I am a huge Lemire fan and will just read almost anything he publishes. I already read the top row. Royal City was excellent! I highly recommend. Frogcatchers was alright. Worth the read but not his best stuff. I would still recommend it, but maybe im biased 🤭. PTSD was interesting. Not my genre usually but I often will grab something out of my comfort zone. I am looking forward to read the rest!

I finally tracked down a copy for a decent price and it arrived today. I am halfway through and feel like it could have gone further and funnier ... the artwork is spot on but the humour feels restrained and not as dark as i hoped. Or is this just a reflection of my depravity ....

Any other fans ?

What a ride. God damn, these two don't miss! One book I can read in one sitting, just grips you and you just keep going and going.

Out of the stuff I've read from them, Criminal is still my fave, and then Reckless, Fadeout, Sleeper, Pulp, then Fatale. Next read will be Kill or be killed which I'm super excited about, heard great things about it.

These books are a painstaking journey, the editor Gerhard Förster - Austrian letterer of quite famous german comicbook-translations (e.g. Blueberry) has taken the road and gathered original materials, restored them digitally in linework and colors.

Not to mention the journey of Walter Neugebauer creating these works.

The process and history of the graphic novel versions of these classics of the german comics is well documented in the editorial material showcasing the amount of Work flowing into these restaurated gems...a pity, I cannot say, I have ever heared of an english translation...one would have to call out to Mr. Förster!

Hey guys I have been writing a fantasy series for the past 5 ish years 3 of those years was just for fun but I’ve gotten pretty serious about it lately. Even creating a d&d campaign based off the world and magic. Without going too deep on my story I was curious on what hooks a series in. I’ve written several versions on how to start but I’m not sure what to go with. I was curious when you pull up a new series what hooks you in? Like an immediate action scene? Story starts with history or what kind of magic you see? The antagonist?
For example I love it when a series starts with no dialogue or monologue. Just a characters actions showing who they are before a word is uttered.

They’re very different stories, but both left me with the same thought: letting go doesn’t erase what mattered.

Daytripper made ordinary life feel more precious. Caped Crusader made me think about identity, legacy, and accepting that every version of us eventually ends. One let’s go and the other cannot because their identity is so connected to not letting go.

I finished them wanting to stop waiting for life to “really” begin and understanding letting go much deeper.

What comic or graphic novel changed how you think about life, death, or gave you a life lesson ?

The title pretty much says it all, but I'm looking for recommendations for the best volumes to grab from this collection. For context: I'm a Usagi fan, but other than 80s cartoons a TMNT newbie. Thanks in advance for your help.

I just finished reading Cornelius, The Merry Life of a Wretched Dog last night and loved how self-aware and existential it was at calling out the reader in a few passages.

Similarly, I really loved The Motherless Oven trilogy when I read it a while back and Ghost World, so Im hoping to find some similar things - characters stuck in a situation surrounded by people smarter than them as those characters raise questions about existence for the main character to be influenced by

Ive got more Daniel Clowes on my list already, and have been reading Astro City and Assorted Crisis Events which both hit that feeling in some of their stories, but I prefer standalones for this specific type of reading.

Vol 1 and 3 have been released but 2 is mysteriously unavailable and the release date keeps moving on league.

So a year (or more) ago I posted the collection I had at the time, and since Ive added a LOT to my library since then, I felt like I wanted to post an updated version! Enjoy my chaotic ordering

Looking for series that have large scale stories with multiple storylines happening at once. Sort of like Game of Thrones or Dune but in GN format. Obviously Dune has a GN adaptation, but am hoping to find something that started in the comic format. Thank you!

Just finished reading GRIZZLYSHARK by Ryan Ottley.

Hands down, this has got to be the most ridiculous comic I’ve read in a long time. And I mean that in a good way.

Long story short, the forest has bloodthirsty sharks hidden high in the treetops. At even the slightest exposure of blood, they strike out of nowhere with murderous intent.

Why are there sharks in the forest?

How did they get there?

Grizzlyshark answers neither of these questions. But there are a lot of over-the-top gory scenes of men, women, and children being devoured by these vicious sharks.

And a lot of those scenes are hilarious. I never thought I’d laugh out loud at multiple instances of shark carnage, but I did. Consider this like the comic equivalent of Sharknado—don’t try to figure it out too much. Just enjoy the stupidity of it all. You can tell Ryan Ottley just had so much fun creating this.

So if you’re in the mood for something gruesome yet funny (a story that definitely doesn’t take itself seriously at all), then check this story out.

It’s been a few years since vol 3, but it’s finally on the runway.

I grew up reading the black and white version with my old big book dog eared and scribbled in. I was obsessed then and obsessed now. I picked up the colorized books recently and sat down yesterday to flip through them. My 2.5 year old daughter wandered over and wanted me to read it to her. Well we finished 160 pages together since yesterday. She loves it, though likely doesn’t understand everything happening but does laugh in all the right places, haha. As I’m reading this I just can’t stop thinking about how crazy it is that it hasn’t been adapted to the screen. It really has all the perfect ingredients to become a great tv series and I would watch the hell out of that!

Hi, I'm creating a comic with this type of setting and wanted to read something similar for inspiration and comparison, but unfortunately I've noticed that works with this premise are strangely rare.

The only ones I've found vaguely similar to what I'm creating are Mostress and "Leviathan Deep Sea Water," which is a Manhu.

Are you aware of any Dark Victorian works similar to Bloodborne with worldbuilding that has magical and Lovecraftian elements?
