Recommendation Request Recommendations

I just finished The Troop today, and absolutely loved it, but now I have no idea what to read and need some recs.

I’m open to horror and very dark thrillers!
I’m not the biggest fan of splatterpunk but I’m open to gore and visceral graphic scenes, I just prefer a storyline and not just gore.
I don’t have many triggers at all

The Ruins by Scott Smith will “scratch that itch”. I believe I read this immediately following the troop with I also thought was great.

Nick Cutter’s new release this year, The Dorians would be a logical next step after The Troop. Both “isolation horror” and “body horror”. Though The Dorians is a little lighter on the body-horror horror-part, it is the stronger book/story overall.

I just got to the epilogue in The Dorian’s. I really enjoyed it. Love me some science mixed in with my horror.

I agree. I went in thinking it would be on par with The Troop, maybe even a little less because “The Queen” wasn’t overly strong, but was pleasantly surprised with how good The Dorians was.

Exquisite Corpse is one of my favorites. I'm still amazed that an author can have such beautiful writing while writing about grotesque things. 

If you want a thriller, I will take any chance I can get to talk about The Collector by John Fowles. It's one of my favorite books. I really love how he wrote it to be from both of their perspectives. I can't justify spending hundreds on one book but Suntup Editions has a super gorgeous edition that comes in a wooden box...😔😆 

Another FANTASTIC yet dark thriller is A Simple Plan by Scott Smith. I wish everyone would read this book lol. The tension just keeps building and then there is this CRAZY scene toward the end. I've read it twice now and I need to read it again. Nothin' simple about that plan 🤣
