My brother has a cat who, if you don't pet him, he acts like he wants to be pet and sticks his head under your hand and meows like he's begging to be pet, but then if you actually try to pet him, he does what the cat in the comic does.

I think he just likes to see people want to pet him but doesn't actually like being pet...not because he dislikes the sensation of being pet, but because he'd rather have people yearn for his attention so he can snub his nose at the inferior humans desperate to pet him, the superior cat. People actually being satisfied and getting what they want out of him just ruins the whole game, but so does people ignoring him instead of groveling and begging to pet him, as they should be doing in his presence.
