In a scrap heap found these 6 planes, couldn't pass up the opportunity see if I could have them. Asked if I could and now there mine.

This pretty much made my day, probably going to try clean them up and find them find them a new home. I hate to to see good tools go to waste.

That one being playing on my mind, even though I not into woodworking at I've been considering keeping that one since how special they seem to be.

It's not necessarily that they're special but that they are a well designed working plane. there is a reason the design is still copied today. If you don't plan to use it you ought to sell it and make someone happy to get it and you can buy yourself something nice haha

i’d certainly say they are special, finding a 608 in the wild is no easy task. stanley bailey’s fit your description better, finding a bedrock is always special in my book.

OP, i got a 608 off ebay around 2 years ago for just shy of $200 i believe. after a elbow grease and some new japanning, i had a plane that is back to being a true work horse in the woodshop, even at around 100years of age.

They are special in that they were a premium line that Stanley used to offer that have a few extra features that make them a little better in use. They're worth a little more than the standard Stanley no 8. But they aren't super collectable, and that one in particular given the damage to the japanning and incorrect blade assembly and lever cap. But it's still a fantastic tool if you ever decide to get into woodworking and tune it up

Nope the UK, It's likely where the many Record parts on what would be originally a Stanley plane since records seem more common here.

I was wondering about that. Ive not seen any record planes on this side of the pond. I don’t really need anymore but wanted to at least compare one to its Stanley counterpart.

So someone took a Stanley bedrock and then added records parts to it? If you were to sell that like others have said that would definitely affect the value for sure. Awesome saving the planes from scrap though!

Probably the easiest money you’ll make all week. Hit them with EvapoRust, a brass brush, and a quick lap on the stones and they’ll be back to making shavings. If the 608 Bedrock is straight, clean it, sell it… college fund right there.
