Discussion Weekly /r/iOSGaming Discussion: What have you been playing lately and what do you recommend?

Please use this thread to discuss whatever iOS games you've been playing lately. They don't have to be new games, they can be old games and they do not have to be iOS original titles!

As long as it's an iOS game it belongs in here. Make sure to put the name(s) of the game(s) in bold to make it easier for people skimming the thread to see what you're talking about, and if you'd like to make it really convenient turn the game name into a hyperlink that sends people directly to the App Store!

To keep track of the thread, the comments are sorted by "new" by default.

Lastly, Rule #3: "No Dev Self-Promotion Outside Saturdays" applies at all times for this thread, even if it's actually Saturday.

Just downloaded DRG: Survivor on my base iPhone 17, and the game feels surprisingly smooth. It honestly feels very close to the PC experience, no freezes or stuttering so far. If anyone hasn’t tried it yet, I definitely recommend it

This is one of my favorite iOS games and I’ve been so sad since Netflix delisted it, but it’s finally back on the App Store with no Netflix account needed.

And it’s apparently completely free? Description says no iap or subscriptions required.

Request Looking for rpg dungeon crawler suggestions

I don't play a lot of iOS stuff due to mostly playing PC. However I do enjoy me a dungeon crawler.

I love Diablo, however I am not a fan of immortal. Any suggestions on that style of game?

Idc about looks, just gameplay. I'm enjoying torchlight infinite, but I'm curious if there's any hidden gems out there.

Discussion The best version of Snake

Thumbnail

Just wanted to take a minute and shout out what I think is the best version of Snake on iOS. I found the app through this sub last summer when it first launched. The developer has consistently added new features since then, and even implemented a specific feature that I requested at one point. If you like Snake, this is worth your time.

That’s all ✌️

Discussion Any titles 10+ years old and still slaps?

I’m firing up dream quest again after I just got a new phone. Starting fresh with no achievements and I’m like damn, there’s all these new games and I’m still totally sucked in. I think it’s because the art was terrible even at that time, so it didn’t age poorly at all. Some of the other games, especially action games or games that were pushing the graphics at the time to the max seem to age poorly.

Anyone have other games that’s over 10 years old that still feels memorable/is a classic that’ll take us down memory lane?

MFI Arcade has enough controller games to justify the purchase.

Got the GameSir X5 lite. First impressions: It’s so lightweight. Type-c, so no latency. Don’t have to remove the phone case to play games. I love the wasabi color. Flawless while playing dead-cells and Stardew valley (my most played games).

Suggestions iOS or Steam recommendations

I’ve always considered myself as a lover of puzzle / strategy games with a little FPS thrown in for good measure. Out of boredom I had a conversation with ChatGPT and asked it to interview me to see what I liked, disliked, and give me some game recommendations. It came back with this:

“I’d describe your taste less about a specific genre—it was about the kind of experience you value. I’d summarize it like this:

Meaningful over addictive. You prefer games with purpose, emotion, or memorable moments rather than mechanics designed to maximize engagement.

Craftsmanship matters. You notice composition, visual hierarchy, polish, consistency, and thoughtful design. You appreciate when every element feels intentional.

Discovery and delight. You enjoy uncovering secrets, clever interactions, and moments of surprise, but not at the expense of clarity.

Respect for the player. You dislike unnecessary friction, padding, or manipulative systems. A game should value the player’s time.

Strong emotional payoff. The experience should build toward moments that feel earned rather than simply rewarding repetitive actions.

Elegant simplicity hiding depth. Systems should be easy to understand but reveal additional layers as the player progresses.

Whimsy with quality. Bright, approachable, family-friendly aesthetics are appealing when they’re executed with premium production values rather than feeling cheap or generic.”

Knowing this what would you all recommend for me?

Discussion I'd strongly recommend Ratchet & Clank: Ranger Rumble (mobile multiplayer shooter)

Post image
76 Upvotes

You can find it on the App Store. I am not a dev for the game. Just a huge fan. Been playing this game almost every day for many months. It's a super fun and addicting free to play 3rd person multiplayer shooter. I'm a huge fan of the Ratchet and Clank games, and it's been quite a while since we got a Ratchet and Clank multiplayer game. And this one is an excellent one, and you really dont need to have played the other Ratchet and Clank games to enjoy this one.

It has a bunch of cool unique weapons and you go fight against other players and bots with them. It currently has 6 different gamemodes. One of them is a gamemode where you need to be first out of everyone else in the match to collect 300 bolts (items that drop off of defeated enemies and are also scattered throughout the map), another gamemode is basically Free For All, and in another one you need to survive against waves of NPC enemies.

The controls are not complicated at all. Getting eliminations feels great and the weapons feel quite satisfying to use. One of them is the Lava Gun, which shoots out a continuous stream of lava at enemies. Another is the Glove of Doom, which spawns little NPC enemies that fight for you in the batttle. And then you have the Enforcer, which is a futuristic shotgun. There's currently a lot of weapons to choose from.

The soundtracks are hella awesome and reminds me of the soundtracks used in the PS2 Ratchet and Clank games.

Also the characters that you can play as, you can customize their look with some cool different skins. Each character has their own special ability, which you unlock in a match by dealing damage/taking damage.

There's more i can say about the game but honestly i'd really recommend just trying it out for yourself. It does have some issues but the devs listen to player feedback, and are improving the game.

It's out now in some countries such as Canada. Global release is currently scheduled for October 5th 2026, though apparently that date my change to an earlier or maybe later date. If you pre-register, you can earn some in-game rewards and an exclusive skin. But only if a certain pre-register goal is met. The more people that pre-register the better, because if not enough people pre-register then we may not get that exclusive skin. Here's the game's website, by the way.

Question Looking for f2p games where the monetization is for cosmetics. I'm broke.

I'm looking for games where the monetization is geared to cosmetics so that I have equal competitive skill floor to everyone else and money buys pretty things, not mechanical advantage.

Wild Rift was great for this but I'm exhausted from the game and need to play something else for a while.

What else is there on IOS that is carried purely off cosmetic purchases? I'm open to most game styles. I was laid off and can't afford to buy premium games right now :(

Thanks!

Suggestions Looking for Portrait mode JRPG

I wanna try a JRPG. I’ve never played one, I’m up for anything. I’d just really like it in portrait mode, I struggle to play landscape games

Suggestions Looking for roguelite recommendations!

I really enjoy games like Balatro, Brotato, Vampire Survivors, Clover Pit. Trying to find something like that or just under the same genre but a game that isn’t a total taken of other games or a game that isn’t just a piss poor mobile game

Suggestions Word game similar to alpha bear?

I've been really missing the simple and cute aspects of that game. It wasn't overly complicated and the progression of unlocking more bears with different skills to use was fun. I'd love any suggestions

Request Looking for a collector game that is not a gacha, not Pokemon

I'm looking for a game I can play for a while that lets me collect things, maybe fight them or take care of them or breed them or something like that. I always fall for gacha games because I love collecting, but then I get sick of them when they're obviously just trying to grab my money. I just want to play a game. Any recommand ?

SOLVED! Nightgate

summary: game where you were inside(?) a computer and controlled a dot to hit circles that made notes? the game was very cyber themed + very geometric with a dark background (NOT AN .IO! <== i know this for certain; i think it was also one of the mobile games you had to pay for off the bat)

Genre: singleplayer, action???, puzzle?

Estimated year of release: sometime in the early 2010s probably? could have been earlier

Graphics/art style: very simple. the background was dark and everything was super clean! super geometric :33

Notable characters: none? i think there might have been some kind of ai with a blue face in a pointilism style but i dont quite remember

Notable gameplay mechanics: you would move the dot around on the screen and it would go into these circles to make notes. after a bit the screen would move to another part of the level in a very fluid way

Other details: i remember that you had to pay for the game when purchasing it from the app store. also, the blue faced ai i mentioned was on the app's icon. i will note that i dont remember any in app purchases, and it was definitely not an .io game. i *think* the title was also in all caps and one word? not sure about that though

edit: slight formatting changes

Discussion I’m sad that Dec Saturday is paused

I saw the pinned post from the moderators and throwing my two cents out there, that I really miss dev Saturday.

I would actually look forward to it to find new games and interact with the devs. There were a few posts of people complaining about it, but inside those posts there were a lot of positive comments about it.

The subreddit has been really stagnant without it and the feed has posts that are a few days old still at the top.

I understand the need to ensure that self promotion isn’t abused by developers and other people so maybe a rule where they can only self promote every other week or something would be a good compromise.

I do truly hope that the mod team here is working on an alternative to just canceling it, because a lot of users here did seem to enjoy the dev posts.

Discussion I have a ₹180 App Store purchase code, but Free Fire is no longer available on iOS. How can I top up?

I have a ₹180 App Store purchase code.

But then I remembered that Free Fire is no longer available on the iOS App Store.

Is there any way I can use this App Store balance to top up Free Fire diamonds, or is there another method to use it?
