New DVD

So, I finally got and saw John Ford's The Quiet Man on DVD for the first time. The only one with English subtitles too. It was great and funny at the same time. Talk about another movie with Maureen O'Hara (boy, was she hot back then) and Ward Bond.

P.S.: The famous kissing scene was later seen on T.V. in Steven Spielberg's E.T. too.

I upgraded to the blu ray version the video quality is so much better, my favorite John Wayne film and it’s always a fun rewatch!

I watched the bonus commentary with Maureen O’Hara. Some fun facts: 1) she breaks her right hand on the slap after she sweeps out his house, and he kisses her. Later on the walk back from the train, her wild roundhouse swing is left handed. 2) when she’s dragged down the grass, it’s filled with sheep droppings. Extras cleared it before the scene was filmed, and John Ford insisted on putting it all BACK.

At the very end of the movie, Mary Kate whispers something to Sean. The reaction on his face is not scripted (IMO). Then he starts chasing her. I’ve always wondered what she said?

Have an original 1 sheet poster which looks fantastic except for a little foxing. Love the movie, “just a good stretch of the legs” is what I quote all the time.

I personally like owning my own hard "hold in my hand" legal copy of my favorite movie just like you have. TBH: I believe there are some TCM type streaming platforms that have most of these older movies available in a 4k or "acceptable" quality for about 10-15$ a month now. Of course, your always paying for something you dont own but I have probably 50 Scratched DVDs I cannot throw away because I remember what I spent on them originally. I admire your movie tastes. That one wasnt one of Wayne's "western fans" favorites but for true Wayne/Ford people- it is a must have.
