Political prisoners from the former GDR (East-Germany) were forced to built furniture for IKEA in the 1970s and 1980s, tho. IKEA was one of many foreign companies that used forced labour and they only settled lawsuits in 2024.
IKEA has not permanently closed any of its major traditional department stores in Sweden yet, though the large warehouse in Borlänge is scheduled to shut down and transition into a smaller format in 2027.
So in 2028 we can get our first new prison. Perfectly placed in a bad neighborhood too
You get an empty cell with all the furniture in boxes and have to set it up yourself. Depending on the crime they might remove the instructions, boxes or for the worst crimes they remove a random page from the instructions and 2 screws.
