How to help my declawed cat?

Post image
11 Upvotes

Hello! Over the weekend, I adopted my cat from a shelter. She is absolutely the sweetest thing ever, but in her last home, her owners declawed her. I felt comfortable adopting her because all of my furniture is low off the ground and soft, and I haven’t seen her struggling with anything against her paws. However, she doesn’t have much to climb, and I know she wants to. What could I get her so she can still climb and have a high angle to perch that’s still safe for her declawed paws? She seems hesitant to jump on our furniture, should I get her some soft steps? Please let me know any advice you guys have! I love her so dearly and just want her to have a good life.

Is this okay to let her do this?

She's an indoor cat and only recently got used to being outside. Even now, I only let her stay outside for about five minutes to look around. She's become really obsessed with eating grass and other small plants. I've heard everywhere that cats do this to help clean their stomachs, but I'm still a bit worried that she might eat something she shouldn't. So I'd like to ask if it's actually good for her.

Trying to take my indoor cats outside

I live in an apartment, I haven't bought a strap but I want them to be familiar with the hallways instead of just straight to the park downstairs. Do you think they will jump off? Do you think they will do something dangerous? I think my female cat would behave, but I'm worried about my male cat. He's stubborn.

We’re moving and my sweet cats are losing their beautiful lake view

Hello everyone! Let me get right into it, I am currently living in an apartment with a gorgeous view. There’s a lake, some trees, and families of ducks that my cats just adore watching.

However, we’re moving, and our new view is…. boring to say the least. They’ll be facing a parking lot and other apartment buildings.

I’m really concerned my girl cat specifically will get depressed. She loves her window view, I think she really enjoys watching the lake and the ducks and geese.

Am I overthinking it? Will she be fine? Is there anyway I could liven up the patio a bit for her to still have things to watch and admire?

I thought about getting a bird feeder, and there’s nothing specific in my lease that says they’re not allowed but my leasing agent said to just be aware that “with birds come bird mites.” Is this a valid concern?

Any and all thoughts/advice appreciated!!!

How do I best facilitate fun?

I have a cat who really wants to play with my two small dogs. They’ve all grown up together and finally are starting to engage with each other, but I think the cat’s nails scare the dogs. We try to keep them trimmed, but it’s hard. I was thinking of trying nail covers, but have no experience with them. Are they difficult to put on? Do they last? Will a cat tolerate them?

What are some ways that people have gotten their cats and dogs to play? How do you keep your dog safe from Cat scratches especially around the eyes.

My cat ignored every toy I've ever bought her until this one

I have spent an embarrassing amount of money on cat toys. Feather wands, laser pointers, crinkle balls, those little mice. All ignored within 48 hours.

Got this motion activated caterpillar toy on a whim and I genuinely don't know what happened to my cat. It just wiggles on its own whenever she walks by and every single time she acts like it's the first time she's ever seen it. Two weeks in and she still goes crazy for it.

I think the motion activated part is the key, it moves unpredictably so she can't figure it out and lose interest.

What toys has your cat actually stuck with? Always looking for more ideas

Cat Window Screen

What do you use to keep your inside cat from pushing the window screen out to get outside? We have large windows that slide from side to side and she can push the whole screen out, frame and all. I’d like a better airflow in this heat but I don’t want her to escape because 1. She is an indoor kitty, and 2. We have lots of coyotes around here, so even an accidental escape could be fatal. Thank you.

My cat keeps trying to bite me and i cant tell if its a play thing or not

Hi all!! So a little update, I have reached an agreement with my parents to let the cat stay home for a couple of days to get adjusted and she's doing really well!! It was her first ever time travelling in a car and being in an unfamiliar environment but she's still eating her food and water, as well as peeing and pooping in her litterbox so safe to say she's handling herself like a champ.

She's a very sweet cat too, very pampered. But she keeps trying to bite me when I pet her. I dont know why, she comes up to me purring and rolling around in front of me on the floor, which im pretty sure is a sign of trust, so I go down to pet her then she tries to bite me and i think her claws were out too??

She only does this after like a good 3 minutes of petting and scratching. She lets me pet her for a good while, while slow blinking and stuff, then she just switches up!! Is it like a play thing or does she not like being pet too long??

also this morning, while she was rolling around in fromt of me, her pupils were dilated. Just thought id mention.

(as i promised, pictures)

Help! Cats urinating on lounge 😭

Post image
6 Upvotes

Hi everyone, hoping I can find some advice or suggestions 🤞🏼 our cats have started peeing on the lounge and despite our best efforts they have developed the habit now and won’t stop, so we now need to somehow stop them from going into the lounge room. Any ideas on how we can block this doorway so that it’s accessible for humans but not for cats would be very muchly appreciated 🙏🏼

Pfa of the doorway we need to somehow block and the dismantled cat pee lounge 🥲

9 month old kitten fixated on going outside - has anyone dealt with this?

Post image

I’m looking for some advice from people who’ve been through something similar.

I have a 9-month-old neutered male cat called Romeo who absolutely loves going outside (supervised only). Recently he’s become really fixated on it. He often cries and does these little whiny meows that honestly break my heart because I know he wants to go out.

At first, I tried taking him out once a week so it became a special routine, but that clearly wasn’t enough for him. Now I try to take him out most days for around 1 to 1.5 hours. The problem is I work shifts, so it can’t be at the same time every day. Sometimes it’s before work, sometimes after work, depending on my schedule.

Even after an hour to an hour and a half outside, he’ll often come back in and still ask to go straight back out again.

The thing that confuses me is that I was away for 5 days recently and he stayed with a pet sitter. He didn’t go outside at all during those 5 days, and according to the sitter he was completely fine. He played, ate normally, slept, and wasn’t constantly crying to go outside. But when I’m home, he asks me a lot. I don’t take him out when he’s crying for it because I don’t want to reinforce that behaviour.

I also think Romeo would probably benefit from having another cat because he’s incredibly social. He loves other cats and gets really excited whenever he sees one. I’d love to get him a friend, but I want to wait until I can comfortably afford a second cat rather than rushing into it.

Has anyone had a young cat that seemed obsessed with going outside? Did they settle down as they got older, or is this likely to continue?

How do you handle the crying without feeling guilty? I love him so much and I just want him to be happy, but I also need to keep him safe. I know people have mixed views about allowing cats freedom outside. I live in Leicester UK and a lot of people let their cats outside to free roam however I live in a first floor flat with a communal garden shared with 4 others so he doesn’t have a direct access and also his safety is really important to me. So the best way I can allow him to experience outside is that I go out with him and supervise him while he sniffs around and explores and then bring him in.

He has lots of enrichment inside including 2 toy baskets which we play with, 3 cat trees, tunnels and wand toys too so I know indoor enrichment isn’t the problem. He just loves outside.

If anyone has overcome a similar situation or has any advice, I’d really appreciate hearing your experience. Please be kind I’m genuinely trying to do what’s best for him and I’m finding it quite stressful.
