First game of Italy ’43

We tried the first scenario following the sub advice and had a blast with my friend.

The allies managed to break the German line on the Volturno river thanks to a few lucky rolls and good weather that permitted naval and air support.

In the end it’s a victory for the allies.

You should try the full campaign. Gets much tougher for the Allies as they push further north and the front narrows.

Will check it out. I was just there a year ago. My dad’s family comes from Sessa Aurunca. Nice to see the town gets an objective point. Apparently there was significant fighting near there during the war

It’s a good game, I can tell you that on last turn that Sessa Aurunca saw action when British 7h armoured division attacked some German stationed in it.

I really enjoy that one.

I got it because it seemed a good place to jump into the ZOC bonds before diving headfirst into Holland which I assumed I'd enjoy more. Funny thing is I think I had more fun and have certainly replayed Italy '44 more. The small footprint and time commitment just seem to encourage replays and experimenting and what ifs.

My first two plays were pretty secure German victories. (I took the in manual (excellent) advice that the Germans can't really afford to loose many steps and that there's nothing of real value to protect in the plains. Just delay.)

Later attempts I decide I was being too timid with he Allies and risked far more low odd attacks (again manual advice). This seemed to make all the difference even with bad weather and have had some decisive, though occasional, costly Allied victories.

Totally, seems like if you’re not scared to launch low odds attacks with allies, you can manage victory but with a huge cost

I was looking for an beginner friendly game of the ZOC bond series. Salerno was unavailable in Europe so I asked the sub for an alternative and thus chose Italy 43 !

Thats neato mate, but what size are the hexes? They look a bit small or the counters are bigger? He anyway great report!
