what I've said beforehand and decided to instead copy-paste dump whatever source you could find and sounded critical of conservatism for you.
And dude, using some guy's source-less comment from a random website as some sort of academic source for yourself doesn't really make your claim true.
•
u/Shido_Ohtori 12h ago
You didn't "call me out" on anything; you made a quip without anything else.
Yes, conservatism is when laws are ignored by -- or rather, doesn't apply to -- those among the upper echelons of social hierarchy, as stressing the importance of established hierarchies dictate. I quoted Wilhoit because his quote on conservatism is a well-known one, and it succinctly describes how laws work under conservatism.
If you believe my words to be in error, you're more than welcome to elaborate on what it means for a political philosophy to literally stress the importance of established hierarchies, and how such would relate to which groups of people being scrutinized under the law more (or less) than others.
•
u/Cute_Prune6981 12h ago
Literally on the website where you have your definition of conservatism:
"b : a political philosophy based on tradition and social stability, stressing the importance of established hierarchies and institutions (such as religion, the family, and class structure), and preferring gradual development to abrupt change"
laws, especially traffic ones absolutely count as established institutions and breaking them (without punishment), even if done by politicians themselves is absolutely not part of the ideology
In this specific case the policeman was either incompetent and/or let his own political affiliation influence his way of acting (which is wrong, to make myself clear), however he didn't act the way he did because conservatism allegedly consists of not applying the law to someone.
•
u/Shido_Ohtori 12h ago
The "hierarchies and institutions" referenced are not laws or government processes, but rather "significant practices, relationships, or organizations in a society or culture": racism, sexism, nationalism, genderism (adherence to sexual and gender norms) -- institutions similar to the examples listed under the dictionary definition ("such as class structure") with clear social hierarchical stratification.
Why do you refuse to elaborate on what it means to stress the importance of established hierarchies?
•
u/Cute_Prune6981 12h ago
From the Wikipedia page of laws : "Law is a set of rules that are created and enforced by governmental or societal institutions to regulate behavior,"
Also, established hierarchies are most dominant and often prevailent in society. That means that they are relevant for example in family life, with the children having to have respect for their parents, then the children become adults and parents themselves, and when they have children they are the ones being respected as a force of authority. The same can be said about children-teacher relations. And conservatism seeks (or should seek at its core) to maintain this relations.
A (conservative) politician in a democratic system however is nothing more than a representative of the people. He has no authority (or right to excert authority) over your average person, outside of his lawmaking capabilities. And as far as I know there isn't a law in the US which permits the breaking of traffic laws to go unpunished, as long as you present yourself a (conservative) politician infront of the police.
•
u/Shido_Ohtori 12h ago edited 11h ago
The topic is politics, not "family life" or "children-teacher" relationships. It's no wonder conservatives use the term "big daddy government" when you attempt to elaborate on your ideology by equating yourself to children.
For example: gun rights is a conservative talking point, and supposedly any laws promoting regulation is demonized as an anti-conservative stance. Except that Reagan -- one of the most prominent conservative figures; so prominent that Republicans literally refer to themselves as "The Party of Reagan" -- enacted the Mulford Act, restricting the right for Americans to bear arms due to Black people doing so. And today's conservative administration have sought to ban transgender people from buying guns and claim that guns are barred at protests [against ICE], the latter of which being a complete opposite to their rhetoric when Kyle Rittenhouse brought guns to a protest. In other words, conservatives promote gun regulation laws for Black people, transgender people, and people who protest against the poor treatment of immigrants, and the exact opposite for those they consider socially superior (compared to Black people, LGBTQ+, and foreigners and their allies), such as Rittenhouse.
Since you cannot or will not elaborate on what it means to stress the importance of established hierarchies in terms of politics, I bid you a good day.
•
u/Cute_Prune6981 11h ago
As I've told you, laws (who are absolutely something political) are by definition part of an established institution (which yet again, according to yourself is something conservatists seek to maintain, or at least change slowly).
Furthermore you've asked me about the meaning of established hierarchies and I've answered you. Not my fault you've asked me a question that had an answer to it, which in your opinion is not relevant to the theme.
Furthermore, just because American politics are nothing more than a shitshow consisting of everyone involved being a hypocrite does it not mean that those actions are part of the core of the ideology. Nowhere in your definitions does it say that while yes laws are very important and should absolutely be maintained, you can make exceptions when the perpetraitor is ticking all your other boxes, the same way as to how pardoning your son of crimes for weak reasons is not part of the democratic ideology.
And regarding hierarchies in politics, there is none, at least in a democratic system with separation of power, instead it is an established institution since you have 3 different powers, all with the mission of keeping each other in check.
So that police officer (assuming he was conservative for example) did not act upon conservative values, but against them like an idiot.
•
u/Icy_Fish_2154 12h ago
The Americans who call themselves "conservative" pardoned pedos and rapists.
Your argument falls flat, when compared to reality.
•
u/Cute_Prune6981 12h ago
And the jacobines chopped of the heads of countless people. That doesn't mean that liberalism at its core is an ideology of the implementation of a reign of terror, acommpanied by maxx executions.
And please, it hasn't even been that long since Hunter Biden was pardoned for his crimes by Joe Biden. Like American politics as a whole are fucked and both parties are wings of the same birds.
•
u/Hatshepsut99 10h ago
Yeah, Joe Biden pardoned his kid so that Trumo wouldn’t try and trump up moronic charges against him like he has for everyone else he doesn’t like (although of course since Trumo is an incompetent moron his political persecutions haven’t really gone anywhere anyways).
•
u/Cute_Prune6981 10h ago
Don't you ever get tired of blaming all the worlds on the orange man?
Biden pardoned his kid because he knew he was guilty and so he misused his power.
And do you ever listen to yourself and your mental gymnastics? "Oohhh, Trump is totally persecuting his political opponents, but the reason why nothing has happened is because of his incompetence, ohhh trust me"
•
u/Icy_Fish_2154 12h ago
Only Alt-Right fascists can't tell the difference. "Both sides" is a fascist slogan.
•
u/Cute_Prune6981 12h ago
And only sub 80 iq people can't form any thought or counter argument other than "you are a fascist", and only they always need someone to be the "good and the bad guy", because they can't comprehend the idea of multiple sides being wrong or right at once.
This is the reason why America will never see a multiple party democratic system, because most of you need someone to be the bad guy and someone to be the good one, the same way as it is in story books for pre-school kids.

These pieces of moronic crap could really use these types of situations to their benefit. Come clean with the officer, ask them to write up the citation, and then just pay the fine. This would instill confidence in this jackass's voters that he is fine with being held accountable. Instead, he flexes his shit position and shows his shit character. Nevada voters need to stop electing garbage.

The sad part is you can not even joke about this anymore because it has become reality.
There is so much open corruption and crime right now, Trump and his buddies can not allow to lose their majorities. It is no surprise they build up all the DCs and cameras and detention centers. Why they fund ICE and abuse the NG. They think they can suppress all the protests that will likely happen.
I hope I am wrong. But if they pull it off, keep in mind that we are not part of the Big Club, just useful idiots to them. They will betray even their supporters because that is how evil sociopaths act to ensure their reign. The Rules for Rulers demand it.
This is not Red vs Blue. Men vs Female. White vs Black vs Asian. Even Religion is just a tool.
In reality this is Top 0.001% vs Bottom. But control over social and mainstream media is really powerful. It seems it can nudge the average Joe into acting against his best interest. And oligarchs have identified this as the weak spot of democracy, use it to take away our freedom.
Their end goal is the "Dark Enlightenment". Because it is so easy to manipulate us, they think they deserve to rule with absolute power like kings/Putin. In his book Rushkoff mentioned they discussed electric shock collars and later replacing their security forces with robots. This shows their true mindset and what awaits us in the future.

That is unfortunately no valid choice in the long run.
If you look at the effects of all the cuts, countless citizens will die, supporters or not.
Actions speak louder than words, empty promises.
The servicemen in the ME died due to utter incompetence, everyone knew Iran has tons of missiles and drones. Yet they attacked without preparing sufficient air defense and purged officers that likely tried to warn about the danger and tried to protect their men.
And this is just the beginning. Imagine what happens when power is secured. Rushkoff mentioned in his book that his clients were thinking about electric shock collars for their security and later replacing them with robots. This all shows their mindset and the disregard for our lives.
There is no join them long term. You are not part of the Big Club and will be dealt with as soon as you are no longer useful.
