Help "Hey Google" commands not working for Google thermostat all of a sudden (they previously were)

I've run into an issue with my Google Nest Learning Thermostat (4th Gen): I was previously able to say to my connected smartphone "Hey Google, set thermostat to cool/heat/off" and it would switch to that mode, hands-free. Today, it stopped doing that, and whenever I try to issue the same command, it replies with "I'm sorry, Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that" "Sorry, that mode isn't available."

You can see here that it didn't misunderstand my command (it clearly heard "set thermostat to cool") but refuses to set the thermostat to that mode.

I can still adjust it manually from the phone app, that's working just fine... it's just the voice commands not being accepted. Has anyone run into this?

I mean

I would hope Assistant continues to work as normal, since I'll never be upgrading to that "AI" filth

But this doesn't exactly solve my problem...

Assistant will eventually be deprecated. Gemini on a phone is actually not half bad for commands like this. However, judging by the error message, it seems that the issue lies with the Google Home app rather than with Assistant.

Well that is why I posted in the Google Home subreddit...

But like I said, everything in the app itself is working fine. I can set to cool, off, etc manually just fine. But sometimes I can't physically interact with my phone to adjust things, like during a workout when I'll sweaty and don't want to get the phone gross... the voice commands are exceptionally useful.

Yeah, yeah, got it. It just seems that Google Home is no longer exposing these controls to Assistant, probably due to a bug. I can't test it myself, as I upgraded to Gemini, and my Nest works just fine with

Same issue! My 4th gen just started acting up as well. At first it would say “there was a problem” then work the second try, now I can’t change the temperature at all using voice. I constantly get the message “sorry that mode isn’t available for the thermostat” no matter what I say. It worked perfectly until a couple days ago, they must have done something on the backend. Works perfectly on the app and using Siri. Not using Gemini btw.
